Biopsies for metastasis are useful since cancer cells undergo mutations. New article
very interesting. Cancer cells undergo mutations and develop resistance. That is why metastatic tumors could have variations from primary. Please watch explanation: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/741103 Ding L, Ellis MJ, Shunqiang L, et al. Genome remodelling in a basal-like breast cancer metastasis and xenograft.…

Some Good News
Hello Ladies. I met with my surgeon today to go over the pathology from the mastectomy surgery that I had on June 1st. The good news is that all margins are clear. So after a lumpectomy (Oct. 2010), chemo (Dec. 2010-Mar. 2011), re-excision surgery to clear margins (Apr. 2011) where residual cancer was found, then the…

Off topic..job interviews
I've been on medical leave for so long I no longer have FMLA protection at work. That puts me in a position where I will be on a 90 day "job search leave". This is an unpaid leave, but benefits continue (whew!)and I am still considered an active employee. Basically I have to interview for jobs within my company. So by my…

Anyone Have Experience with Xeloda?
Hello, Please don't let my UserName mislead you. It has nothing to do with anyone's cancer diagnosis; it's just my automatic response when anyone asks how "my husband and" I are doing. I received my 2nd diagnosis of Stage 2 colon cancer in March of this year (the first was in June, 2009). After having my 2nd resection, my…

How Donna got the bus?
A young man has been trying to avoid the .08 alcohol/driving issues, so last night when he went out with friends - and really tied one on - he tried something he had never done before. He took the bus home. "What a great feeling" he said. "I arrived home safe, warm and intact - which is really amazing since I have never…

A little happy news: scientists find molecule involved in breast metastasis
I think this is very promising research. Dr. Pollard and associates focused on sites where cancer had spread, and were able to detect a molecule that stimulates metastasis. If researchers can now find a way to block this molecule...well, you can see how great this could be for all of us! I know it may be a long way off,…

Mammo/PET scan ??
Got a Question. I am going to have a mammo in Oct., and then a PET Scan in NOV. Why have the mammo? If any cancer is present it will show on the PET right. This just seems like double testing, and more money I have to pay them. I'm thinking of skipping the mammo, and having the PET in Nov. What's your thoughts?

Natly, how did your tests go today? Did you find out anything yet?
