Just a little Thank You....
Thank you to everyone who responded to my "sick and tired" post. They continue to be insprirational to me. So many good comeback lines too. I am back to feeling empowered by my decision not to do chemo. I am dealing with having to put my parents aside, so to speak, until I am ready to deal with them. All of my energies…

CEA Question
Hi All, I notice here lately that several of you said you CEA was "normal" while you had active tumors. What do you mean by normal? I have read less then 5 is normal, but I have also read 1 or below is the real normal. What were your CEA results that you thought were "normal"? Just curious. Lisa P.

Out for the Count!
Just back in the saddle after a 2 day fight with the intestinal virus...that ran rampant through the kids school and hit me hard over the weekend! Our cancer scars make these things even harder to deal with! Spent the whole night being reminded of our old treatment regimens, and it gave me renewed respect for all of you in…

What is...
What is a PET scan and CEA? They are not terms that we use in British Columbia. Also, if you have a reaction to your first round of chemo, how long would it take after the treatment? My father's treatment starts Mon., and I will stay til Thurs. so am trying to gear up. In conversation it is all very matter of fact, but I…

Sick and tired.....
Hi All~ Going through a tough time of it mentally and need to vent..... As you all may remember I recently decided to stop chemo treatments. The side effects were so violent that I thought I had better listen to my body as I felt it was telling me something wasn't right. I wanted to look into more natural or homepathic…

Tsunami Poem !
Tsunami Poem Mommy! A tsunami! You heard your young child say. But when you reached to take his hand, your son was washed away. Mommy! A tsunami! You heard his sister scream. You tried to run, but couldn't move. You woke. It was a dream. For us, a figment of our minds while blanketed in bed. But for those who were swept to…

Very bad nesws from chemo doctor
Hi all, Hope everyone is doing well. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, they did. I went to my chemo doctor today and he examined my bottom where it hadn't healed. He was very concerned. Says it looks like a tumor in there. He wants to make sure my surgeon does the biopsy on Wednesday. He was going to…

Hi all, I'm still here. All I seem to do now is cry. I went to church this morning, hoping it would help and I just sit there and cried. I have appts Mon, Tues and Wed this week, but if I don't feel better tomorrow, I may just check myself back in the hospital and get my bipolar meds straighted out and forget the other…

WENT TO THE DOCTOR TODAY
I WAS DX IN JUNE OF 2004, HAD SURGERY TO REMOVE STAGE 2 RECTAL CANCER FOLLOWED BY 7 WEEKS OF 24/7 CHEMO(5FU) AND DAILY RADIATION THERAPY. THE SURGERY WAS ABLE TO BE DONE RECTALLY BECAUSE THE TUMOR WAS SO LOW. BUT EVER SINCE THE SURGERY, SCAR TISSUE IS FORMING THERE AND NARROWING THE COLON, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO HAVE A BM.…

My Story of Hope
Hello to all. I have been reading this board for over a year but this is my first post. My father died of bladder cancer at age 53. I have lived in fear of the disease ever since. I have visited my internist twice a year for a long time. When he noticed that I had turned age 50, my doc recommended a colonoscopy. I hemmed…

My husband has been doing well since his treatment for Rectal Cancer Stage 111 with 11 out of 18 nodes involved, dx July 2003. getting ready for my father's chemo
Hello all, It has been fantastic reading all the posts this last week or so. What an amazing group you are. We ( my father and I ) have finally figured out the plan for his chemo. It was a surprise to see how stressful it is just figureing what to do. So the plan is that he will start chemo in his home town and I will go…

A Plan, of sorts
I have decided to start the chemo recommended by my oncologist-IFL (irinotecan, 5FU and leucovorin) with Avastin. From my reading, this seems like a pretty typical course of action. He's reluctant to go the oxaliplatin route-he's afraid i won't tolerate that too well. I called the oncologist office to arrange an appt to…

Wearing An Impractical Skirt!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the messages. Just what I needed. I cried, I laughed, I cried. It was very good. I'm doing well. The good part about cancer and metastases is that you quickly master disappointing news. What's the cycle? I skip denial because it's a big waste of time. I love anger, fabulous stage,…
