I finished 6 weeks of radiation about 7 weeks ago (just before Thanksgiving); prior to that I went through a lumpectomy and 4 rounds of chemo. My treatment was complicated by the fact that I…

An Interesting Year
Once again I find myself looking back over the past few years only to realize I don't have to look back very far to see how interesting life can be. I made it through the Christmas season without too many problems, eating less and drinking more. Even managed to get a few cocktails down. I found some medication that tamed…

Questions about Echinacea
Has anyone taken Echinacea during chemo? The physicians assistant told me it's OK to take it and it does give me some energy but I would like to know how long to stay on it. I read somewhere if you take it on a daily basis for an extended period of time it will actually weaken your immune system. The physicians assistant…

Test results
I received the good news that my bone scan was normal! The blood tests however revealed some liver abnormalities, so I am scheduled for some repeat liver enzyme tests and a liver CAT scan in the next week or so. THe oncologist says that there is a possibility that the enzymes are elevated due to fatty changes. I have been…

I had a double mastectomy/immediate reconstruction after bc diagnosis on Oct 22nd. I am having the expanders taken out in Jan and my permanent implants put in. As The Year Draws To An End
2001 has been a life changing year for me. On New Years Eve I will complete my radiation treatments and start the new year free from cancer. Since being diagnosed in June I feel that I have lived a double life. One as a patient and another as the person. I'm hoping that at the end of this year I will emerge a new person,…

Taxotere
Had first of 6 cycles of Taxotere yesterday. SO far no problems except for bad taste of everything since & usual hot flushes from steroid meds. Seems that my markers are moving very fast in the wrong direction - over 60 points in only 2 weeks so something had to be done. Let's hope this chemo works. Love to all. Pam

Thank you ladies! And a clarification...
First, thank you all of you who responded to my post. I am grateful to find women who continue to live despite their diagnosis. It is my intention to live and fight relentlessly. For my son, for my husband and for me. I went back and re-read my post. There was a typo, so something was not clear regarding my node status…

Did anyone hear the news from the San Antonio convention - new drugs (aromatase inhibitors) show 17% improvement over tamoxifen for reducing the incidence of recurrence of breast cancer. The new drugs suppress the estrogen without the side effects of tamoxifen - i.e., hot flashes, possibility of uterine cancer, and blood…

I was not ER, PR or Her2. I had 4 cycles AC and 4 cycles Taxol. I finished my treatment this past January 2001. Now, barely 10 months…
