Full hysterectomy and epidurals
It looks like I might be headed for a full hysterectomy soon but because of heart damage from prior chemo drugs etc. they won't let me have a general anaesthetic so are suggesting an epidural. Has anyone here had a full hysterectormy with an epidural? How was it? Thanks.

Eating Yogurt
I am having the hardest time gaining weight, because I cannot eat the minimum about of calories or proteins. I saw my nutritionist today, and she told me I needed to eat more protein. I do not eat any red or white meat, dairy or processed sugar. So, that includes yogurt. Does anyone of you eat organic Greek yogurt? My…

Hi everyone, I just registered and have not done the "about me" page yet. Just thought I would say hello. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer last december and had a robotic hysterectomy with no further treatment since they thought they got it all. Unfortunately it has come back and I now I have three large tumors in my…

Port Pain...
I just had a Powerport put in last Tuesday, followed by three rounds of chemo and it worked fabulous, however, I continue to have pain where the cathedar was inserted. It feels like a burn or pulling when I stretch my neck and sometimes when I turn my head, but it's not every time and there is no pain at all where the…

Taking a break from the boards
I've decided that I have been spending way too much time here. Mostly, it's because I've made such terrific friends, people I don't really have to explain myself to. However, I've been obsessive about my reading and posting, and I have been avoiding so much of the rest of my life. That being said, I will be making an…

Heparin flush for port--maybe not a good idea?
I posted this on the ovarian cancer discussion board and thought this board might be interested in this information: Information about heparin promoting neoangiogenesis (the growth of new blood vessels) is in the Aug/Sept 2011 issue of the Townsend Letter. The article is all about how WONDERFUL heparin and something called…

27 y/o with endometrial cancer -help
I was recently diagnosed with papillary adenocarcinoma - probable endometroid type. I am 27 and I do not have kids yet. I have not yet spoken to an oncologist about this diagnoses and what It means. All I know is that this cancer is treated with a hysterectomy and I am crushed by the idea of not being able to have children…

Good results from today's checkup
Today, I had my six-month checkup with my gyne-onc. It has been two years and ten months since I finished six rounds of carbo/taxol and brachytherapy for Stage 1a UPSC, and my doctor said everything looks great. I was terrified for weeks before this appointment, so I am happy to report these results. Love to all, Jill

Overview of the management of stage 1 UPSC
I found this article today and thought it provided an excellent overview of the treatment protocols and outcome for women with Stage 1 UPSC: The link is: http://www.isrn.com/journals/obgyn/2011/146264/

Special questions for a "second opinion"?
Dear all, Tomorrow morning I have my appointment with another gyn-onc at a completely different cancer center. I'm realizing now (belatedly) that I need to formulate some questions to ask--and I could use your help. I think I want to know his basic approach to treatment & to working with patients, first. One of my biggest…

The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen –Nourishing, Big-Flavor Recipes for Cancer Treatment and Recovery
A cookbook and beyond. There is one section devoted to side effects of chemo and radiation with a list that includes first a reference to what you may be experiencing, such as anemia, fatigue, neutropenia, sore mouth and difficulty swallowing, weight loss, followed by a category, say soups, protein building foods, veggies,…

Will blood counts ever rise after last treatment?
Did any of you experience, after six rounds of taxol/carbo and radiation treatments, serious drops in your blood counts? If so, did they eventually rise again? And did you need to take iron in order to recover? It's ironic that I got through all the treatment with very few side effects. Was fine through first three rounds…

Ginger, Beta-Carotene, and Anti-Fungals
Thanks, Jill, for starting to gather all the pertinent information on foods' anti-cancer properties. A huge job, but invaluable to us! Having read through the responses to her first posting on ginger, would like to add the following: I'm a firm believer in the efficacy of ginger. Years ago, a very annoying tremor in my…

Genetic Counseling/Testing
Has anyone here had genetic counseling or testing? I am scheduled to start this in a couple of weeks and find it appalling how little I know about my ancestors' health. I guess it is typical because back then, people were very secretive. A cousin of mine who is our family's genealogist has been helping me - he knows how to…

signs of recurrence
Hi all, I'm basically new to this board, and apologize if this has been discussed already. I'm diagnosed with UPSC, stage 1 or 2, to my oncologists best judgement. No lymph nodes were sampled, but scans are clear and nothing detected in pelvic wash. When my hysterectomy was performed,(including the fallopian tubes and…

September
I just learned that September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness month. I haven't seen anything on TV, haven't seen everyone and his/her brother wearing teal or peach ribbons, haven't heard nor seen a peep about it. I was at the market this afternoon and there was that stupid wine display with the pink ribbon, tho! I am very…

Soooo.....Dumb question number one....HAIR
I've been encouraged to ask questions. even dumb ones, so here we go. I am currently about 16 days past my first round of chemo and my hair is falling out. It seems that most women shave their head when they start losing their hair but I am being bullheaded about it and it has nothing to do with being able to create hair…

Dietary Approaches to Fighting Cancer
GINGER I thought it might be helpful to have one thread for all of the research that has been completed looking at the impact of various foods and herbs on cancer cells. I am going to start with the article below and then take my time going through all the posts and move the food-related ones here. By clearly marking this…
