Port question...
Good morning. How long after treatment must a port stay in place? I know it could stay forever, but, if you want to have it removed, how long do you have to wait once treatments are complete? THanks in advance.

CONFIRMED
It is confirmed that there is suspicious cells in the spinal cord fluid. Oncologist will see my wife after her MRI of the brain and would like to treat her outpatient, but Lesley does not seem that she is going to be able to do that in her current status. I hope that once they flush her bowels out and get some more fluids…

Am I missing out on something concerning radiation? The other day I went to the radiation doctor's office building, I met him. Then the following day went back and they gave me a ct scan, a lady marked a couple of spots on me with what looks like a black magic marker and then when the scan was done she asked me what time I…

I'm Done, I'm Done, I'm Done!!
I finished my Herceptin yesterday. Sooo happy to be off that drug. I have all the little nasty side effects...running nose, sinus stuffiness, numbness in arms and legs, dizzy (ended up in the ER), not sleeping. It didn't effect my heart though so I'm very grateful for that. I have my 6 months mammogram in Nov. The last one…

Anwyay - that last treatment really kicked my butt. I was down for the entire week-end to where it usually just starts to get me down Monday and last through Wed.…

The Affordable Care Act (Related to Health Insurance)
Today a friend sent me an e-mail regarding the The Affordable Care Act. I cut and pasted what I thought you would find informative and beneficial. The Affordable Care Act, signed into law earlier this year, makes breast cancer screening and coverage for treatment available and accessible by requiring health plans to cover…

after chemo - scans and scared
Hi - i got my appointment for my last chemo treatment for next thursday morning. While I'm very happy to be done with these treatments, I'm also feeling a little apprehensive, anxious, scared. After chemo I get my scans, which are, in essence, to see if I have cancer anywhere else, right? I had no cancer in my lymph nodes.…

Tips needed for a co-workers upcoming surgery!
I have a coworker who was diagnosed recently with BC and is scheduled for surgery on the 18th. The surgery she’s having is called “breast conserving” surgery. The way she described it to me is that they are removing the tumor on the affected side and doing the sentinel node biopsy (of course with possible axillary node…

Today I'm being squished, slammed, and zapped....
ROFL! Time for my annual 'scanfest'....Mammogram and MRI for my breast cancer, MRI (maybe CT...the insurance is balking on the MRI) for my rectal cancer, DEXA scan for my chemo-induced osteoporosis! But then I'll be 'right as rain'! Wish me luck! Hugs, Kathi

Supplements to strengthen immunity?
Did anyone take any natural supplements to boost immunity while getting chemo? My sister has something called "Immunity Take Care" made by New Chapter, but, onc did not recommend she take them?

SOUTH JERSEY Radiation facility
Hello! Can someone recommend a reputable radiation facility in South Jersey? I was told that a physicians experience and calibration is important when making a decision where to go. I am having surgery at a top cancer hospital in NYC but too far to travel for 4 weeks to have radiation.

Arimidex connected to uterine cancer?
I am a four year survivor of breast cancer. My markers have remained low, and all mammograms and tests have been normal. I've been on Arimidex for about 3 years. I began spotting quite frequently and I asked my gynecologist if I should be alarmed. I told him it seemed to be linked to whether or not I'd taken my Arimidex on…

Good news today...
I saw the onc today. His opinion is that the cancer is responding very well to the chemo. The obvious 4mm lymph node is now fairly hard to find. The redness (from the IBC) is more intense in color, but doesn't cover such a large surface area. And much of the swelling (from lymph fluids not circulating properly) is gone. It…

Wish Me Luck Tomorrow!
I'm getting my yearly mammogram tomorrow morning! And though I'm 9 years out and should be a an "old pro" by now, I must admit that I still get a little nervous when it comes time to get the girl (I only have one "original" side) smashed like a pancake! LOL. Those fears of "what if they find something" start creeping back…

If you are on zometa....
I printed out the info in the link below and printed it out for my dentist. He has agreed to put off any dental work that we can. I see the hygienist every 6 months religiously. Jaw necrosis is more common if you take zometa and have cancer and good oral hygiene is a must. Brush and floss frequently and use a mouthwash…
