NOVA | Cracking Your Genetic Code
This was pretty interesting and rather frightening at the same time. There are states that already allow genetic testing to be used to deny companies from hiring or insuring people based on genetics. The GOOD side is that they can customize treatments for people with rare diseases and also with various cancers. It's still…

The Pain...is a Pain
I've had an interesting time the last couple of days. My stomach pain ramped up to new, scary level. Last night was a lesson in how to get through the night because you hate going to the ER so much. I literally moaned myself to sleep. Saw my doctor this morning. I have fought low potassium for several years now, and that…

Call Congress
PLEASE take a few minutes of your day to call in. This is one of the issues I went to Call On Congress for. Both the Digestive Disease National Coalition and Fight Colorectal Cancer had this on the agenda. This is a bi-partisan issue. It is not something that is at debate, but was an oversight in the original legislation…

The pros and cons of genetic testing?
I'm considering requesting getting tested for Lynch syndrome and I'm wondering what people think about that. It is possible I meet the criteria for HNPCC and I think I should get tested as well as my kids. My oncologist never brought it up nor has any other doctors involved in my care, but that is common from what I hear.…

“The Story of the Man They Call Big Billy” - The Man, The Myth or The Legend?
It was late winter of 2010 and the nights were long and dark. I had ‘tied one on’ at the Infusion Center Lounge that day with yet another “Folfiri Bender” - one of the most popular cocktails that they serve at the waterin’ hole I imbibe at. It packed quite the knockout punch on me – you could say that I could do “One and…

Bad news Good News
Last week I had ct scans and pet scans done. Had bad pains down below and my wife and I were hoping to make a big trip in May to the orient. I told my onc that I needed to know if anything new was going on before we bought the tickets and made all the arrangements. He agreed and ordered the scans. The good news is the…

Avastin - should my daughter refuse it?
Hello all. My daughter resumes her chemo tomorrow after LAR on Feb. 23. The onc wants to change it over to Folfiri with Avastin. She was on Folfox without Avastin because she had blood clots and is on Lovenox. So he wants her to stay on the Lovenox and take the Avastin. He said the Folfox had "plateaued." (?) We are…

Apparently one liver enzyme is out of whack and he want's to have a bone scan done, just in case. But apparently the PET was clear of everything except some irritation…
