Did you know you could get the 123 scan but stop and go to surgery ?
I heard that if the diagnostic 123 scan shows quite a few nodes lighting up, you will be asked if want surgery first and the 131 dose won't be given. That was surprising because you'd think that by ultrasound and other studies your docs would know how much tumor is still there. Have any of you been advised after the 123…

Confusion about red dye on Canada thyroid list
This list http://www.thyroidcancercanada.org/userfiles/files/LID_English_Aug_2011.pdf is not consistent. It mentions Red #4 as forbidden, but then indicates to avoid all red dye. I've had popsicles and jello with red 40, not 4. Am I screwed ? Anyone have the complete list of forbidden dyes ? Why are they forbidden ?

Swollen lymph nodes
I was diagnosed with hurthle cell carcinoma on Sept 7, 2011 and was scheduled to have a complete thyroidectomy Sept 28. Well I had an ultrasound on Sept 20 and it came back with 3 nodes being suspicious/enlarged. So that has delayed my surgery until Oct 5. I am having a biopsy on the 3 nodes today to see if they may be…

So is the low iodine diet worse than rai ?????????????
Saw this in another website..... there are so many complaints about the low iodine diet and how it "sucks". But it looks okay to me. Will see when it starts. Seems people think it is worse than rai. So really, are most people having no symptoms from the rai ? I hate nausea. Haven't had nausea in 30 years.

Thyca and your employer
It's been a while since I have been on these boards. I was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma follicular variant in November 2010. I had a TT a week after diagnosis and I am just now getting ready to do my ablation RAI treatment. Why you ask? Well, a bunch of incidents that just lead to this! I requested a 2nd opinion…

Normal to not have hormone therapy after TT?
This is all moving so fast. Saw an Endo for the first time two weeks ago, ultra sound that day, biopsy two days later, pre-surgery consult yesterday and surgery scheduled for Oct. 5th. They are going to do a total thyroidectomy. My question is....is it normal to not see an Endo until a month after surgery? What about…

Scared and Confused...metastasized to my lung...
I'm 38 years old and I just found out yesterday that my thyroid cancer metastasized to my lungs...again. Really I don't even know if the RAI treatment helped from the last time (Feb 2010), I'm scared and don't know what to do. My doctor seems as if they are clueless on what to do or what's really going on. I feel that I…

Radio iodine dose seems way high
My two docs are thinking I should have a whopping 150 to 175 of radio iodine because I had pap cancer in both thyroid lobes and in some lymph nodes nearby which were removed. My neck ultrasound is normal show all nodes under 0.7 cm and my thyroid is gone. Several docs cannot feel any nodes. Okay, so I'm a man and over 55,…

I am in the preparation stage for RAI at the end of the month. I am now off all thyroid medicine and on a low iodine diet for three days. Lessons Learned? Papillary Cancer
I found out that I have papillary cancer late Friday. I am just diving into finding out what all this means for me, but I wanted to ask those that have been there for a little advice or "lessons learned" or "wish I would have done that from the begining". They are going to do another ultrasound this week to see if they can…

Hearing that people could have ptc for five to twenty years before they are diagnosed and treated, one wonders---- has the "TT" and rai and subsequent surgeries and rai's have extended lifespans ? Are the total treatments worse than the disease ?

i was diagnosed with pap thyroid cancer almost 2months ago and am scheduled 2 months from now ... so
from diagnosis to surgery.. is this normal? others i spoke to had theirs out with in a few weeks of the diagnosis. I don't understand why it has to be such a long wait. i was told it's because they think i've had it for some time so they are in no rush to remove it. and since it's papillary they are not concerned.... i am!
