When to end LID?
I feel like I should know this, but I don't... how long until you end the LID? Do you wait until the 1 week whole body scan after RAI, or is there another rule of thumb? No one has told me how long I'm on this lovely diet :(

thyroid scan Friday "questionable" MRI next week
Can someone tell me what this is about? I know everyone is different, but my mind is reeling about what it could be. I am two years (almost) post-op TT. Papillary with a follicular varient...3cm, stage III; RAI 131 Nov 2009, clear scan 2010, questionable scan 2011 (on Friday evening I get this news). I simply keep thinking…

New with Questions
I lost my husband to colon cancer in July 2010 and found out today that my 14 year old niece, who I am very close with, has papillary thyroid cancr which has spread to surrounding lymph nodes. She is scheduled for a total thyroidectomy and removal of the nodes on Aug 9. The Drs have not yet staged the cancer. Can anyone…

Low Dose of I -131 Today
Hi I'm new. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in March, then had a TT in May and had thyrogen injections the past two days and received my RAI today. The dr. said I was getting 50 which is only 1/3 of the typical dose. He was kind of "whatever" about the regulations and kept saying "don't pee on anyone." He told me to…

Diet once everything is done
I have a question for those who have gone through the whole surgery and RAI business and are getting their lives back on track. A friend of mine who is a doctor, advised that I should be staying away from seafood products / iodine as it may stimulate the thyroid cells. Has anybody else been told this? Thanks

Put off surgery?
Need input. My TT is scheduled for Sept. 28 at MDA, I'm going to see if I can get on the cancellation list, but here is my dilemma: My last semester of college is this semester. I'm getting a degree in Computer Systems Maintenance--so very hands on. I would miss a minimum of 2 weeks, possibly 3--which just won't work. If I…

Tried Acupunture
Hi all. I went to my first acupunture session today. I'm tired of feeling not right, and decided to give it a try to see if it can help my body get back to some semblence of its old self. The doctor took a full medical history, asked to see my records, and listened to all my complaints about how I'm feeling. I quite liked…

lymph nodes - random question
Hi - I had a sinus infection a few weeks ago, and I'm not experiencing tightness in the lymph nodes. I've had a TT in Feb (nodule was contained, according to the path report), but my mind always jumps to cancer when things like this happen. I've had the lymph tightness in varying degrees since the sinus infection, but it…

Irregularly Marginated Complex Pre-Dominantly hypoechoic avascular lesion
My ultrasound said that I had a thyroid gland that is homogeneous in echotexture. There is irregularly marginated complex predominantly hypoechoic avascular 1.2 x 0.5 x 0.9 lesion along the posterior margin of the inferior right thyroid lobe. This appears extrathyroidal. The left lobe - there is a 0.7 x 0.5 x 0.6cm only…

RAI 2 years after radiotherapy?
Still waiting on the results of my thyroid FNA (2 years after having had radiotherapy - which included the left side of my thyroid for a head and neck cancer in my parotid gland) Does anyone know if they still do RAI if you've already had half the gland radiated? I'm sure my specialist knows what he's doing - and it's…

My biopsy
Can I just say, MD Anderson ROCKS!! I went in, registered, then had my ultrasound, and stayed in the room--radiologists looked at the pictures and did the biopsy. I choose to skip the lidocaine, not because I was trying to be brave or anything, but because I know how those lidocaine shots hurt, so I figured one needle was…

Thyrogen Shortage
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, Has anyone heard the latest on the Thyrogen shortage? The last I read, Genzyme was saying they were ready to restart production. But the same story also said Genzyme has said this before and not been able to do so. I think this was a week ago. I was wondering if anyone knew if they had really…

Tenderness in Tyroid Bed after Thyrogen Injections
History: I had/have papillary thyroid cancer. It had moved into my lymph nodes but only right around the thyroid bed. I had a total thyroidectomy last July and then the RAI first part of September. Present: I am now going in for a follow-up scan. I have been on the low iodine diet and just had my thyrogen injections the…

Thoughts anyone??? New to this discussion board but not CSN
Hi Everyone, I've been on CSN:head/neck cancer for my partner. I was his caregiver for Stage 4 Tonsil Cancer. I'm happy to say his 13mo PET scan on Thurs 14Jul was clean. As if the past year wasn't enough, I noticed that I was feeling a "weird" sensation when I swallowed, ear fullness, occasional sore throat and sometimes…

I-123 scan & CT scan
Hi guys and gals, Has anyone had a CT scan immeadiately following an I-123 scan? I need to have both done sometime this December, and I'm wondering what sort of scheduling problems there will be. I know that you can't have a CT scan with dye before an I-123 scan or an I-131 treatment. I had a CT scan with dye 5 months…

Second diagnoses??
Hey Everyone, It's been about 2 years since my surgery and RAI, but I still feel like crap all the time. More so tonight than ever I think. My doctor is thinking there may be some other cause as to why I still feel so horrible and my TSH levels keep jumping all over the place. I was just wondering if any of you had any…

I have a scar from the right back of my head at the hair line to the left side of the front of my neck. it's closed with staples, about 30 staples. Needless to say I look horrible. I've never been really vain, but I always got a second look from people…

Scans, tests, etc./Discrimination
I hope other people have input to provide; two years after removal of cancerous thyroid and RAI 123 pill, my antithyroglobulin antigen level was very high so, I Spent one and a half years taking scans, PET< CAT, biopsy, etc etc, nothing was ever 'conclusive' until last January lymph nod removed for reocurrance of thyroid…

Thyroid hormone levels-help! PLEASE!
My endo left early this year and now his replacement is gone. We have a shortage of endocrinologists here and have been told it could take several months to get in to see one. If this is the case...I want to make sure I have the correct levels required for cancer survivors to give to my doctor. As I know it is not the same…

Define "fast growing"
I keep finding references to a type of thyroid cancer that is very rare and fast growing. I'm not in the risk group for this cancer, so I'm not that worried about it, but it does have me wondering what determines a "fast growing" nodule? I've tried finding it, and I've not been successful. My appointment with MD Anderson…

FNA pathology report advice
Here are my Fine Needle biopsy results: Follicular Epithelial Cells and Rare Hurthle Cells Comments: No definitive colloid is identified in this specimen. The cytologic differential diagnosis includes nodular goiter and follicular neoplasm. Nodular goiter is favored somewhat, but clinical correlation is also needed. Nurse…

Allergy medicine + thyroid cancer
I am having severe allergies but I see most of the medicines say not to use them if you have "thyroid disease" - does this apply to those of us with thyroid cancer? Not sure how to work on this, but my post nasal drip has got to GO!
