update
I just had my 3rd chemo yesterday, since having my 3rd debulk surgery on August 31st. My doctor's comment after surgery was, "I thought this was going to be palliative, and I am very pleased to say we wre able to remove all visible tumors. There is 5% we need to rely on the chemo to get." I did have a couple chemo assays…

To have surgery or Not??
My mother was diagnosed in September with Stage IV. She has gone through 3 rounds of carbo/taxol and her CA125 went from 625 to 111. Her oncologist has suggested the debulking surgergy but some of our family members think the surgery will be too hard on her. She is 70, in great health other than the OV cancer but she is…

New to this board
Hello. I normally post on the caregiver (to my late husband) or the thyroid (I have this type of cancer) board. I had a PET scan this week (to try and find why my blood levels for the thyroid were elevated, but nothing showed on the ultrasound or body scan) and it showed uptake to my left ovary. I am worried. Can anyone…

At the end of Sep my marker went up again and is now at 350 even tho the Pet and CT scans still show nothing. I…

Taking platelets tomorrow. Kinda scared.
What should I expect from the platelet transfusion? Any side effects? The NP said other than sleepiness from the Benadryl there are no side effects generally. I like to hear from those who have experienced these things :) Thanks ladies! Carla

Avastin/Cytoxan
My mother was diagnosed with stage 3C epithelial ovarian cancer in October 2010. After optimal debulking, she was treated with 6 rounds (3 ip/3 iv) of carbo/taxol. She recurred about 7 months later and was treated with 6 rounds of carbo/gemcitabine. She recurred again this August (based on steadily rising CA-125)and has…

An excerpt from the book “Embrace, Release, Heal,” from an interview with Abram Hoffer, MD, PhD, a specialist in orthomolecular therapy (OMT) (treating with vitamins and nutrients). “…Dr. Hoffer was glad to report that there is a growing international movement to study and use OMT. good news re: Nov. 10th surgery - prayers DO work!!!!!
Just to let you sweet sisters know that my surgeon Dr. Barakat called today to say that he feels the surgery scheduled for Nov. 10th does not need to be major open up serious as he had originally thought but can be done laproscopically (!) because the nasty tumor is so tiny and isolated with no spread - this would mean…

Cabozantinib (XL184) clinical trial
Thanks to Greg (gdpawel), I found this promising targeted therapy phase II clinical trial (identifier number NCT00940225) which may be of interest to some OVCA survivors who have had their second recurrence. I am not eligible because the inclusion criteria requires that the subject has failed on their second line of chemo…

Since your diagnosis, what are some things you thought you would never hear? Let's have some humor
I NEVER thought I would have a dr. tell me to not lose any more weight. I never thought I would have a doctor describe me as thin. And finally, one day at chemo I couldn't get the recliner the rest of the way back up. The chemo nurse said " you don't weigh enough to push it down." I know it was just because I was so tired…

Doctor Ordered CT Scan After CA 125 Went Up
After my first round of chemo, my CA 125 went up from 170 to 446. They retested me a week later and it went down to 369. I just met with my oncologist on Monday and she is concerned as to why it went up, because she felt like I was too far out from my TAH surgery for that to have influenced the numbers and I hadn't been…

My dear wife, Cindy, was in remission for 11 month and the monster came back while on Taxol maintenance. She is now taking Carbo, Gemzar, and Avastin, assuming she gets back in remission, is there a chance her next remission could last longer? Any ladies out there with a similar experience? Treatment 3 and 6?
I had my hardest time after treatment number 3. I was sick some, only time I had to take anti-nausea meds. I took #6 last Tuesday (25th). I just got really sick again. I haven't felt great since the treatment. Chemo is SO strange. Wonder why some treatments hit us harder than others? I know one thing, there is NO ONE who…
