Double mastectomy after axillary node dissection?
Newbie here. I've had a lumpectomy with a positive sentinel node followed by an axillary node dissection. I'd like to skip radiation and am thinking about a double mastectomy. One of the reasons I'm avoiding radiation is because of the raised lymphedema risk. But I can't find anything about the lymphedema risk of having…

Anyone see "Menopause - the Musical"?
My cheeks hurt from laughing! What a great show - 4 very different women who meet at a sale at Bloomingdale's and fight over a black bra. Familiar music with parodied lyrics like 'Puff, my God,I'm Draggin'; 'Please Make Me Over'; 'Stayin' Awake' and so many more. See it if it comes your way. Sue

I just posted a response on another thread and I see my picture with the post changed to one of the ones I posted. New Here and Node Positive
Hi, Just wondered if anyone out there has had a similar experience. I was just diagnosed 7 weeks ago. Had 2cm tumor that was biopsied. Right after the biopsy a lymph node under my arm started to hurt all the time. I knew the cancer had spread but my surgeon and oncologist just said, "oh those darn biopsies" as if my node…

Mouth Rinse with Baking Soda and Salt
Really, the title should be "Miracle Mouth Cure! Just send $9.99, Operators Are Standing By to Take Your Call!" LOL! But, that would defeat the purpose of making a separate post...and the purpose is to make it easier when folks search for thrush prevention. Here's the recipe (pretend to be a Baldwin Sister when you make…

Good Thoughts for Chenheart on Monday 11.15
Chenheart is precious to these boards and has in one way or another been a source of encouragement to all of us. I'm sorry I can't remember the exact WHAT but she is having scans on Monday, 11.15. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) she is having scans to determine if her current treatment is working to fight the recurrence.…

1 month after chemo & i'm supposed to bounce right back.....
Ok here comes a nice big vent - so feel free to skip over this one if you don't want to listen to my whining. Up until now my husband has been so helpful through everything. Literally the week I had my last chemo everything changed. He's never home. He owns his own business, so he thinks that the only thing he has to do…

I am so disappointed
and tired of being lied to. 6:30 Monday is when surgery is scheduled to replace the tissue expander with an implant. At pre-op I learned that I'd be going home after 3 hours for surgery and 'up to 2 hours' for recovery. I called the nurse and asked if this was true whereupon she smugly informed me the only reason I…

A New Snag in My New "Normal" - SHINGLES!
I wound up in the ER twice last week because of severe upper back pain coming around to my chest wall. After EKG and CT, nothing was found and I was sent home on pain meds. One day later I broke out in a rash and went to my primary, and was told I had SHINGLES! I didn't realize how painful this can be but now I know. I'm…

so far!!! I had my lumpectomy on Thursday and was relieved to learn node tested negative. I understand it is 95% negative at this time but I am staying confident and positive that it will test negative 100%. Yesterday I had to go to BS office to learn how to keep temporary mammosite clean and DD came to visit with my…

Drains &*%$#
I am suppose to get my drain out next Tues. The Dr said it has to be 30 cc's or less for two consecutive days to take it out. I only have one more day to hit that mark. I don't think I'm going to make it! I am still around 200 per day!! This means I will have to keep this damn thing for another week.. &%$#@! Has anyone…

Tongue
Have "thrush" on and off. Onc. gave me anti fungal for it ... use it 4 times a day. This morning woke up to tongue "bleeding". Is this unusual? Will the "thrush" come back and go away until Chemo is over?

Picc or port?
I have recently had a picc put in my arm. However, when the nurse was changing the dressing and flushing it, she asked why I had a picc instead of a port. I only have 2 more chemo treatments but I will have 11 more treatments of one of the chemo drugs after that, ending at the end of July! Should I insist on having a port…

Need questions to ask Surgeon....7 months post op
I am so thankful for this website. It helped me through many sleepless nights. I am back ... 7 months after quadrectomy and radiation with my first follow-up appointment with my surgeon. I feel like I did not get a lot of information although the information I did get was good. Diagnosis was DCIS with clean margins. That…

Final implants after tissue expanders
Hi, I had a nipple sparing mastectomy in July 2010 and just had my tissue expanders exchanged for high profile silicone implants 2 days ago on November 9th. I had to get a skin graph for one of my nipples because the pathology report in July showed less than a 2mm margin. I havent been able to see that breast yet but the…

Survivor "Guilt"
Not sure what else to call it, so for the time being, there it is. I'm only 6.5 months post-surg (8.5 post-diagnosis), and I was lucky. I know that. Due to family history, I was sure I was BRCA+ and decided immediately I would have a bilateral mastectomy. Agonizing wait for test results, and I'm BRCA-. Total game changer.…

What vibes would you get from a wimpish hug (very slight hug) from your oncologist?
I made an appointment to clear the air between my hematology oncologist and me. I thought it ended well. Then I asked for a hug. That hug made me feel like a leper. It had very little body contact. It was wimpish and extremely weak. I did not believe it. She is not afraid to touch me when she examines me. WHAT ARE YOUR…
