my dad
My dad had an upper GI series done today due to feeling like he has trapped air in his stomach. Well, the radiologist or the technician, that part I'm not sure, told my dad the esophagus appears to be fully blocked. He can eat, it just takes a long time for the food to go where it needs to. I'm so upset. Why can't he just…

Scan results
Well the Dr. told my husband this morning that they found 2 spots on his liver. My worst fear! They are gonna scope him today, and he is very insistant the he is going home today no matter what! They also want to do a bone scan, but he is unwilling ot do it. If those spots come back as cancer, I don't know what we are…

Ahhh we found his kryptonite!
Well, it's milk. Being the smartypants that he is--while I was gone, Layne decided to have not one but TWO glasses of milk instead of introducing it slowly as he was told to do by the docs. And he spent last night in the bathroom. :) Dumping. He has promised to be good henceforth. Doing well, drainage on the incision…

Update on my hubby
Hi all. My hubby had the ultra-sound scope done today to see if the cancer has shrunk. He has already had a PET and CT scan done, but we do not have the results yet of those. The Dr. who did the scope today said that the cancer is 'fried' and thinks that my hubby is ready for surgery. He also said that the cancer doesn't…

I'm looking for gift ideas for a male friend who is about to undergo an agressive radiation and chemo regime simultaneously. Thanks, Being There

Al had a little bump in the road.
Hi All, The dilation and drain removal all went fine but it seems that the tech that did the barium swollow the day before was a little to aggressive in making Al drink that horrible stuff and some of it got into his lungs. The home care nurse came on Thursday and had me cal 911 Als pulse ox was only 74 by the time we got…

Kim's dad will be getting surgery 12/3!
God is Good---all of the time. I hope I am not reapeating myself---but here is some info... My dad is getting surgery 12/3/09. His surgeon at Duke said they are going to try to do it all laproscopically, but I could tell he was leaving the door open (pardon the pun) to the open approach if necessary. I think this may be…

Esophogeal/gastric CA and Herceptin
Does anyone know what information would help in convincing an insurance company to approve payment to use Herceptin for esophogeal CA? It is too expensive for anyone but the ultra wealthy to afford w/o insurance. I have the marker and would like to give it a try. Thanks.

Al's appt
Hi, Well Al had his EGD and a mild dilation. The Dr. just wanted to do it before it might start to give him trouble. They removed the drain! He is now free of all staples and drains and feeding tubes. He is still a little sore from everything. He will be resting for the next day or so but thats it. He will be allowed to do…

I am new here....Feeling helpless and hopeless
My husband was diagnosed in February 2009 with stage 3 EC (T3N1M0). He has gone thru radiation and chemo and had surgery in May. He weighed 217 pinds in February and now weighs 130 pounds. According to a CT, they say the cancer is gone. But, my husband is not getting better. He is still losing weight and has no apptetite.…

Losing weight
Since the latest info surely links obesity and EC, I suppose this fits here. I didn't want to hijack the thread the question was asked in--especially since it is a celebratory thread and we need to celebrate all we can! Layne and I realized a few years ago we were overweight...and it was affecting our health. We needed to…

one more survivor....
Layne's pathology came back as expected. The two nodes that were still carrying a few cells still showed that, not one of the other nodes taken had cancer. :) This means now we do the five year wait! We are so blessed. And as to what Layne eat to GAIN wait through all this--everything. If he wanted something, we let him…

My first entry got lost in the CSN mystery place---so here I go again... (Why did I not list to Bill & Loretta M. and do it on a word document first???) I hate starting over..
