"Monday, Monday, can't trust that day" (the sequel)
(The Mamas and the Papas reference) I highly recommend not answering the phone on Monday. I answered the phone on Monday. (I seldom take my own advice.) It was GastroPod! Wow! Within an hour of arriving home from CATScanDu, here was GastroPod on the phone. That is a rather worrisome development to me. Perhaps I have been…

"Monday, Monday, can't trust that day"
(The Mamas and the Papas reference) Yesterday was Easter Sunday, and despite the fact I am not a religious person, I was for whatever reason amped up for the day. This is all the more curious because there were not really going to be a bunch of the usual suspects at the house. My daughter and her hub and the kids, for…

Do you know...
Hi all, A few hours ago I read about quercetin and vitamin C posted in this forum and when I looked for it again it disappeared. If you had posted that information or if anyone knows how to PM the poster, could you please PM me? Thanks, Frank

HPV Negative but P16 Positive
Lots of pent up questions tonight. Doctors were surprised at this pathology but told us the P16 positive "trumped" the HPV negative. Still doesn't make sense to me. I thought P16 was a type of HPV. Anyone have this same outcome? They say there can be false negatives and maybe the HPV part was a false negative but the P16…

Number of lymph nodes with metastisis
My husband seems to have had a lot of involved lymph nodes in comparison to others here They removed 70 nodes and said at least 14 were involved. Mostly I read people here have 2 or 4 lymphs involved. He had a clear PET scan concerning metastisis elsewhere. I don't know if the number is a discouraging fact or if they go in…

Spring Is In The Air
Hello Everyone, It's Easter Sunday. For me, that always meant that Spring had sprung! Last year at this time I was in a hospital bed recovering from the surgery of Good Friday to remove 41 lymph nodes and to remove a tumor on the base of tongue. The shock of learning that I had cancer and multiple biopsies lay behind me…

"And tonight's the longest night"
(ELO reference) I guess there are four or five days that still sort of haunt me, although I am getting better with them as I am really starting to get this eating thing down. Christmas and Thanksgiving of course, require a great deal of patience and, can I say it, fortitude, on my part. Some people just don't get it, this…

doctors comment -
Well, the doctor did not tell me, he told my husband. We went Friday for his 3rd weekd of rads and he came out and said the doc said he was doing goog with all the side effects but not sure the treatment is doing exactly what they planned. Of course, I question him and he side steps and changes the subject. I know he is…

"And if I said to you tomorrow"
(Led Zeppelin reference) So I went to my 10AM appointment, to get the surprise CT scan and when I got there I was not the one surprised. Surprise! The lady at the desk said my appointment was for 12PM. I said, "Hmmm...I am sure they told me 10AM." She said, "Hmmm, let me check." And then she said, "Oh, you were supposed to…

Swollen Tongue Before treatment starts
My mom was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago with Stage 4a base of tongue cancer. The tumor is 5cmx4cmx2cm. We are leaving for Mayo Clinic Monday for a 2nd opinion. However, if she sticks her tongue out it is noticably swollen on the left side (the side that the tumor affects). She said today her tongue feels more swollen and…

PEG Pain
Hi All...My husband has had 1 chemo and 7 rads. All is going well so far with this (I know it is early). His main problem has been the pain associated with his stomach. He had the PEG put in on March 24, which he is not using yet. Since then, he has had back issues, occasional sharp pain in his right thigh and continual…

"I'm BACK in the saddle again"
(Aerosmith reference) To be completely honest, when my death sentence was commuted (the lung thing), it took awhile to get over, to be sure, but I think I came to think of myself as not just lucky but even indestructible, even immune. Of late, and over the course of the last year or so, no matter what has transpired, and…

Biopsy Today
Today my doctor performed the biopsy of the mass in my nasopharynx. Trips to the OR are never fun but it went well and I'm thankful for all of the great staff at Strong Hospital. Dr. Vandersloot said that the mass appeared smaller than it did several days ago when he found it during a routine scope. He went on to say that…

Skin sensitivity
I finished chemo and radiation in January for a basal cell cancer at the base of my tongue. In February I developed sensitivity on the skin of my arms, chest and upper back. It feels like a sunburn and gets more intense with cold weather. Has anyone had this type of reaction to chemo or radiation?
