Tamoxifen - starting to get a little fearful of taking this
I had 6 rounds of chemo and am 1/3 of the way through radiation. Next on tap, my doctor wants to put me on Tamoxifen for 5 years. I have avoided doing much research on this until now because I could only handle one thing at a time, if you know what I mean. I've spent the past two days reading online about this and I keep…

Surgery all done!
Thanks SOOOOOOOO much everyone for your thoughts and prayers. They obviously worked since when I woke up in my room I was told there was no cancer in my lymph nodes! The surgeon also said there was a 90% chance that I would not need chemo:) I will know more later this week on the outcome of that. It is like a miracle what…

Short notice but can anyone come......
Some of you might remember that my fear of closed spaces made me ask for help for my last bone scan. I got through it with the help of all of you. I was scheduled for a nuclear medicine scan of my parathyroid and had to walk out because I couldn't do it. I am embarrassed about it, but what can I do? So tomorrow at 1 pm I…

One Year Ago Today
One year ago today I was in BC Women's Hospital breast health centre receiving my very first mammogram and detailed ultrasound of my left breast. I remember the appointment vividly. I had a breast lump, that is why I was there. The technician proceeded with the mammogram and then asked me to sit and wait in the same room…

A Family United...when will this nightmare end?
As much as cancer can and does destroy, in its wake we as a family unite and become that much stronger. Just as my cancer treatment ended one month ago, cancer continues to challenge our entire family. I haven't mentioned this previously, but with all that has transpired in the last two months, and in the last week in…

depression
Has anyone else felt like just not doing this? I have only had one chemo treatment- three weeks ago now because my white cell count is low. I just wanted to get on with it and count down the treatments, but now I feel like the agony is being prolonged. I feel so bad about everything. Not just myself, but for all the people…

joint pains after chemo
does anyone know if joint pain is a long-term side effect of the chemo drugs adriamycin and endoxin? My chemo finished in May followed by 33 sessions of radiation. I have stiffness in my joints which was never there before, and swelling and pain in my ankles, knees and thumbs?! I am 54 so I wonder if it's just old age…

Is that all you can ever talk about?
Dear Sisters: Came back from a relaxing water aerobics class. Told husband I met a lady who conquered breast cancer in 1996. Her sister was in a clinical trial for Herceptin in 2001, which interested me since my cancer is Herceptin Pos. and all of us now benefit from these trials. Husband snapped at me - "I am tired of you…

Call from MDA-- a miracle!
OK, as many recall, I was told that my current physician probably should not have switched me to faslodex based on markers. Guess what? The MDA physician just called and said that I am now officially in remission! My scans show no activity and the ribs are now sclerosing (healing). I can't believe this. She said that the…

I'll have to do the ****** chemo again.
There are three areas of concern in my body right now. First, the local recurrence...a lump at the mastectomy scar. (It became 3 lumps between biopsy and surgery.) Had surgery Tuesday to get them out, and no nice neat steri strips this time. I have seven big black ugly stitches. Still waiting for full pathology on that,…

It's All Too Much to Bare...How much more...
Hi there. How much more trauma and tragedy can our family bare? Cancer is a relentless adversary. I had my last RAD on Aug. 15th. Back in July, my husband's uncle (on his mother's side) was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer of Unknown Primary - no cure. He's undergoing chemo as a palliative measure to slow the cancer down. His…

"no pain history" longish rant
I've been having moderate to debilitating pain in my upper left arm. (It's much worse than my hip pain and totally cancels out any neck pain.) My arm has been hurting for five weeks now without let up. Two week ago I called oncology and was told to "give it a couple of weeks"... I don't know why I did wait except that…

outrageous comments
Ok, let me preface this with the fact that I truly don't think she was trying to be cruel. A co-worker, that has actually helped me out a lot during and after treatment, told me the other day that I should hurry up and get my reconstruction done so I don't look like a boy anymore. I had talked to her some about possibly…

Finished rads...for the second time...now plan B....

Finally getting a wheelchair
It has taken 11 weeks for the wheelchair company to get approval! Amazing, this was not UHC, but the local mobility company. Found out yesterday, they are a third party vendor contracted to a national company. When they came to my home to access me, I was told it would take 4 - 6 weeks. It took 3 weeks just to get him…

Newly diagnosed but been there before with my 1st husband!
It is so uplifting to find a place to talk to people who know what you are going through. I was diagnosed after a routine mammogram the end of July. I had surgery (double mastectomy) on August 11. My invasive ductal carcinoma was Stage 2 (2 nosed involved) Grade 1, ER/PR+. The initial diagnosis caught me completely…
