Time to rejoice!
Just got home from Jake's latest chemo. His onc had the results from the PET scan he had on Saturday. Here are some of the findings: "The only slightly warm residual area of adenopathy is just lateral to the left lobe of the thyroid gland, with a max SUV of only 2.7, and this node is markedly reduced in size from the prior…

Immune system and nutrition, off to a conference this weekend to focus on these areas
This is my favourite explanation of immunity, great reading if you have the interest and time. http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/immunity.html The key message is nutrition is key to your immune system. It is important to note that PEM usually occurs in combination with deficiencies in essential micronutrients,…

I saw my oncologist today- the first follow up with any doctor since being released from the hospital 2-1/2 weeks ago with the pneumonia (although I did have nurses coming to the house to check on me a few times until mid last week). A Funny Story
A friend of Jake's told him this story. It is supposed to be true. The friend was at the Mayo Clinic a few years ago and his doctor had had one of our former presidents for a patient. The President told the doctor to play along with him because he wanted to tease the nurse when she came in. When the nurse came into the…

New Drug to Follow
Referred to as KG5, and developed at UC San Diego: New Drug at UCSD From a personal perspective, if/when they start trials, UCSD is relatively local to me. Still, it is at least five years out from being generally available, and it may turn out to be like many of the promising drugs before it...

The Sundance Book is NOW Finished! – “Let’s Talk About This…”
Well, the book is now finished - I’ve got a full manuscript in my hands now, ready for submission. Can you believe it? You can imagine my thoughts as I’ve crammed 7.5 years of my cancer journey and relived it ‘in detail’ for the writing of this book in less than 5-months, right? I have been living cancer 24/7 these past…

Still NED (AND crazy!) after all these years (singing)
Next week, November 25 to be exact, I will celebrate (?) 7 years since I heard those 3 words. At that point, I was told to 'get my affairs in order' and that 'with all the stats, it looks like similar patients have lived about 6 months'. At 6 months, not only had I come through chemo/rads, J-pouch procedure surgery, but I…

Michael left a hole in my heart, and went to be with Jesus tonight
Tonight at 7:42 PM, Michael lost a fierce and courageous battle with cancer. He was at home surrounded by his Family and Friends. I am amazed at how many lives Michael touched in his 43 years and one day on earth. I can't begin to imagine what he can accomplish in heaven while he is watching over all the people who loved…

Guinness World Record for Most Surgeries?
Nah, probably not...this is only my 5th in two years, and I bet there are folks on this forum who can beat my record! But really, I'm grateful that I can continue to get…
