Introduction - Starting Chemo and Radiation
Recently found this site after searching endlessly for blogs and personal testimonials. I wish I would have discovers this earlier. I was diagnosed with SCC HPV16+ in October. On November 18th, I had surgery where they removed my right tonsil, a sliver of my tongue, part of my soft palate and did a reconstruction along…

Better already
I thought this might give a bit of hope: I had my last radiation session on Monday. 60 gy between my left tonsil and left ear, 51 gy to my neck and left jaw. Felt sick for the last two days, worst being yesterday, which really felt like a bad hangover. I felt sick, dizzy, weak and very sensitive to light and noise. Today,…

Teeth care vs gag reflex
I have another very important question that worries me a lot. I'm finishing my radiation treatment, and I'm very worried about teeth care. Had my teeth professionally cleaned and fixed before radiation. None extracted. Got some tray made, which I used until a week ago. Then, my neck started swelling on one side, to a point…

Late radiation effects, specially fibrosis
Hello again. I would really like to talk about late radiation effects. I tried to inform myself online as good as I could, searched the forum, asked my doctor (who mainly brushed it off by saying I shouldn't read too much) and I still can't decide what to think. I'm getting 60 Gy radiation to the tumour zone between my…

Newly diagnosed with HPV neck and throat cancer
Hi, Early December I was diagnosed with HPV neck cancer with a primary in the back of the tongue. After several weeks of scans and consults I start 35 days of radiation and 7 (weekly) treatments of low dose chemo on Monday 12/21. This is the current plan with no surgery and no feeding tube, and a curable prognosis. Not…

Energy Drinks?
I know it's a fancy question, but given the exhaustion that hits me now, towards the end of my radiation treatment, I wonder if it would be safe to have an energy drink now and then. I'm usually not a consumer of energy drinks. My intake has been limited to 1-2 times a year, mainly for the taste of certain brands. Given my…

6 week follow up after rad and chemo treatment
I finished up Proton radiation and chemo at MD Anderson on Oct 16 2020 for HPV T2 N1 M0 left side tonsel , back of tongue , and lymph node cancer. Yesterday I went to have my 6 weeks after CT scan done and the results did not come back as I expected. It showed that the left lymph node started out at 3.3 cm in diameter and…

Important new discovery
Seems some clever people have found two new salivary glands we didn't know we had. This would seem very relevent if you're just getting ready to start radiation. Make sure your doc is aware. How weird this happens right after my initial rad consult and right before I start. You can read the clever people stuff here:…

My Journey
So, I thought I'd start posting a blog as my treatment progresses. Maybe it will be of some help to those that find their way here in the future and regardless, it helps me to write about it. If you just got here, you can read re diagnosis and surgery in the 1st pargraph of the 1st post in the "Hello All" thread so i'll…

Recent Scan
I had a scan this week on Thursday it was a CT scan with dye of the neck, chest, and belly areas. Originally I thought it was just going to be a 6-month chest scan but while they are giving me the dye I am glad they scanned more areas to be sure. A Nurse called yesterday, Friday and it was great news. No cancer indications…
