Health Issue for HubbyDearest
HubbyDearest saw an orthopaedist because of pain in his right shoulder. The MRI shows torn rotator cuff. The surgeon ordered blood tests and the results showed high platelets, but also odd shapes. His potassium levels were high too. So he had to see a hematologist. That doctor did a bone marrow biopsy. We saw the doctor…

Mouth Sores while taking Doxil and Herceptin
Hi, My mom was recently diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She is currently taking doxil and herceptin. One of the side effects she is dealing with are painful mouth sores or ulcers. The doctor gave her a prescription for magic mouthwash but it only helps temporarily and makes her entire mouth numb. Does anyone have any…

1st round done!
Just had my first round yesterday. Had Adriamcycin and Cytoxan. Never puked, just got a really bad headache all night. Slept about 4hrs. Nurse said today when I went back to get my shot for my blood, that it was probally because of the anti nausea meds. But I took my pain meds and feel fine. I was really worried about the…

Nails are coming off
Are the nails the last to go? The white tips are getting lower and lower as they are lifting off the nailbed. It's not painful, just looks nasty. I have to keep filing them down. My chemo was done in January and this just started a few weeks ago. Lashes and brows are still holding on, half of them anyway. Anyone else…

Updated diagnosis, Feb 2010: now Stage IV, metastatic disease to bone (extensive disease, in spine, ribs, pelvis, etc.). Oncologist recommending revised hormone therapy…

Feeling cheated
I don't understand why so many of you say that having a port saves having to get poked for blood work but my surgeon insist a port is only intended for administering chemo and not for drawing blood? Last week, the chemo nurse could not get blood from my port so I had to get my blood drawn the usual way. Later that morning,…

Double mastectomy scheduled for 3/16.
I am new to all of this, still in a blur. I have been able to hold it together. I'm not sure if I have accepted it, or am still in denial. I am thinking I may not do so well the night before, or the day of surgery. What should I expect when I wake from surgery?

Newly diagnosed but sort of expecting it...
Hi, all. I'm newly diagnosed and two Fridays ago I had a lumpectomy and twelve nodes removed. Nodes showed negative, and the tumor was 1.4cm. This afternoon I see my oncologist for the first time. I feel like Alice falling through the rabbit hole; all sorts of things are coming at me pretty fast. I try to research, but,…

Arimidex side effects
What is your experience? Has anyone else struggled with lethargy and/or insomnia? I'm a very active person and am very unhappy that sometimes I just don't feel like getting out of my chair. Would love to hear how others deal with it, thanks!

Good Pathology Report!
Saw my breast surgeon today and found out that my pathology report came back all clear! It took longer than expected to get the report and I was as fearful last night as I've ever been, but it turned out OK! I'm looking forward to dancing with this NED guy! :) Thank you everyone for your encouragement over the last six…

Questions from a Young Newcomer
I have a few questions about some things I've recently dealt with. First of all, I am 24 with breast cancer. I finished chemo almost two months ago, and I am a two and a half weeks out of surgery. I had a bilateral mastectomy and still recovering. I will be starting radiation in a week or two, and probably a year will be…

Arimidex and fibromyalgia
This has probably been on before, but I couldn't locate it... I have fibromalgia (also, at 56, a little bursitis, arthritis). Starting Arimidex. I know that many have complained about joint pain - did it get any better, did something else work. Does someone on Arimidex have fibromyalgia and how are you! My onc definately…

Emotional
When I was approaching the oncologist's office yesterday 1 month after completing my chemo, a mom (with head cover) and her daughter were just walking out. The daughter gave her mom a big hug and said "Yay, Mom! You're all done! You did it!" Mom was beaming. I began tearing up with emotion, such was my joy for these two. I…

Tamoxifen and Zometa
Hi, I am postmenopausal but my Onc put me on Tamoxifen because I couldn't tolerate Femara and he thought I would have the same problems with the two other AIs. I will also be getting an infusion of Zometa every six months for three years to prevent bone mets (I have mild osteopenia). My questions are: 1) are there any…

3rd Week - Weight Watchers
I did not go to Weight Watchers last night because I was a volunteer for the fundraising for our Public Station TV Station WTTW (Channel 11 - Chicago). I have always wanted to be one of those people who answered the phone and recorded the pledge. It was a great experience and I certainly want to do it again. In fact, I…

Stapled incision
I just had my lumpectomy last Tuesday. My incisions are quite long, 4 inch under my arm and about 8 inch curve across breast above nipple. Staples were used to close them. It's healing but looks horrible. Not too much pain. Has anyone else had a lumpectomy cut like this and had staples? I get the staples out Wednesday and…

Side effects of Arimidex
Has anyone experienced extreme joint discomfort from taking arimidex, I have been on it since September of 09 after a lumpectomy of the left breast and 6 weeks of Radiation Therapy. I'm afraid they will take me off it and breast cancer may occur, any thoughts on this topic.
