Just had my second chemo yesterday. Glad to report all went well, except for one potential snag. My red counts were up higher than last time. That of course is good. My white count was just barely below the threshold of allowable for chemo but he signed me off to have chemo anyway. I was very surprised because I have been…

I had both ovaries removed but I still have my uterus. Finding out I can never have biological children of my own was the most devestating thing. Everyone around…

looking good with cancer
I read an amusing article about a woman with cancer and how people would always comment how good she looked. I got a chuckle out of it thought you'd might enjoy it too. http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/shared/graphics/Living_Beyond_Cancer/Bridges/Fall_2010.pdf

Get this monster out of me please!!
On December 6th, shortly after I woke up, I noticed a large lump in my abdomen. Soon, I was being examined by a doctor friend of mine who told me to get to urgent care. I immediately went, and was told to go get an ultrasound performed. Got it. One hour later, I received the news. "A 12.8 cm solid and cystic mass in right…

Did you feel well even on the good days during chemo?
My mom reports that even after the 8 or 10 days post chemo infusion (and the real yucky days) she still doesn't feel "well". I told her that I thought that the effects of chemo may linger for even a few months after it is all over with. She remains concerned about it and plans to ask her gyn-onc. My dad thinks it is…

Drama in the chemo room
After battling the snow (we've have OVER 3 FEET in past 3 days!), I made it to my chemo session. Halfway through mt carbo portion of my chemo, my palms starting really itching and then turned hot and the color of raspberries. Then the extreme itching started in my ears and then my feet and groin! They stopped the carbo…

At her fingertips
Linda has had sore fingertips, especially the nails. Today at her scheduled chemo appointment the nurse called everything to a halt and consulted the medical oncologist, who called our gynecological oncologist (different hospital.) The Cisplatin/Taxotere mix was called off for today. I guess the sore nails are a bad sign,…

What kinds of things do you do to take your mind off this monster?
Thank you all for your suggestions about diet in fighting this cancer. You have helped me to let go a bit and enjoy a few of the pleasures of life like eating some of my favorite things. I guess I'm learning about not allowing this monster to completely control my life. I was wondering, what kinds of things do you do that…

CT/PET results today: mets to the liver. 4 little spots. :(
Anyone have any encouraging words for me on a dark day? Please someone post and tell me you have liver mets that shrunk away with chemo or that linger without causing trouble! They're small (only one slightly larger than a cm & 3 other tiny ones noted on the report that my gyne-onc couldn't even FIND on my scan images) but…

Chemo tomorrow.. then parole
Hi Loves, I go in for my zillionth chemo tomorrow, well actually I've been chemoing since last January and then I've been given the rest of the month off. I'm giddy with feeling of freedom that a mere three weeks will allow me. My CA-125's are still elevated, but a cat scan shows that my disease is stable, so I intend to…

Need some insight
So Mom went to have her 7th treatment today and my sister tagged along for the first time. Mom is going for a second opinion on Wednesday so the oncologist did not do the chemo incase the other oncologist wants to do something else. Otherwise chemo will go forward next week. Here is what we learned: 1) Mom's tumour has not…

Going back for a real second opinion
So as many of you may remember Mom's surgery was unsuccessful due to the location of her tumor. We asked for a second opinion at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto and Mom's oncologist begrudingly sent her for one Sept 27th. Well it turns out Mom did not see a oncologist or a surgeon. She saw a clinical studies doctor.…

Jayne Armstrong....world's most amazing woman
Jayne posted a couple of days ago on Face Book that she had been out bike riding with a friend. She must be the only patient in the history of Hospice who can do that! Jayne has just passed her 8th anniversary with OC and continues to fight, even though she is no longer doing active treatment. The world needs more heroes…

Good news I think
Mom and I went to the oncologist today. Her tumor markers with chemo only are down to 102, she's had two chemo's. They started at 770. So we are hoping and praying that the chemo will get it in remission before she even has surgery. The onc said the gyn/onc was very hesitant to do surgery on her because it might be…

Is this normal behavior?
Right on schedule my hair has started to fall out 2 weeks post first chemo. I went and paid $60 for a darling pixie hair cut that will last what? 2 days, 3 days? Geez, I should have used it toward a wig, some scarves, hat...but but....Oh well, I did ask her if I would have to pay for the hair cut if when she went to blow…
