Surgery, now Chemo
Hi to all. I have just found the courage to look for this site. Had a "baseline" colonoscopy in November at age 53, no symptoms, good overall health. 1 small polyp, positive biopsy, colectomy in December (surgery went very well, good recovery!), with a 1 cm polyp and 1 positive node, hence on to chemo. Chemo starts Friday,…

Oncologist says latter may not be accessible for biopsy, but suggest a non-evasive procedure involving 3 1"…

Symtoms after surgery
Last February my mother was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. She had a complete hysterectomy and a portion of her colon was removed. She decided after trying one round of Xeloda that the side effects were more than she wanted to deal with and refused any additional treatment. Since then all of her CT scans have shown…

CT Scan Works As Well As Colonoscopy
Science News For anyone seeking to avoid the unpleasantness and discomfort of a colonoscopy, here's good news: A computed tomography (CT) scan that provides a "virtual colonoscopy" of the large intestine is just as adept at detecting signs of cancer as is a viewing device moved through the colon, a new study finds. A team…

Why Are Some People SOOOO Stubborn?
As most of you know, Bert was hospitalized about six weeks ago because of severe diarrhea as well as a colon infection and partial small intestine blockage. Well folks, we almost had a repeat performance and we are not out of the woods yet. It basically starts with his routine onc visits. On those few occassions where I…

SYMPTOMS
I am a three-year ovarian cancer survivor. I'm just curious what are the symptoms of colon cancer, as my doctor suggests a colonoscopy next year (since I have a history and since I will be 49 years old). Anyway, whatever you can tell me will be helpful. Thank you!

Seeking Balance in the Universe
There'll be no creaking of Earth's poles to be heard this night as our planet begins its tilt towards another season. Nor will there be weeping and wailing as awestruck primitive man must have done, as he begged the omnipotent gods to be merciful and return the sun to its rightful place in the heavens. Yet even as we claim…

Help! I am shell shocked after 1st round
I flew to cancer center and got my first round of Oxaliplatin/Xeloda. They give what they call fractionated chemo: devided in three days, I thought it was a single dose devided in 3, but now I think they give you a tripple dose in three days so you only come every three weeks, because you have to fly there. I received 50…

Ahoy, all you semi-colons! I just wanted to share some good news with you; I have received orders to be the Executive Officer (that's "second in command" for you non-military types out there)in a ship. To me this really means several things; 1. I am doing well health-wise (but I will not become complacent nor will I take…

Last Chemo Treatment....For Now!
Well folks, Bert finished his last chemo treatment today...but at another reduced dose. Diarrhea has plagued him nonstop and all the meds that have been prescribed just don't seem to help. He is dead tired, doesn't look well, and was told by the onc today that quite frankly, his body just can't take any more chemo. For the…

How to deal with metastatic cancer before tumors appear
This is related to my previous question about the GCC-B1 test, but I don't think anyone knows much about that test. So I'm trying to trick you all into answering by rephrasing. :) Is there anything that can be done for metastatic cancer before tumors actually appear? And if not, would any of you want to have a test done…

Question about GCC-B1 test
Hi everyone! Have any of you had any experience with the GCC-B1 test? It is supposed to be much more accurate than the CEA test in determining whether there is a recurrence or whether there is metastasis before any tumors appear. My onc is willing to do it, however, he said the company that offers the test would bill me…

New here with questions
My dad (54 years old) was diagnosed last year at this time with stage III colorectal cancer. He had surgery to remove the mass and 12 lymph nodes, 3 of which had cancer in them. He went through chemo/radiation after the surgery, just as a precaution the doctors said. They felt confident they had removed all the cancer with…
