Vaginal sores
Good evening everyone. I visit this site often. I have been mostly lurking since 9/27/10 when I was first diagnosed. I had the standard nigro protocol treatment 11/1-12/8/10. I had severe burns and had a nurse come to dress the wounds everday until Jan. It was a long hard road and I have sympathy for each and everyone of…

Weaning off meds
As of this week, I am now free of all meds prescribed to me after diagnosis. Lexapro and Ambien being my final two to drop. Yoga, Pilates, power-walking, massage and meditation have kept me stress free and centered, which has allowed for the discontinuance of the medications. I'm so excited! I even cried easily for the…

Rad onc---
Rad onc appt today. Not sure what to expect, but here I go! Daughter spent the weekend with me and we laughed and hugged as if she were still a teenager and we were having a Mother/Daughter day like in the "good old days" as she refers to them. Hmmm mm..... She drove the five hours to tell me face to face that even though…

thank you
Just want to say thank you for everyone who joined this site in support of everyone who has or will endure this illness. In my own personal experience, this web site has been more supportive and informative than all of my oncology support groups. Keep talking... people are listening. I was embarrased and ashamed, but I…

Low WBC
Going into my 5th week of treatment of 5-FU and second round of chemo. My last blood test showed a low WBC and my doctor wants to give me an injection (?) to boost the count. Has anyone had the injection, and what are the side effects if any? Thanks for all your information.

what caused this?
I have read some other opinions. Has anyone taken prescription meds. for GERD? Not to use brand names but you know the acid reducers? And how many of us suffer from IBS prior to this diagnosis? Just wonder is that may be a factor.

Neutrophils dropped and Lymphocytes increased
Am worried as my neutrophil count went to 36 (normal is 41-81) and my lymphocytes count up to 47 (normal is 13-46) and basophils up to 3 (normal 1-2). I am 7 months NED. I feel more tired but don't have a cold or anything. Did you experience your counts up and down still?

Post Treatment Regimen
I am working with a clinic combining Western and Eastern Medicines. They have recommended to me a regimen for the next two years to support the non-recurrance strategy. Basically support my body to make sure that the cancer has little chance of returning. I have not seen any posts about this type of protocol and wanted to…

Perineum
Hello, I just had a biopsy on my perineum, the space between the vaginal opening and the anal opening. My perenium was taut after tx and whenever I had a dre or used the dialater a small opening would form and a little blood, this happened about 5 times, but would close and heal. Now about 4 months ago I had a pabst and…

Not Having Treatment (80 years old)
My Mom's only symptom is small amounts of blood in her bowel movements. Not even every time. No pain, etc. (This had been going on for 2 years before diagnosis.) Given her age and other health issues and the fact that the treatment options are both very difficult for someone her age, wondering about opinions on not having…

1.6 chance in 10,000 - WHY??
I have always been a questioning type of girl. So, I just have to ask 'WHY'. Why me? Why us? 5000 new cases per year for 308,000,000 people in the USA = 1.6 in 10,000 chance. I was diagnosed in May 2011 at 49 years old and have completed treatment. I was completely flabbergasted when I received my diagnosis!! Like so many…

new here
Well hi ya'll. I am new here-been reading some of your posts and it is good and bad to know there are others out there like me. I was diagnosed in mid-July after a routine colonoscopy-I had blown off symptoms as hemorrhoid related (maybe there should be a t-shirt "But I thought it was just hemorrhoids...."). I am T2n0m0,…

urgency after 2 years
Hi: It's been almost two years since radiation and chemo and I still occasionally get caught off guard, where I have to find a bathroom right away or go on the street. I'm still not used to this; I feel humiliated. Does anyone else have this challenge?

80 Year Old Mom
Hi all - I stumbled across this blog while looking for information about my Mom's suggested treatment plan. She was diagnosed with Anal Cancer. It's a 7-8cm lesion with one questional lymphnode in the groin. She is 80 years old and in "relatively" good health. Although, recently, she had a pacemaker implanted and has high…

CEA levels
I am 11 years out from having anal cancer and every 6 months when I get my tumor markers checked my CEA has always been up and down, but above the normal.... it goes from 3.3 to 4.3 to 5.2 and down to 4.2, now it's 5.7. Pet scan clear last year... just went for CT. Does anyone else have fluctuating CEA levels?

Frustrated with a friend...
She was diagnosed with Stage I anal cancer a year ago. Instead of having the tumor removed and starting the Nigro protocol, she traveled to Germany and then to a clinic in Mexico for alternative treatments. Two weeks ago, she was told the cancer had returned and metastized to her peritoneum and a couple of lymph nodes. Now…

Anxiety
I am five weeks out of treatment and the anxiety is becoming overhelming. This site has been very helpful, but I haven't found many questions answered about the emotional healing. I understand my body is still in the throws of radiation. The Cancer Center in Rhode Island has been wonderful with support, but I'm still…

Feeling good until..
The mother of one of my son's high school friends ( an RN of many years) asked the old "what kind of cancer" and responded "well...good luck with that!!!). Doesn't give an already scared woman any sunshine feelings..... I know my tumor is the size of a walnut, invasive, etc. Two weeks til my apt at MDA. I may be crazy by…
