Chances of recurrence with clear cell
Looking for information on clear cell. I was diagnosed in Aug 2009 with Stage 1A, grade 2 clear cell carcinoma. Had 2 surgeries and the usual 6 rounds of carbo/taxol. Finished chemo in January and my PET/CT scans (2 of them) have been negative so far. CA-125 is down to 7. Things are great, right ? Or are they ? How…

more new research: BRCA-Negative Ovarian Cancer Responds to Monotherapy With PARP Inhibitor
I don't know if many of you like to read new research, but I think it's good if we work to make this Discussion Board an important resource for anyone diagnosed with OVA. It is so great to have one place online that is nurturing and informative, with so much scary inaccurate stuff out there. So here's what I read on…

Any gardeners out there?
Some of you may have read my 'seed box' story on one of my posts. The circle of life and death in a garden allows you to see how natural and inevitable death is for EVERY living thing, not just for us with cancer, but for all of God's living creations. As a life-long organic gardener, I gather the seeds of my plants each…

allergic reaction to carbo
Bummer for me. I went for my infusion of Gem/Carbo and developed a red rash on my face, back, stomach, chest and arms. It started about 3/4 through the infusion of the carbo. Looks like all platinum based meds are out for me now. Onc and gyn onc will decide if just do Gemzar alone or move on to something. I really don't…

Side effects of doxil
Hi.... I am new to this. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer over 20 years ago. I thought I had it beat. But I guess that was not the case. In 2008 it reared its ugly head and I had a surgery and they couldn't get it all and then went through 6 treatments of chemo (Taxol). Had a PET/scan and they said I was cancer free…

White spots
I have a weird question.............well maybe its not weird but not overly serious. I am now 10 weeks post chemo and I keep getting "white pimple spots" on my face. It isn't acne - I've never had acne. I was just wondering if any one else has experienced this? I am thinking it is the toxins of the chemo coming out of my…

how slowly does doxil work?
My mom is on Doxil for her 1st recurrance of PPC. Her CA125 was up to 3800 just 3 months after her original chemo. After 2 doxils her number was 3200 and after 3 doxils her CA was 2500. She completed her 4th doxil a week ago and has not had the CA rechecked since then. Her oncologist is sending her to a gyno-oncologist…

They say I am in remission..so why don't I feel better...?
Has anyone else experienced this? I was dx with stage 3 OV cancer last May. I have gone thru Taxol/Cisplatin IP, then Gemzar/Cisplatin- finished last of treatments May 13th. I have had my scans- and have NED, but he wants me to do maintencnce because it took so long to bring my CA125 down(now @ 17-started at 1000). For the…

So far, just extreme fatique and sleep a lot as to the side effects. Both the gyn/onc and colon surgeon said the further surgery was not an option. All of our kids are coming the 8th of…

Would you like Prozac with that?
This is from 2009, so just humor me if this is old news to the rest of you. Do any of you on Doxil also take Prozac? Is there merit to this (see cut-and-paste below): Dr. Dan Peer of the Department of Cell Research and Immunology at Tel Aviv University is reporting that combining Prozac with doxorubicin increases the…

Tired? Maybe it's not just the chemo
When I went for my monthly dose of Taxol this week, I mentioned (again) how tired I am. My doctor, who was pretty cavalier about it last month (he said, "It's probably just because we're trying to poison you."), suggested I might consider stopping the Taxol maintenance. I was speechless! (A rare occurrence.) So the next…

Hi, I am new to this site and I need advise ASAP. I was diagnosed and had surgergy for stage IV ovarian cancer in late Oct. 2008. I had 6 rounds of carbo and taxol and then 12 more rounds of continuation treatments of taxol. My CA 125 never dropped below 50 but my CT scans were NED and I did great with chemo except of very…

Going back into chemo Monday after 4 1/2 month break. Feel down.
I saw my chemo-oncologist this morning and it looks like I'm starting back on weekly taxol chemotherapy on Monday. We talked about the option of staying out of treatment for the summer and keeping a close watch on my CA-125 and doing another CT/PET if it rises sharply or if I have any physical symptoms. And we talked about…

Great news
HI everyone, I got some great news today from my doctor. I got results from my CA125 and it had gone down another 40 points. Not only am I rejoicing, but relieved that I am doing the right thing by taking a short chemo break. It feels so good to get good news for a change! The CA125 has consistently gone down since adding…

Before you decide....Taxol
Did you know that Taxol belongs to a class of chemotherapy drugs called plant alkaloids. Plant alkaloids are made from plants. The vinca alkaloids are made from the periwinkle plant (catharanthus rosea). The taxanes are made from the bark of the Pacific Yew tree (taxus). The vinca alkaloids and taxanes are also known as…

Looking for support
My name is Jacquie and I'm not sure how to use this site exactly. I'm in search of finding a network of others out there caring for their Mom's and going through this journey with them. I find it difficult at times to always keep up the positiveness. Sometimes, I just want to let myself be mad, because I'm so tired of this…

Cancer DOES have a sense of humor :)
Good Morning Ladies, On a lighter note, I'm compiling a list of humorous observations I've made while going thru this journey with OVCA. I guess it's one way of dealing with everything. Here are a couple: 1. Soon after being diagnosed, someone gave me a Teal bracelet that said, "CANCER SUCKS". The package that the bracelet…
