Topotecan
Has anyone had some good success with Topetecan? I was doing well on the Doxil and then the cancer got smart to it and it stopped working for me. I had 1 treatment of Topotecan but my blood levels were too low for a second treatment. In the meantime I got an obstruction in my bowels and just spent 5 days in the hospital…

Doxil - my first round
Well I have now completed my first round of Doxil (Caelyx in Australia) and had my second treatment today. Having had 3 x CA125 tests increase 21 to 209 to 360 to 459 (the last being 6 days after my first infusion!!!) - 5th to 24th September - I was delighted that my result this week, at the end of the 4 weeks from…

Does anyone else receive a visit summary each visit?
A few months ago my clinic started requiring that they give each patient a visit summary (beginning with the first visit ever made there) at each visit. This seems like a waste of paper to me. If you give 5 days in a row, you receive the same thing. They didn't give me one when I went for lab work Monday. I received one in…

CA 125 and follow up
I went to see my surgeon for my regular follow up today. Exam was normal, but my CA 125 keeps rising. It was 24 last time and 30 today. It's been slowly but consistently increasing by a couple of points for the last year. It's never been below 14, but I was pretty comfortable with it in the low 20s. The upward trend is…

Husband a hinder
I know this is a very personal topic. My husband is an alcoholic although not sure if he would agree with me. I am concerned because I will need him in the coming months if not years a head. I really care for him, even love him; however, I was thinking strongly about leaving him before my diagnosis. Now I feel that I can…

Has anyone appealed to their insurance company to cover out of network?
Hi Ladies, I called my insurance company this afternoon. Since there are no GYN/ONC within my network I can write a letter of appeal. In my area there are four GYN/ONC, but they are all with one clinic, out of my network. I had to go nearly 150 miles for surgery last year. I have seen an medical oncologist for over a year…

Are NED and remission the same thing?
Last year my doctor said I as in complete remission. (lasted about 9 months) Anyway, I see several of you refer to yourself as NED. Is there a difference? I finally learned what NED stands for. :) Took a while though. Thanks, Carla

Lovely Day
I had a great day yesterday with one of my long-time friends. We attended the Pumpkin Festival in Half Moon Bay. It is our second year. The previous year she asked me to go but I had just finished treatment and had spent five days in the hospital. The weather was rainy and I didn't feel up to it. I still feel badly that…

Proud Mommy bragging
This has nothing to do with my ovarian cancer. This is just one of those moments I will treasure forever..... Yesterday Tyler had a cross country invitational at Seneca Park....He came in 25th out of almost 200... His shoe lace came loose and his sneaker was starting to flop and slow him down so he kicked his shoe off and…

Hi everyone - I stumbled across this board while searching online for any kind of information for my 56 year old sister who was recently diagnosed with OC. The questions I have been afraid to ask
Is there a point when an Ovarian Cancer patient can say they are in the clear? You hear all the time "I made it to my 5 years". Is there a time frame for Ovarian Cancer? Does everyone get it back after they are in remission? What exactly is remission mean? Do you still have cancer when you are in remission? I am looking…

My new favorite beverage?
Prune Juice! Hooray for Prune Juice! Yeah, I took that nasty cistplatin/taxol Monday. I rarely have trouble with constipation. (with IBS, it's diarrhea for me usually, ugh) Anyway, my sister got me some prune juice this afternoon. I feel SO much better. Oh, the simple pleasures of life. LOL! Sometimes you just gotta laugh…

Nightmare
As my surgery area feel better I seem to cry more now because I am scared. I was told I can say anything on here that I am feeling. Well, on a positive not I pooped this morning without the help of a laxative. Yea! On the other hand, what scares me the most about ovarian cancer is how often it returns. Is there any hope…

Natural/Homeopathic remedies for menopause
The back story. I am 34 years old. Diagnosed with ovarian cancer 1C November 2011. 2 rounds of carbo/taxol and 4 round of carbo/taxotere. I have been out of sorts since my diagnosis, hormonally speaking. I just assumed it was the chemo but I'm 6 months out now and I still don't feel right. Hot flashes, irritability, and…

Cytoxen put me in the hospital
I don't know how many of you read my post about the extra chemo treatment they were giving me called cytoxen. The point of it was to wipe out my bone marrow to make room for stem cells since my first stem cell collection didn't go so well. The Dr said that its not very strong at all and they use it on about half of their…

Weird CA-125 stuff
Hi Ladies, My CA-125 in May was 9. A lymph node lit up on the pet scan. A needle biopsy confirmed cancer. When it was surgically removed in July it was confirmed to be ovarian. After one round of cistplatin/taxol it was 50.3 at the end of August. End of September it was 31.9. Obviously it fell, but I'm really scared since…

update from Mwee
Hi Loves... My brother is failing quickly from his pancreatic cancer and I've been trying to support my poor sister-in-law. She is doing such a wonderful job being with him 24/7 and trying to keep him comfortable. My ONC has given me extra time off from my chemo regiment so I've been feeling pretty strong. I have my next…
