Oncologist Scope Today
So my radiation oncologist scoped me today, 6-8 weeks post rads, 5 chemo down and one to go. Doc said everything looks good, my tissue has healed well. The only complaint I have is that my tongue is still burned to crap and so is my throat, internal of course. Eating food is my biggest challenge because it hurts so bad. I…

Fever
Good Morning all. My husband is out of treatment now for stage IV neck cancer. His last radiation treatment was 3 weeks ago, last chemo same time. Yesterday he started running a fever of 100.8. I know during treatment we were told to notify the oncologist anytime his temperature went over 100. Spouse did not want me to…

Anyone have advice on swallowing pills? limited saliva
Glenn is recovering really well and is eating again. He's at the stage of trying lots of stuff to see what works and what doesn't He ends up eating some of the most unlikely (to me) stuff but it works so we go with it. The other night he swallowed a tiny pill at bedtime and hacked it up about 15 minutes later. He said it…

Had a clean scope today
I'll be two years out come Oct. 5, and today I went back to Johns Hopkins so my radiation oncologist could assault my nose with that stupid tube with the camera on the end and poke around in my throat for awhile. (My nose still resents the intrusion.) However, I got a clean bill of health. Matter of fact, at my last…

Ex-TUBE-ation
Mark had his tube removed today. Took it into his own hands and made the appointment without any recommendation from his docs. They had to scramble to get his ENT to say it was ok. He has not used it in four weeks and his weight is on the rise. Looks like he has been shot in the stomach. Never thought we would be here. I…

Great New Picture of Dennis...Everybody take a look!!
Sorry Dennis to put you out there...but I agree with Hondo...that is a great picture and you need to be seen, and deserve your own thread. You have traveled one of the toughest roads I have read about on these boards. New picture of Dennis is on the Michael Douglas thread!!! Like Billy Crystal said..."if you look…

The Prayer
Thank you all for keeping this forum active. I do wish it was available during my time. I had spent hours in the library, but found the bookstore had more recent publications. There are more individuals posting so I consider this the best forum for cancer survivors. I do not contribute as often since there are newer…

feeding tube
My mother had her surgery 15 months ago. A majority of her tongue was removed and she has been using a peg for nutrition ever since. She tries to swallow liquids or pureed foods without much success. Any feedback on what has worked for others would be appreciated. Thanks.

Today's Procedure
Well folks, I made it through my simulation with flying colors! I had to remind myself several times to breathe, relax and that I was not choking. I feel great knowing that I can make it through the daily treatments. Now the funny news. I have some fluid collection from my neck dissection that will not go away, despite…

I have been gone for a while. There was a reason
Hi everyone! I am alive and well these days. I don't seem to be complaining as I once did. Energy levels are raising and my blood pressure has never been better. Starting now... back to may last post( which is a rather long time) I went from weak to weakest only to find out that I needed heart surgery. I am one of those…

I returned to work today - with a bag of goodies to eat and my feeding bag and slupplies if I can't get enough down. It feels so good to be back. I work at the tech desk at a high school - not very labor intensive.

endoscopy fail
I had an endoscopy yesterday, well an aborted endoscopy. The nice Dr could not get the endoscope down my throat and did not want to risk perforating my esophagus. So now I have a barium swallow on the 25th to determine the location of the stricture so they can go back in another week to try and open it up. I know Joe has…

HPV study interesting article
My niece sent me this link to an article about HPV and oropharyngeal cancer. Excerpt: "Cancer-causing HPV strains have been implicated in half of oropharyngeal cancers, and 90% of HPV-related cases have been pinpointed to HPV-16 in studies" http://www.medpagetoday.com/InfectiousDisease/STDs/6508 Best, Mick

Michael Douglas has cancer
Details are somewhat sketchy, but it's in the throat and sounds like it's spread to at least one lymph node. You can read about it here, http://bit.ly/bqw3bA if you're so inclined. None of us would wish this cancer on anyone, but perhaps there's a bright side: Having a celebrity as "one of us" could wind up bringing some…

Swelling
Hi - I'm new here, and looking for help. My husband had surgery for HPV-related pharyngeal cx in March,2010, followed by a series of radiation & chemo treatments that ended in late June. The removal of his lymph nodes left him with the familiar "turkey neck" appearance. In the past 2 weeks or so, he has begun swelling at…

Still Have pain!
Hello, Hope everyone had a good weekend!! I am starting my 7th week post treatment and still have pain in the back of my throat on the right side when I swallow. Also some pain in the right jaw area. These areas are obviously where I got the most radiation. Is this normal to still have pain this far out of treatment? :(…

GOOD THAT ACTUALLY HAD A TASTE
I have been trying to find something to eat that was even remotely close to what it tasted like prior to chemo and radiation. I tried Quaker Instant Cheddar Cheese Grits with salt and pepper and butter today. For the first time, I could not tell a difference in the taste between the Grits now and prior to rads and chemo.…
