Anyone in New England? (US)
I'm throwing a party for family and friends to celebrate the launch of my novel. I wanted to extend that invite to my family here. If you want to chat, see what the scars look like 11 years out, or whatever - feel free to drop by! :) I live in CT and all the details are on my blog:…

amifostine
It's been recommended that I use Amifostine during radiation in small doses. I was just curious what everyone's experience was with it. It's optional for me. Bob

Waiting for reversal of trach and GT
My name is Cheryl in California. I was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer in March of this year after 1 1/2 years of laryngitis and a little surgery to remove what my doc thought was a nodule. Pathology came back cancer. 2 weeks later my throat colapsed and I literally died. I woke up 4 days later out of a medically induced…

Nurse Navigator Programs
This sounds like a great program from Alegant. The website is:http://www.alegent.com/body.cfm?id=3866&action=detail&service=246 What now? It’s the most natural question to ask when you receive a cancer diagnosis. And it’s a question that’s hard to answer when dealing with the emotions and thoughts that inevitably overwhelm…

Oh well I'm official heading towards deaf
Had my hearing test today, they confirmed what I already knew, I'm DEAF, well, not totally deaf, but the letters S and F I cannot hear at all, start a hearing aid trial next week, which they believe will help a little so hopefully this will help. It was the cisplatin chemo drug that did it. The tinnitus is awful at times…

any advice? please?
Hi - I'm a caregiver for my hubby who is still in the hospital recovering from a laryngectomy. Right now he wants to eat and swallow, but the docs all tell him not yet. Nothing in your mouth but antibacterial mouth swabs (which I bet taste like butt). I know he still has radiation to get through, as well as getting up to a…

Chemo Done
Dave finished up with his last cisplatin Monday, 6 more rads and he is finished with treatment, and on the road to recovery. YaHoooo. He has done really well except for the thick mucus, and nausea. He has lost only 16 pounds with the feeding tube so far. Wanted to let everyone know how he is doing so far. Hope all are…

More comments from the inane and idiotic
Okay everybody, time to share! What new idiotic comments have you heard recently? From my mother-in-law, at Sunday dinner (prepared by me) at my house: "Are you done yet?" ... "Are you done?" ... "Are you done yet?" ... "Done yet?" ... "Done?" Me: "No. Are you?" At the club: "But you didn't get all wrinkly." Me: "?" Also…

Happy anniversary to me
Two years ago Tuesday, I had my last dose of chemo and my last dose of radiation. Today I went back to Johns Hopkins to see my ENT, who once again told me all is well. I have a PET scan scheduled for February, and the doctor said that if the scan shows nothing worrisome, I won't need any more PET scans. That's a good…

neuroendocrine Cancer Larynx
Doe's anyone else here have this kind of cancer. I have read and read and never find this sort of cancer on here. I also see everyone knows their treatments and I know very little. external resorption of teeth
Just found out that I may have one or two teeth that have external resortion. Anyone else deal with this? The treatment is usually to extract the teeth so that means for oxygen treatments for me. And if anyone else has had this what did your dentist do? And is this caused from my radiation treatments I had 10 years ago?…

Decision for radiation
Hello all: I am hoping for some advice from someone who has "been there done that." Last June I was diagnosed with Low grade, Stage I mucoepidermoid carcinoma in the minor salivary glands on the roof of my mouth. I had surgery on August 12, with clear margins. My surgeon thought I would not need radiation; however my…

Hello from new member in Washington DC
Hello everyone. My name is Marc. I work for the FDA and live in Washington, DC. I have been a stable, healthy CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) patient, in "watch and wait", since 2002, when in May, 2010, I experienced a rather sudden eruption of my right tonsil, which was biopsied and diagnosed as Stage 4 SCC, which had…

PEG TUBE CLEANING
My PEG is one of my best buds, as it is a permanent (more or less (a lot more than less) fixture in my abdomen (invokes comments like, nice abs, Awesome Tube!), due to the collateral damage that was done to my esophagus during rad treatment (no friend of the body, as my doc says). The radiation sealed the entrance to my…

PET scan results!
Well I'm not gonna say I'm doing the NED dance as good as if I had some liquid lube in me (beers); but the results were good. The doc says no NED. There was one spot that showed up a little hot but he attributed that to irradiated muscle tissue attracted by the PET Glucose. He said that if he was worried he would have done…

shirts - what is most comfortable to wear for neck irritation from radiation?
Hi, My husband is starting his second week of treatment (1 chemo down, 28 rads to go). For his neck, he already started using the aquaphor (or axle grease as he likes to call it) religously. I also bought him calendula and aloe if that starts to work better. However, the collars on his shirts, and even his t-shirts are…
