Stage 1C GR 2 Clear Cell Recurrence
Hello, Just thought I'd give an update on what's going on with me. First some background. I was originally diagnosed with OVCA Clear Cell Stage 1C Grade 2 in August, 2009. Had complete hysterectomy, usual chemo protocol of 18 weeks carboplatin and taxol. Have been happily enjoying remission for about 1 year. My last CA125…

Funny how "De-sensitised" we become to cancer
Thought I'd share my little experience with you to illustrate how we can become so used to having cancer that we ALWAYS assume everything that goes wrong in our bodies "MUST BE CANCER" I had to go for a follow up cervival screen because my routine test came back with "changed cells" Well my first thought…

HELP: On feet all day with Doxil
Hi all - hopefully you can help, my mom is now starting Doxil. Her oncology nurses haven't been very helpful, I'm basically repeating instructions from the Doxil website, and it's like it's the first time they heard it. They didn't know you're supposed to ice the day before and up to 5 days after. They said they just wait…

What does this say about what people believe about Ovarian Cancer?
MANY times when people ask me what kind of cancer I have, and I answer "Ovarian." They respond with, "Well, at least they caught it early, you're doing great!" I find myself in the awkward position of having to say, "Well, actually they didn't, I was 3C." I struggle with being politely non committal, because I really don't…

What next?
I was getting up this morning when my mom came to my door and said we have a flood. Evidently she had flushed the toilet, gone to sit in the living room and didn't know it was overflowing until the water reached the living room. We started throwing towels down but soon ran out. We got out the wet/dry vac but it was missing…

Next installment.............the wonder of anti-sick meds
Right, I ended up going back to the pharmacy a third time for a third set of anti-sickness meds. I never realised there were so many different types and the way they affect and control the nausea is amazing. So I now have Ondansetron (Zofran) - these block the "sicky" messages being transmitted from the stomach to the…

Good news day
I just returned from a long day at the hospital. First, I visited my onc/gyn who reported that the CA125 had taken another dive since last month, to 22.7. It was 76.7 last month and 167 the month before, and this last year it hovered around 150ish all year on doxil. He sent me down to the port doctor, to check out why the…

Best second round treatment with least side effects...........
My mother was put on Topotecan about a month ago which ended up putting her back into the hospital. Her CA 125 is around 1900 and she has fluid in the lungs which had to be drained and fluid in the kidneys that had to be drained and a possible intestinal obstruction.......She is supposedly platinum resistant now. Please…

nancy591: Looks like we have scans planned roughly the same time; same fears (((hugs)))
Hi, Nancy! I saw the news of your upcoming CT/PET buried in another thread. Couldn't help but think that our journeys are running parallel lately. I had my 3rd round of Doxil this morning, and don't have today's CA-125 back yet. But my CA125 has been insane on the Doxil so far, with labs taken every 3 weeks, sig-zagging…

An answer found to my mother's post chemo vision disturbance. Not good
Today they did an MRI and found four new small stokes that have caused the issues. Neuro indicated that cancer can thicken the blood. From what I read chemo can also cause issues. So here we are. They do not know if her vision will return. She says she can't see well enough to walk safely or even change her colostomy bag.…

My grandma on my dads side passed away when she was 44. She had breast cancer. I've got two older sisters, 4 Aunts (from my dads side), about 5 cousins (2 are a few years younger than I) and none of them have this diagnosis. I am somewhat angry because I've got two babies to raise and my quality of life is so diminished. I…

Just wanted to let everyone know that Lisa13Q and I had the chance to actually meet in person yesterday in the waiting room of the chemotherapy center. Our visit was brief, just a few minutes long. I know I'm taking a break but...
I know I'm taking a break but I wanted to repost this here. This was in response to a post on Inspire, and I think perhaps my "break" has helped me to begin to sort out some stuff. I thought I'd throw it out there for you to comment on. This was a response to the lack of OVCA attention. "Part of the issue is that we are an…

Maybe it's just me....
I have a friend - a lady a few years older than me, who calls/visits every few months. She is the same friend who, when I was in the hospital last year, unable to eat and vomiting uncontrollably, that told my husband I might be making myself throw up - an absolutely ludicrous notion. Anyway, this friend came over yesterday…

Gync/onc visit
Saw my doctor today for my first official since last chemo in July. She said everything looked good but ca-125 up from 7 to 21. She doesn't seem to overly concerned but will keep an eye on it, next ca-125 will be in Jan. I asked questions that I wasn't able to ask before, I liked the answer to some but not to the others.…

Sometimes I just want to drink myself numb
Honestly, This isn't even my disease and I feel like I'm barely hanging in there. Maybe this is just a down period. I'm not coping well. I really hate this disease. I feel like I will survive my mothers illness and then get it myself. Even if caught early, it seems like it still gets you. I can't believe we are going…

I feel so ill
Hi everyone Just thought I'd drop a line to say...............OMG Caelyx (Doxil) is so harsh. I am feeling pretty bad. It is 5 days since my 1st infusion and I have never felt so ill before in my life.I was OK until day 4 so I didn't take any anti-sick tablets. When day 4 came along I felt sick and had diarrohea. Stage 3C - Metastasis"on" my liver Anone else have this on the liver?
I was diagnosed with Stage 3C back in May 2010. Had the surgery and on my last round of chemo. I had 3 tumors that were slightly larger than 2cm that the surgeon left. I was told that they would shrink with chemo. Does anyone know of anything pertaining to the liver and ovarian cancer? My liver function is normal and the…

Lousy Dreams
I felt like I was dealing with the cancer DX, blood clot injections and upcoming Chemo pretty well. Eating well, sleeping well and getting moderate exericse do the degree I could being 3 weeks post surgery. Then the last two nights I started to have very troubling dreams. Not nightmares but still waking up and leaving me…

Dodged another bullet
Well girls, had a scare. Had to go in for another pelvic "inspection" and CA125. Turns out I pulled a muscle (slightly) but enough to set up the alarm pattern. All turned out ok-pelvic was good and CA125 dropped down again, now at 5. Got the go ahead to head down to our winter home (Fla keys) I then continue with an…

Aloha everyone, My name is Catherine. My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer a few months ago and was removed and caught on the first stage. Mom back in hospital after her first carbo/taxol last Monday
Just for the record, ovarian cancer sucks. I mean really--- all this misery with my mom and then to come to the site and discover Saundra and another in hospice care--- not to even mention that woman with the incredible blog. Ugh. I was hoping that the carbo/taxol would go well, but my mom seemed to get progressively…

NCI Trial IP Chemo
If interested, you can google this. I am starting 5 of 6 Cycles of IV paclitaxel weekly and IP carboplatin for a 2nd recurrence of Stage IV endometrial cancer. The chemo treatment has been refined and is not that difficult. I think that close to 90% of women complete the 6 Cycles. When I complete the 6 Cycles, I will post…
