Dear Ones, A brief bio for those not overly familiar with me: diagnosed 2003 with Stage 3 rectal cancer. Recurrence (lung met) in 2005 and in 2007. In June, I finished 6 months of chemo (FOLFOX plus Avastin). A thousand thanks, from the bottom of my heart (I'm teary as I write this!) to all of you who helped me get through…

And the world is good....
I MUST share my good news. I was going to anyway, but now that I just read my dad's post...well, I felt the urge (no, not to use the pot...although...I digress...). As you all know, my last 3 years have been, to put it mildly, a bit of a challenge to my sanity. I actually left for Europe this summer worried that, like…

CT Scan next week
Well, another 3 months have come and gone. It is time for my husband to get his check up next week.(Dx stage 3 rectal in Sept 06, chemo and radiation, surgery, Folfox, and reversal in late May) We have so many questions this time. After his reversal, he has still been in so much pain on and off. I am sure he will never be…

You are all always in my prayers. My dad goes for his follow-up CAT scan this Monday and will get the results on Thursday. For those of you who know me,…

Poly-MVA-----Any experience with this?
Hello All... I am generally not a person that would investigate alternative supplements. I shared with my acupuncturist that my tumors had increased in size and number and she became very concerned. She paused for a moment and decided to tell me about a product by the name of Poly-MVA. She has been researching it and is…

TIME TO TAKE A BREAK
OK... I've been away for a pretty long time. I came back to find way too much gloom and doom posing and decided to lighte n things up a bit! http://beboframe.com/FlashFrame.jsp?Size=S&FlashBoxId=3309347442 Yes, we are all here to seek and or give advice and cheer each other up, but PLEASE - let's not limit ourselves to…

what does this mean
I went to see my Doctor to-day for a general check-up, Pap test etc. I had blood work done one week ago and she is "concerned" about my creatinine levels. I've heard that it is not uncommon to have elevated levels during chemo because the kidneys are working overtime to get rid of the toxins. I'm 10 months out of Folfox.…

liver mets vs lung mets
As you know from my past messages the colon cancer from 2003 has metasisized to the skullin 3 places and also multiple nodules in both lungs. I don't know if this is an appropiate question. BUt which is most successful to treat mets to the lungs or mets to the liver?? I saw my oncoligist on Tuesday and he wants to do…

'feelin a little dumb
My last post about "feeling abandoned" must have been done when I was in panic mode. With the help of all your input, I called my onc and got the info I needed. I think we got so caught up in a referral process that everything went on hold. I am on a chemo "break", with a PET scan coming up and then the follow-up plan. My…

Successful surgery and good report
Well, I had the surgery on 8/14. They removed my entire sigmoid colon and part of the descending, so the surgery was a little more indepth than we thought. But I'm blessed - I got good news - the cancerous polyp had not gone any further than the original site and there was no lymph node involvement. The first couple of…

xeloda/avastin/oxal?anyone?
Is anyone on this regimen who isn't on a clinical trial??. My husband is on a trial involving xeloda/avastin and oxalplatinum. He is doing very well but there may be a possibility of surgery or rfa in the near future, and the ONC is very reluctant and hesitant since he is doing so well and since he would have to stop the…

Thoughts and Questions?
Hi Everyone, I started chemo today, again and as usual the emotional stuff is more difficult for me to deal with. Yesterday, while talking with my therapist and complaining about not wanting to go back on chemo, she made the comment that she thought that I had not fully accepted the fact that I have cancer. After thinking…

Prayers Requested & Needed
Way back when I told you guys about a friend of mine, Don Zukas who had throat cancer and was doing well, but apparently he really wasn't. I was told this morning that the doctors at the hospital he is in right now are giving him about 2 weeks. He is in CCU (critical care unit) and is currently on a ventilator and they…

closer to some better answers maybe
We went back to the original surgeon regarding my husbands liver mets, since they've shown such shrinkage and that was our goal and since we've had so much "diversity" in opinions as to number and size. He has ordered an MRI now to get a more definitive answer on how many, what size and how deep they are. We are now being…

back from alaska
Hi Everyone, I got back yesterday from cruising Alaska. I had a great time! We had unusually beautiful weather the whole week. I could have stayed a lot longer. Now it's back to reality and the daily routine. My daughters went back to school today and I start chemo on Wednesday. Yuck!!! Why is it that when you're having…

Good news from a stage 4
I just had my 1-year colonoscopy on Monday, and it came back clear as well. Now there's just the CT scan next month to get past. It will be my first after being off chemo for 3 months. I had a liver resection in Feb 07 and colon surgery in Sept of 06. While its still a long fight, I have hope, and faith. All you stage 3…

Feeling abandoned
Has anyone had experience after treatment stops for the time being? The next thing we are doing is a PET scan, but I had to ask about any labs that would be done to monitor what might be going on. I may be jumping the gun, but I was told the labs are not automatic when you are not in active treatment. I asked my onc. how I…

BACK
Well back from vacation as of 18 Aug 07 and had a great time. Myself, hubby, brother-in-law #1, brother-in-law #2 and wife and 2-yr old niece. My 2-yr old niece is sooo amazing. Always happy, smiling and never cries. Kept me busy with beach and pool activities. The only time the word "cancer" came up is when hubby and I…

Great results!
Hi Everyone, I had my 1-year colonoscopy on Friday, and it came back clear, clear, clear!!! One small polyp that did not look precancerous which was removed. He also biopsied the site of the anastamosis, but said he expects everything to be clear. I am sooooo relieved. Now there's just the CT scan next month to get past.…
