New to all this
Hi! My name is Rosemari and I had a colon resection on January 30. I start chemo next Wednesday, 3/20. It is scary but reading through this discussion board, it seems you all have really good information to share. I am getting a port next week and hope I can do this with your guidance. Rosemari

Can't we all just get along? This is my acute observation of everyone's behavior!-UPDATE
Understandably so, but when someone passes you all get a little scrappy in your attitudes. Like kids coming out for a block fight in the first days of spring. Can't we treat each other with respect. If you feel a little pissy talk about it calmly or just lurk until the funk is over. I have witnessed the cancer tude. My…

Stop the madness
Pete you know I am into nutrition and exercise. However that is my choice. It is also my choice to do chemo and surgery when cancer becomes visible in my body. I appreciate all of the research you are doing but you are way to opinionated. We are supposed to be a community (I like to look at it as a family although a…

If you are a milk drinker, this IS frightening:
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/03/13/unlabeled-aspartame-use.aspx (I'm off for breakfast-walk to diner bit over a mile away- and enjoy milk with my unsweetened coffee and eggs with rye or whole wheat dry;might do glass of milk later or with whey protein in blender)

Ketogenic/glucose clarification
Ok, I first mentioned ketogenic diet to Pete a while ago, I also told him I had concerns with it as it didn't work for us, in fact we believe it made our son's tumour grow rapidly. I have posted this on the brain tumour board but people will do what people will do given the situation, who am I to say it wont work for them.…

Sometimes the Doc just has to listen....
So, I was at the Oncologists today. Doing the normal Chemo treatment. See the nuurse, weigh in, BP, review the blood test, blah blah. The Onc comes in and asks if everything is going OK. I tell her that this chemo (Folfiri w/Avastin) makes me exceptionally nauseated. It makes me run to the bathroom and lose it for the next…

I am concerned about the different phases of treatment,…

Here we go again...
Here we go again...seems like just yesterday that I began my first journey of chemo. Port placed and worried how I would handle the drugs. Well...with recurrence only months after ending the first round, more surgery and healing, now had another port placed and beginning treatment again in the morning. Hoping it goes a bit…

Pete Simmer Down! My goodness ...
how dare you request a board member (John) get off a message thread because he did not agree with you. I have read through many posts that you have written where you have put down everything from conventional treatment (that has saved lives) to health professionals (the majority of which are very well-intentioned) to the…

Got to vent, can't tell anyone yet.
I have been cancer free for 15 years. I had Colon Cancer when I was 36 years old. I had not been going to my annual exams as I should. The last 5 years I have been dealing with a lot of family issues. Today was my exam. I stayed awake through the exam as I usually do. The doctor and I saw the polyp at the same time. It was…

Vectibix
So for George last week Pet & CT are NED. However, Dr. swiched him from irinotecan & Xeloda to Vectibix and CEA went from 2.4 to 4.3. Dr. says dont worry but we worry. If in two weeks his CEA has anymore rise seems to me he should be back on Irinotecan. And how about Xeloda anyone just take that alone???

Just a test to see if a thread that has been opened by an originator can be DELETED by the originator... The Delete function seems to be missing since the upgrade. This is just a Test for Greta...so they can use this example post to troubleshoot from.

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) for restaging tumor after chemoradiation?
Hi! I'm fairly new here and was looking for feedback. I was dx'd on Dec 7th 2012 with colorectal cancer T3 N1 M0. (N is a guess on 1st EUS - as cannot be confirmed until post surgery). EUS is just like a colonoscopy but using ultrasound to measure the depth of the tumor. No drugs for the procedure, though :-( However, it…

Why I love Thomas, The Ketogenic Diet hits the headlines, even Mercola at last is promoting it
Dearest Friends, Please don't read this if life style interventions will cause you stress. Please read this if you are interested in life style interventions with regards to diet. Its a strange co-incidence that this article landed in my inbox the same day as my increased cancer marker, I am a making plans to do the full…

Please Read .. Petition for Colorectal Cancer !!!!!!!!
Hello, About 6 months ago I lost my uncle to colon cancer. He was diagnosed four months before the disease took his life. As a family we are trying to help save the lives of others. We need 100,000 people to sign this petition for our voices to be heard. There are about 102,480 new cases in 2013 that can result in as many…

I am so sad to hear about Buzz
When I first joined here it was 2009, I had just finished chemo and was scared out of my mind. I thought what if the chemo was the only thing keeping my cancer at bay? I am happy to say I was wrong. But Buzz was one of the first people to reach out to me and talk me off that ledge. Most of the people that helped me…

Update 3/10 on Doc_Hawk
I heard from Doc, and he is having a hard go of it. Last chemo had his oxygen level down in the 70's when it should have been in the 90's. They stopped it and then he got the remainder the next day. His weight loss seems to contribute to slow surgery recovery and loss of strength. His CEA is rising. Last was over 1600.…
