THIRD Recurrence in 3 years
I have been reading this board since early 2009 and know how helpful and kind you are all. My husband was diagnosed with hypopharyngeal cancer in 2009 and went thru standard chemo/rads. Sept 2010 popped up again, same place, and he had radical flap surgery w/neck dissection. All was well until today when he went in for his…

Anyone get a facial breakout/acne post treatment? How is your wound healing?
I don't usually get adult acne, when I do, it's like one or two pimples. Several days ago, I had 6 pimples pop up. They are different though, and I'm not sure if it's because my skin is really dry and my healing is different due to treatment finishing 2 month ago, they open on their own, crater and scab in the middle. I…

Using fluoride trays while receiving radiation
I received a reply from long term survivor-Thank You-but decided to post this as new. My surgeon indicated that I needed to have my fluoride trays before starting radiation. While meeting with my Radiologist last week he said that I would not be using them during the time that I was receiving radiation. Receiving radiation…

unexpected dry mouth solution
We stumbled upon an unexpected solution for dry mouth at night, C-PAP. Jim has sleep apnea but has not worn his C-PAP machine for almost a year because of it being uncomfortable and pressing on the already painful nerve that the tumor pressed on and so got out of the routine of wearing it. Well his PC doc said he was not…

Results Are In....It's A Boy...
LOL, just teasing.... Actually I had A CT last week along with blood work, CBC, TSH and and GFR. Got the report back the next day, but saw my Chemo MD today for the official reaing... All is well, a little continued fullness of tissue on the left tonsil area. But no signs of recurrence, and no significant changes since…

For those who know me and my mom's story: in about 4 hours my mom is going for the PET scan, please pray. This is a follow up on the CT scan that showed enlarged lymph node on the right side. Will give you updates on the results but we will probably have to wait a couple of days.

Have any of you had extremely low blood sodium and / or fluid around the lungs after completing radiation. Mom is having a time of it. She finished 2 and a half months ago. Her sodium dropped to 109 and has got her very confused.

Sore throat?
I finished treatment Dec12/11 for left tonsil Ca and left lymph involvement. I've had a sore throat the past week, it hurts a little to swallow near the top and down the right side. I vaguely recall this sensation near the end of and shortly after treatment, and I wonder if I've aggravated the area recently by eating all…

weekly vs. 3 cycles of cysplatin.
Hello, My husband Robert is scheduled for weekly cysplatin chemo infusions for the 7 week period along with the radiation treatments. The standard is 3 cycles of cysplatin but there are issues with hearing loss and people getting so sick that they don't even get to the third round. Sloan kettering says that it is an…

Has anyone beat the mucous problem with trachs?
I am at my wits end. I was diagnosed and treated (chemo & radiation) for squamous cell carcinoma in the base of my tongue. I am thankful that I am still in remission but the radiation just keeps on giving. On the recommendation of my doctors, I had all my teeth pulled before beginning radiation to prevent bone necrosis.…

Carboplatin?
I'm going to do another round of radiation/chemo. One week of Cyberknife and three consecutive weeks of Carboplatin. Supposedly Carboplatin has a lot fewer side effects than Cisplatin. Anyone have experience with Carboplatin?

have you had a recurrence??
Hi all, and please forgive me for posting again but I'm extremely scared and can't quit thinking about this stuff again. I orginally had SCC (voice box) and it was treated with 35 rad treatments (Sept/Oct 2009). I'm still dealing with the side effects as I'm sure we are all. So now I have more to deal with. I was told that…

Bad news yesterday
Well the doctors came into my room to talk to my wife and me after the big tumor board meeting, to tell me that the cancer is inoperable and no radiation could be done, the tumor is growing around my carotid artery and could at any time collapse it or cut into it and basically kill me instantly. How do you take that…

Hi all: It's finally winter time here in GA; going to 19 tonite! Wanted to update you on a few things. My sister's friend Fred got a good report yesterday. They feel they got it all from the surgery and no further treatment necessary at this time. Unnfortunately, Eddie, on the other hand is not doing well. He had one…

Giving up or denial or both
My mom is 68 and she has had 1 Chemo and 11 Rads. She seems to be in denial, not eating or drinking. So we spend more time at the hospital getting fluids. Potassium low also. Not sure what to do... I am at a loss as to what to do. If she won't do for herself then, it makes it really hard to help someone that won't help…

The nurse called the house yesterday and told my husband he has no vitamin d in his body and he needs to go out and get some and take immediately. Not sure why his vitamin d levels would be low. He gets out of the house everday.

My little farewell
Had my checkup again today. All good two years out. In the beginning I didn't think I would be on here saying that. Really makes me realise you just have to live. Simple. Yes I know we have side effects. Just channel that to believing that's how it's always been. Reason why I say that is cause the doc said how's your…
