I haven't had cancer yet, but I will at some point in my life if my treatment stops working because I have Gardner's Syndrome. I recently have started sharing my story. So far I have a blog, and have started to write a…

Another Brick In The Wall Pt.1
Well, as I start my second week in the hospital the onc told me no chemo this week. They don't want to beat me up with a double whammy of chemo on top of everything else. I started to have terrible diarrhea this morning and instead of lomotil after every BM up to 20 a day, I get 2 tablets every 4 hours which doesn't do any…

Question re prep for Sigmoidoscopy (versus colonoscopy)

Sometimes life is just Good to you
Here I am flying somewhere over Colorado playing with my iPad, thanks to Southwest having wifi service on their planes! What next? Isn't technology great? My first flight the flight attendents gave me fee drinks (those "strong" must be over 21 kind),, then in Denver sitting in a restaurant a man grabbed my 32.00 dollar…

RFA experience?
Radio Frequency Ablation...wondering if anyone has experience with this procedure? I've been at this cancer thing for 8 months and have been considered non-operable. Have had 13 chemo treatments, and the onc wants to do one more, do scans, and then consider surgery on the primary rectal tumor, and RFA on the tumors in the…

actually went on holiday!!
I have had to cancel so many plans over the past few years I hardly dare even think about them very directly. But, in the midst of a fairly brutal chemo regime, I actually managed to go away for a nine day holiday with my honey. IT WAS DIVINE! My oncologist (conservative!) was great in allowing me to go (and telling me I…

Sodium bicarbonate
I guess I am posting this as a question mostly for Pete43lost_at_sea since he seems to be the expert on alternative treatment. Has anyone included sodium bicarb in their own treatment plan? And does anyone know what their Ph level is? Mine fluctuates between five and six. Just curious. Their is a doc at University of…

Back in the hospital...
You know you visit the hospital too often when the ER nurses know you by name and give out hugs. So, yes, I was finally able to get Rick to agree to go to the ER. He was severely dehydrated and still in a lot of pain. His bowel is obstructed again, but since he's scheduled for the stent procedure on Thursday, the doctor…

The Song Remains the Same -- Update
When I was admitted on Tuesday, they did some chest x-rays. Some more were taken yesterday and there's no change in the pneumonia or the blood clots. You'd think after that many days of heavy antibiotics and blood thinner that there'd be something. We still haven't got the results from the Bronchoscopy they did one…

3 weeks ago my 46 yr old husband went in for a colonoscopy thinking they would say hemorroids. So the surgeon came out and said it was cancer...likely story it seems. He was immediately sent for blood work and ct scan. Later that week he went for a pet scan. 2 weeks ago we met the oncologist who told us stage 4 - that…

Has anyone had a colonic stent procedure?
Hi all, By any chance has anyone had a colonic stent put in? If so, was it a quick day surgery (I hope the answer is yes...), or did you need to stay in the hospital overnight? Any info. is appreciated since Rick is going in on Thursday for this procedure due to continuing bowel obstructions. At the moment, he can't even…
