Biopsy on Friday - can I please request Pink Bus again
I feel like I am getting greedy about hogging the Pink Bus, but could I maybe at least request the Pink Pedicab on Friday? I have never had a liver biopsy and could use a hand to hold.

Valerie Harper
For those of you who remember the sitcom "Rhoda" in the 1970's . You might want to read the article on Valerie Harper which was sent to me by the MBCN. Valerie as many of you might have heard has lung cancer (never was a smoker either) and the cancer in 2012 spread. Now she has what is known leptomenigeal carcinoma. It's…

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow!
My first time with chemo, I didn't loose my hair. I prepared as advisedto do by my chemo nurse. I had a wig, a turban for sleep, shampoo and and a stand for my wig. I cut my hair short as recommended by my hairdresser and then nothing happened. My hair didn't grow but it didn't come out either. For 6 months, it remained…

completely lost in a medical circus
My baby sis (57) was diagnosed with stage 3 b or c Dec 2012 and in her rush for treatment, she hastily chose mastectomy without chemo prior to surgery. She was concerned about the cancer but also about the insurance deductibles going up in January 2013. After mastectomy she had complications whereas she woke up with an eye…

Stubborn cough!
8 years out with Ned and hoping to stay that way. But I'll tell you, I have had somthing hit me. Started 1st week of February, sore , red throat...some drainage, no big deal as I've had that before. By the end of the 3rd week with no relief in sight, went to the CVS "Minute clinic" where I saw a nurse practitioner. Gave me…

Musings on a Cloudy Day...Mental Health
Listening to many here has made me so very aware that there needs to be a new diagnosis for the mental health issues that so many of us suffer. PTSD just doesn't cut it, in my opinion, because the stressors unique to a cancer survivor are not necessarily POST anything. I am living proof here. And I know I am mental now.…

Maximum time between finishing chemo and having surgery
My wife was diagnosed with stage 2 grade 3 IDC and completed 4 round of A/C followed by 4 rounds of Taxol. Her tumors shrunk by over 50% and the one lymph node which showed up as affected on the ultrsound has returned to normal size. She was scheduled to have a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction at her 6 week mark…

Capsular Contracture
Its been one year since I had a bi-lateral mastectomy with reconstruction with expanders and then saline implants. Now I've been diagnosed with capsular contracture and am being told that I only have two options - go to a pain management doctor and try to deal with the pain or just have the implants removed for good. I've…

Mother diagnosed with Colon and Breast all at the same time
Hi. My mother was recently diagnosed with colon and breast cancer. She is turning 67 this April and will start her chemo as soon as she heals from her colon resection. Her medical oncologist will put her to Tamoxifen for the breast and Xeloda for the colon. I would like to know the side effects for these 2 medications if…

Breast Reconstruction ongoing Nightmare!
Hello everybody, Approximately a year ago after about six months or so of receiving radiation, I got a lengthy text from a friend about this wonderful dr. that did her surgery for breast reconstruction. She went on and on about how wonderful he was and how the surgery had helped her self image tremendously. I, of…

UTI Question?
I had a very slight temperature for chemo (Taxol) and it was slight. The next day it started to rise and though in the real world, I would have dismissed it with two Tylenols, not the case in the chemo world. I was told to call if my temperature ever went to 100.4, I called at 100.6 after taking a couple of Tylenols. The…

What helped you during radiation?
Hello. I was lurking about to find some info. Maybe this will also help others later. I had 4 rounds of chemo, mastectomy, another 3 rounds of taxol, and now two weeks into radiation. Like I need any more side effects, but here we go. I have dealt with everything head on, even with a smile, but was dreading radiation. I…

Want Your Opinion -- Treatment by Guideline?
Dear all, At last week's visit with my med. oncologist prior to my last chemo session, I asked her about follow-up care. Herceptin (Trastuzumab) for Breast Cancer Linked to CNS Metastases
During the past decade it has been frequently observed that patients with breast cancer treated with a taxane-containing chemotherapy regimen, either in the adjuvant setting or in the metastatic setting, presenting central nervous system (CNS) involvement as the only evidence of disease progression. More studies were…

Started Taxol
This past Tuesday, I started the first of 4 taxols. Was tired after, but couldn't sleep even with sleeping pills. But yesterday, I started to feel like I was hit by a Mac truck. It's hard to take a deep breath in. I'm trying the tylenol first, if that doesn't work, will do Ibprophen. Then on to Vicodin. Are these side…

Me Myself and ER *NEWS*
So I had the xray yesterday. My primary doctor called and said I need to see the pulmonologist (at the very least). A new opacity is found in the right side lung as compared to the last xray (in September). She said it can't be pneumonia because I don't have fever and chills or overall sickly feelings. Her thoughts were…

Tamoxifen & severe hip pain
I am nearing the one year mark of the cancer diagnosis. Following a masectomy and 6 rounds of chemo,( taxotere and cytoxan followed by Neulasta injections), I am left with incredible bone pain. I think it's entirely possible that the pain is from the Tamoxifen. The worst pain is in my hip, although I've been told it's…

New Stuff for me.
Well I bought a bike. I first got one from Walmart. It was a 26" Schwinn 7 Speed Cruiser bike. Well it was too big for me and I fell off the bike into the yard, just getting on it. Bruised me up but I still wanted a bike. I took that bike back and started hunting for a local bike shop. I also did a lot of research online…

231 new liver lesions, but who's counting anyway?!
Here are PET scan results: 231 numerous new hyperbolic lesions throughout the liver compatible with metastatic disease. There are two hypermetabolic foci either in or adjacent to the pancreas. CT abdomen and pelvis with IV contrast recommended. Not the news we were hoping for. But, if I need to find something to laugh…

Circulating Tumor DNA Detects Metastatic Breast Cancer
Circulating cell-free DNA carrying tumor-specific alterations (circulating tumor DNA) is more effective at monitoring metastatic breast cancer than current biomarkers approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and circulating tumor cells, according to a proof-of-concept study. The study, led by Sarah-Jane Dawson, PhD,…
