Question about taking cytomel twice a day prior to RAI
I just completed my 2nd surgery less than a week ago. My first was not originally for cancer-it was for Hashimoto's. It was a partial lobectomy in April. This surgery was a total neck dissection and removing the rest of the thyroid. I was put on generic Cytomel to prepare for RAI. I was instructed to sleep sitting up to…

Total Thyroidectomy 7/17/09 - Very Sick
Hi all. I just had a TT last Friday, 7/17/09, and my surgery went okay, although the recovery is really blasting me. Since Saturday of last week when I returned home, I hardly have the energy to perform any tasks at all. Perhaps I'm taking things to quickly though. My neck does not hurt, it was my throat from the tube they…

I know this may sound stupid... but it's very important to me...
I know this may sound stupid... but I have severe issues with needles. I'm okay for blood draws and IV's but nothing else... The 'biopsy' they did to diagnose me was done during surgery for this reason. Instead of doing a typical needle biopsy... they did a 'freeze scan' (I believe that's what they called it) and took a…

What caused your thyroid cancer?
I don't see or hear much discussion about the causes--suspected or actual--of our thyroid cancers. When mine was first diagnosed I read that exposure to radiation was the main suspect but the studies weren't very conclusive. That was almost 4 years ago so there may be more recent studies that point in other directions but…

Just had surgery...recovery a lot worse than I expected
Hi, everyone. I had a total thyroidectomy this last Thursday. Stayed overnight in the hospital, now home. I guess with all my research, I thought that I'd have this simple surgery, rest for a few days and be back to my normal life. Well, it's been 3 days now. I'm still in bed, achy all over. Want to be out of bed, but it's…

Surgery scheduled next Thursday...lots of questions!
Hi, everyone. Went to the ENT yesterday, and they got me in for surgery next Thursday. I'm so relieved it's so soon. I have a few questions from all you experienced survivors! The surgeon said that he will take out the right side of my thyroid where the nodule is and confirm if it's cancer or not (the biopsy was positive…

Pazopanib Clinical Trial--very good results so far
I just returned from the Mayo Clinic where I got some very good news re: lab and scan results. My Tg level is down to 125, from a high of 1225, then 333, now 125. That's quite an improvement for seven weeks of therapy, including one week off recovering from the side effects of the drug. Scan reports were all positive, too.…

what is our "color"?
My aunt called me today and asked what color ribbon is for thyroid cancer? I keep finding different answers... a tri-color (pink, teal, blue/purple), light blue, purple... I think she is planning on making some ribbons for our family to wear so i'd like to get it right :)
