Oxaliplatin put back into mix
Has anyone been taken off the Oxi and then put back on with success? Me CEA has been creeping up, so onc added Oxi to my latest infusion at a reduced dose. I previously had 13 infusions with the Oxi, then taken off for past six months to the neuropathy. If anyone has similar experience let me know. Peace!

Fingers getting brown?
I think my fingers are turning brown. Has this happened to anyone else? My skin is drier so I am wondering if it is just dead skin that needs to be sloughed off. I also got a brown spot on my forehead.

MD Anderson Clinical Trial Waitlist
I traveled to Houston, Texas over the holidays to see if MD Anderson had anything better to offer than my local clinic. I didn't like the idea of being on Folfiri "for the rest of my life or unitl it stopped working" as my doctor in Fargo told me. The CT scan showed growth in a few tumors in my lungs which was expected. It…

Help needed: Should we change chemo scheme now (from Folfox to Folfiri)?
I have the following situation: my moms primary oncologist recommends we stay the course, i.e. to continue with Folfox 4 but to add also on top Avastin after the CT scan results of January 4th. She believes the deterioration in the liver is not that big and that we shouldn’t get rid of a med so quickly (potentially because…

If I hadn't moved, I may be one of those affected. I couldn't believe these lines. Quote: But the memo also suggested cutting back on treatment to…

Paste for ostomy?
I was changing my ostomy bag yesterday and was thinking about how some people have such a hard time with having to replace the bag often. I replace mine once a week now. I was able to get 5 to 7 days out of them previously while I was using a wax ring but it would eventually lift and seep and burn my skin. Without the wax…

Pre- and post-operative CEA levels
I have noticed quite a few postings about CEA levels and thought some might be interested in this summary of a JAMA article on the topic: "In this cohort analysis of 1027 patients, the 3-year rate of recurrence-free survival (RFS) in patients with elevated preoperative CEA that normalized after surgery was similar to the…

An interesting issue--financial incentives for chemotherapy
I came accross this issue a while back when a local newspaper article suggested the "spread" between actual cost of IV chemotherapy and the reimbursement rate provided 10% of the budget of the cancer center where I receive treatment. This raises the very real issue of whether my oncologist has a financial incentive to…

Life on the high C's, 800 infusions
My wife has had 800 infusions of IV vitamin C over 7.7 years. This past year, we have mostly managed to skirt by on fewer infusions at higher dosage.
