Radiation. Tell me all about it.
I'm so excited to have only four more chemo session on this round, but it also means that after a 3 week break, I head into the radiation/chemo and I have to admit, I am very, VERY anxious about it. I've read enough on here to scare me. I guess I feel like I'm going to suffer through every side effect out there. I'll be…

Feeling helpless I stumbled on this website. I am here to see what we have install for all of the family. They removed a soccer ball size tumor from her. It wrapped around her kidney and part of her colon. The kidney and part colon were removed as well as 13 lymph nodes. They don't know if they got them all yet. She went…

Update Folfiri + Zaltrap
Hi All, Just wanted to give an update on my Zaltrap experience. It's not as exciting as Pete's adventures in Germany but still worth a mention :-) I actually had to look at my profile to see when I started Zaltrap - I started in Oct 2012. I can't believe it's been that long! But that explains why I'm ready for a chemo…

Radiation for liver tumors?
It's been awhile since I've been on here and really miss the support. My husband was dx stage 4 in June 2011. He has been on chemo or radiation ever since. He had liver resection in November of 2011 and 5 months later new lesions showed up. He has been on FOLFIRI ever since. His most recent scans showed new liver lesions.…

scan results => Good News
Last post I was worried about upcoming scans. Context. I am 49 year-old male, Stage 4 CRC, diagnosed in June 2011. I originally underwent 11 treatments of Fofox/oxciliplatin before rising CEA levels prompted concern of cancer growth. Even though CT scans were showing all clear, my persistent onc (good thing) called for…

Worst Time Magazine Cover of the Year?
Worst Time Magazine Cover of the Year? As critiqued in “Slate” (very worthwhile reading): http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2013/03/how_to_cure_cancer_time_magazine_s_april_1_cover_is_wrong_and_cruel.html?wpisrc=most_viral Sometimes we get carried away with hope from the hype; with reality…

Imerman Angels
I read about Imerman Angels on this forum. Dixondukes mentioned it and I was intrigued. It is affiliated with Gilda's House and provides one-on-one cancer support from people who have had cancer and can provide support. I volunteered as a mentor. A rep from Imerman Angels called tonight to interview me. I was accepted but…

MOM'S DAY TWO
Hey forum people. I hope everyone is feeling better. My mom started her chemo 2 days ago (3,300 mg of Xeloday/day, Infusion of Oxalapatin and Tamoxifen). Yesterday she did not feel anything but this lunch time, she started to feel nauseous. She is trying not to take her anti-nausea med to check if she could tolerate it. I…

Anyone given the "5 year" speech?....
I'm just curious how many of the Stage 4 survivors were given the 5 year survival speech by their doctor?....More importantly, if you were, how long ago was it?....(pretty obvious where I'm going with this....)

Ready To SCREAM
Sorry I just wanted to start a post for anyone wanting to vent like I know I do. I always had the fear of my cancer returning and now that that fear has become reality i feel as if i might actually lose my mind this time. I had to have my port and liver pump flushed the other day and when the nurse stuck the needle in my…

O/T: Post what makes you happy
l . The "Pets" thread was fun, but it limited things to those who have pets (obviously). I thought this thread could be for posting whatever makes you happy... a place, a person, a meal, anything. Could be pics pulled from the Internet too, so those who don't want to post anything personal can still take part. I'm going to…

Ct scan in my future

I did have a series of X-rays 2 weeks ago...but nothing cancer-related found. I just have a little degenerative disease around a couple of the discs...basically i am…

"On The Road Again"
To quote one of my favorite singers. New port surgery went well. Just one glitch and it's not a new one. It appears that some nursing staff are not familiar with the particular heart device my hubby has. It is a "hybrid" unit which only fires on the top half. The bottom half only fires if he goes into V-fib, to restart the…

Andrew and anyone else who may be hesitant to post once treatments cease ...
Sometimes one might feel as Andrew stated in a previous post ... "I feel my poor prognosis does not help those who are still battling with this disease"... I have thought about this as well. I also sometimes wonder about the term survivor and the the other war-like military terms associated with a cancer diagnosis and…

Go visit nature
"Humans have enjoyed forest environments for ages because of the quiet atmosphere, beautiful scenery, mild climate, and fresh, clean air. In the present study, we found that visiting forest parks, but not a city, enhanced human natural killer (NK) activity, increased anti-cancer proteins, such as perforin, granzymes A and…

Treatment #4
Got treatment #4 yesterday. So far so good. Little nausea but bearable. Appetite is definitely down and the constipation is back! Hate that part. Even came in to work today wearing my fanny pack but might not last the whole day. Tomorrow I get unhooked and it's a work holiday so I don't have to burn a vacation day. Yeah!!!…

Chemo breaks
What is the criteria to go on a chemo break and how long is it usually for? I'm praying for a three month break but my CEA just rose. I'm just exhausted and would love a break.

Spleen embolisation
My spleen embolisation was successful. Platelets were up to 630 so I was able to get full dose of irrotecan. Had to skip one treatment while I was recovering. CEA doubled I was hoping for a chemo break. I've been doing this so long but guess that is not going to happen now.

To: Jen and Chels BUT Also for Everyone *** UPDATED ***
How's the world treating you two darlin's this morning? I've thought about both of you and after talking with Jen about the Coping Mag project, I was inspired to send them another story. (Jen, I wrote this one in only 1327 words, lol) In a way, the both of you intertwine for this post and I thought the 2nd story I sent…

He was only 39 at the time - collapsed due to abdominal pain. They did an emergenct hemicolectomy - and found that the cancer has spread thru the colon wall and into the…
