Radiology Oncologist - Weekly checkups
I have completed 7 radiation treatments and had my first "checkup" with my radiology oncologist. Not really sure what I was expecting but he just had me open my shirt and he said, "Yep, looks good" and that was it. I asked if I should have swelling under my arm and he said "No". He asked how my arm felt and I said "Fine".…

8 weeks since mastectomy and I still have my drainage port.
I had a bilateral mastectomy 8 weeks ago and I still have one of my drainage tubes. I'm draining 80 cc's a day of clear yellow fluid. My surgeon says that I am just a slow healer because of my diabetes and he wants to leave it in to avoid any possible conplications. There is no sign of any infection and I'm actually…

I did it, I dyed my own hair
I could not stand it any longer. I have always been a blonde or brownish color with blonde highlites. This white and gray just was not me.I have always dyed and and added highlites myself so I thought what could happen. I went to Sally's and bought a bottle of Miss Clairol and a small bottle of 10 volume developer. All is…

"other" hair loss
I was totally prepared to lose my hair. Shaved it off 15 days after start of treatment without a second thought. Got an awesome wig. Pretty comfortable and I'm ready for work in 20 minutes. Thing is, with the wig I still feel normal. Nobody knows. Next round of Chemo starts the taxol. Am I going to lose my eyebrows and…

Arimidex - Side Effects
I have been on Arimidex for about a year now. In only the last week or so, I have started having swollen ankles, pain in the joints of my fingers and stiffness in my feet and legs. Could this be side effects of Arimidex? If so, why after almost a year? I will call my ONC on Monday but as usual these questions come up on…

fitting in at work
Does anyone feel like you don't fit in at work anymore? While I have lots of friendly people around me, I feel like no one is really a friend. Is it just me, my meds, or could it be true? Has this experience changed me to that extent?

Day 2 of rads done-sticker question
So far so good. I know in a few weeks I may not be saying the same. I have 3 adhesive stickers on my breast, one is in my cleavage. Do these stickers stay on good? I get pretty sweaty. I'm worried they'll come off. Has anyone had that problem?

An Easter HAHA! If you are blonde - Please take no offense! LOL
Three blondes died in a car crash trying to jump the Grand Canyon and are at the pearly gates of heaven. St Peter tells them that they can enter the gates only if they can answer one simple religious question. The question posed by St. Peter is "What is Easter"? The first blonde replies, "Oh, that's easy! It's the holiday…

Quote of the Day
Just received a card from a b/c survivor who has made it her mission to inspire other survivors, while coping with a recurrance herself. Hope this lifts your spirits as much as it did mine: "No one can go back and make a brand new Start. Anyone can start from now and make a brand new Ending." Hugs to all, Judy

Taste Buds - I'm not sure but I think my taste buds are changing. What about your taste buds?
I finished radiation in January. I started Arimidex on Thursday, March 18, 2010. I am not certain, but I think my taste buds are changing. Some foods and some beverages don't taste the same. Does anyone have this problem? Lots of Hugs, Janelle

Drains gone, whoo, hoo..
Hey All, I am 2 weeks post surgery, bi-lateral mastectomy. My 1st visit to the Platic surgeon, removed the drains, I was afraid it might be painful, but it wasnt, what a relief..I feel like a new woman. Also had my 1st fill up for the expanders, again not painful. I have become accustomed to the scars, they arent so bad,…

Nipples or tattoos?
I have had the gel implants put in and love them! My PS did a great job! Now need to decide whether to tattoo or reconstruct nipples then tattoo. If I reconstruct, it will take care of a couple of little imperfections from the reconstruction. I worry, though, about having constant "headlights." I have been told that after…

Infusion port question
I had a port placed in my chest in July for chemo infusion when I had my bilateral mastectomy. It has been a lifesaver!!! I will have it through probably Dec. 2010 due to Herceptin infusions through August. It will be another little procedure to have it removed and I am not going to let this stuff slow me down, so it will…

Financial Assistance - Your Postings Helped An Uninsurable Breast Cancer Woman in Need
To All of You Who Post, If I did not have a recurrence, I would never have been on this site nor would I have been able to give a breast cancer woman the needed information relating to financial assistance. I have known Amy, a jeweler, for a number of years. I only see her and talk to her at the art fairs where she…

Need to ban Dihydrogen Monoxide!
We need to ban dihydrogen monoxide - it is so horrible and kills people! It can burn you, it's in acid rain, it can cause you to stop breathing, it can sink boats - so many things it's involved with that can and does kill people. * * * * * * * * BUT without Dihydrogen Monoxide we would not exist - it's…

Anyone herceptin without chemo??
Hi had 1mm and 3mm invasive cancer - originally they thought it was only dcis, but my results came back ER+ and HER2+ (3) which is the highest so my oncologist wants me to do herceptin for a year (once every 3 weeks), but radiation before that. I met with another oncologist for an opinion and he wants chemo with herceptin,…

Today is my sixth chemo!
I have mixed feelings about today - it's my last chemo . . .or is it??? The surgeon wants to do a mastectomy right away. The oncologist wants to do a petscan to see where we are. He said it's possible that I will need further chemo (with different drugs) before the breast can be removed. What if I don't want that? How much…
