Finally posting a message
Well, enough lurking....This site has provided me with some entertainment and information for awhile...it's about time I let you know I'm here. I'm 41 years old and just received my 5 year all clear after a rough battle with Stage 3 rectal cancer. Had chemoradiation in NYC on the tumor before surgery....and had a complete…

A Theological Question
Sandra asked how we live with the fact that our cancer can rear its ugly little head again anytime it wants. In my case that is a distinct possibility as I have already had a recurrence. Some like to use the Las Vegas theory of playing the odds. If you are on the right side of the equation survival time increases. Others…

My husband had a colectomy 13 mo. ago w/no chemo afterward. 3 weeks ago he was diagnosed with a mass on his liver. PET Scan showed stage I w/no distant mets. 40% of the liver was resected two days ago. Now What? I think he should have chemo or something this time. What type of chemo? Glad to be here!!!!
I am new to the group. I am 38 and was diagnosed with rectal cancer last October. I had a port-a-cath installed in November and had chemo and radiation for 5 weeks. Then I rested for 4 weeks before having surgery to remove my tumor. I am so glad to be here or anywhere right now! I have a couple of questions for the…

Hair Loss
I have one treatment left of Oxali/5FU/LEV. I did not lose all my hair. but lost a lot, it's very thin. I thank God I started with a good head of hair. It's really not noticeable to people who don't know me. I was just wondering when I'll notice it getting back to normal. I haven't had a haircut since July and colored…

New
I have reading message boards and just thought I would put a short story about myself out there. I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in August of 2002. The first oncologist gave me 6-18 months. It has now been 18 months and am doing well I think. I have not had any surgery just chemo--oxaliplatin & 5FU. Last CT scan…

WHERE'S ARLENE?
Has anyone seen or heard from Arlene (fandaj)? According to my monitor, it's been almost a month since she's joined us here. Arlene - you out there? Don't make me send Squidbert and Patrick to find you! - SpongeBob

Test Done Today
Hi Folks! I've been sooooo busy, deliberately keeping my self that way. I've read through some of the posts and plugged my two-cents in. Lots of pretty good news on the board lately and I'm grateful to hear it. Well, today Bert had his combo PET/CAT scan to determine what these multiple lung nodules are...are they all…

I need some info
My Hubby as some of you will remember from my ramblings of days gone past has stage IV colon cancer met to liver and one lung and nodes. After three treatments (xeloda and oxliplatin) (never was good at spelling).. his cancer shrunk 50%. Now he is on treatment #6 today and in a couple of weeks we will do another CAT scan…

Hot weekend/Cold North
AH HA!! I bet you came here wanting all the *JUICY* details of my R&R weekend with my hottie..I mean...hubby!! Well what I WILL tell you is that we had so much fun, the cabin was cozy and charming with a woodstove (we have 3 at our farmhouse so nothing new but still cozy and romantic), a view of the lake and woods, and the…

Dumb question
Hi everyone! Okay, so I need some brutal honesty. Get into a 20-25 year old male mental state... Now, how would you view a girl with a bag. Honestly. At this point, all my close friends and family know about the colostomy bag (we even joke about it and my "man-made vagina"). However, I'm having a really hard time telling…

Help managing my gut?
Hi all, I'm busy gathering suggestions for how to manage my (thus far) infrequent bouts of diarrhea...just 1 or 2 a week following my 5FU and leuco, and Immodium stops it cold. BUT, I think I'm then stopped up for too long, and that seems to trigger another bout. Yesterday, my beloved smoothie seemed to set off another…

Welcome all New Semi-colons!!
So a few new members have had the courage to surface and join the club. WELCOME! We'd have you go through initiation rites but the zapping, the chemo, the bags attached to your gut, the diarhea, the scars complete the gauntlet. I was able to skip most of the gauntlet...went right to the scars...but they let me join anyway.…

Pet Scan
Hi everyone, I've only posted a few times, but each time the "semi-colons" have been a great help. I hope you can offer advice now, too. My mother was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in July 2003 (She had a small spot on her liver). She was only given 8 months to a year. She didn't see the use of going through heavy…

Hi from UK
Hi, just a hello really - I've been 'lurking' for a few months now, hesitant to contribute because this is a US group - but judging by the supportive tone of all the contributions here I don't expect to be spurned (but please don't correct my spellings!). I've had a right hemicolectomy, Dukes C1 (one node), and now I'm on…

A Very Happy Girl!!!!
Hi Everyone! Hmmmmm.... Debating, should I thank everyone for being such sweethearts or should I share the news? I guess I'll be kind and I won't keep you guys in suspense (as cancer survivors and caregivers, I think our lives have just about enough suspense!). And so, I marched into the office and read the reports myself…
