After Chemo Joint and Muscle Pain
I am experiencing a lot of joint and muscle pain after my sixth round of chemo (Taxotere and Carbo). Does anyone have any tips on what will help with this? I am trying to exercise, but honestly it's hard when you feel like a walking Frankenstein. The pain is mostly in my back and hips. I know this is a common side effect,…

Chemo cancelled again due to low platelets
Went in for my 6th chemo this morning and got canceled because of low platelets and another count that determines ability to fight off infection. Will try again next week. This happened for my 5th chemo also and after a week my platelets rose from 63,000 to 265,000. Hope this happens again. I'm so down because my initial…

Avastin & ca125
Still waiting for a response from my doc in NYC but I read this on another board: "I read somewhere that if you are on Avastin, CA 125 number may not be the best indicator of how you are doing. Is it true? if so, does CA 125 stay elevated even if you are making a progress or does it stay low even if there is no clear…

tough week
Hi dear hearts... I've had one of those very tough weeks. The carbo/gemzar hit me especially hard and I've not even been able to respond to posts. I don't understand my body's different reaction from one infusion to another of the same combo. I'm upright this AM for the first in a week, but I can't even fathom that I'm…

What do people usually have CT scans or PET/CT scans
I've been reading alot of discussions where people go for CT/PET scans. When my gyn/onc sent me for a scan he always did a PET/CT because he said it was a better tool. Now I go to MSKCC and they only seem to do CT scans. Has anyone gone to MSKCC and had a PET/CT scan? Do any of you feel it is a better tool for diagnosing…

Did you know anyone with Ovarian Cancer, BC?
Until I was diagnosed and began to reach out for a connection with other women who were battling ovarian cancer, I had never met one single person who had, or had had, the disease. My neighbor was recently diagnosed, but except for her, the only OC patients I know are still those I've met because of my own diagnosis. How…

Dear Carlene, Nancy, Linda, Sharon,Leesa, Colleen, and Teal Sisters,
I have been reading and posting, mostly reading and learning from all of you, since I joined in September. Carlene, you just posted a quotation from another OC post about the anatomy of hope that was inspirational for me, thank you! If you don't mind, I would like to know more about some of the other boards, discussion…

The Anatomy of Hope.....from another poster, another OC board
"Each disease is uncertain in its outcome, and within the uncertainty, we find real hope, because cancer has not always read the textbook. This is the great paradox of true hope: Because nothing has been absolutely determined, there is not only reason to fear but also reason to hope. And so we must find ways to bridle fear…

Doxil and PARP Inhibitator Clinical Trial
Hi, has anyone actually be selected for the PARP inhibitator part of the Doxil and PARP inhibitator clinical trial. Everything I've been reading is that people have signed up for this trial but were given the Doxil. So, if anyone has had the PARP portion of the trial, anything you could share with me would be helpful.…

Nutrition vs. Cancer
Here is some food for thought. My brother told he me he has listened to this on late night talk radio on how cancer cannot live in a body with a high alkaline level. Here is the link http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/cancerselftreatment.htm Here is a tidbit of the webpage. Cancer and pH To understand why some tissues in the…

They're driving me CRAAAAAZY!!! - UPDATE
Just when I thought everything was all worked out, I get an email from Dr Sabbatini's NP. It says she has scheduled a CT scan for me on Feb 1st, the day before I get my first treatment. I email her right back....No, I had a CT scan done here just two weeks ago, at the suggestion of the trial nurse, and hand-carried both…

Is it possible to have OVCA with no palpable mass via pelvic exam?
Hello, I am a 47 year old bc survivor 2 years, and presently have most all symptoms of ovca. Today I went for a pelvic exam due to symptoms ( I only have one ovary and fallopian tube remaining-right ovary removed due to torsion, then later same year had hysterctomy (uterus and cervix removed) ). Gyn stated my ovary felt of…

Dear Lisa 13Q, Your reply to Linda helped me.
I know that your reply was to Linda, but I wanted you to know that I have taken it to heart for myself. Thank you for saying "..I'm not trying to minimize here, but this disease has a way of taking over when it truly hasn't taken over. Let's say, though, for the sake of argument that it's what you say, ok, well…

other lab values?
Does anybody else monitor other labs besides the ca125 and WBCs? My AST and ALT are both elevated. Probably liver inflammation. This is the first time those levels have been elevated since starting chemo in 2008. Wondering if anyone else has the same problem from the chemo? I haven't spoke with the doc about it as I am…

I don't know how to support my mom
My mom is losing her second battle with ovarian cancer. Doctors have told her that she has, at best, a few months left. Her CA125 levels keep going up, despite aggressive chemo. I don't know what to say to her... She's scared and she keeps telling me that she's not ready to leave the earth. I have no idea what words to…

Getting back into life
I started feeling sick around this time last year. I was sick all through February, went to the doctor on 2/26 and finally received my diagnosis on 3/16. After that the time was filled with doctors appointments, treatments and feeling sick (you know the drill). I feel like I really missed nine months of last year. I missed…

Has anyone had to be on a blood thinner while being on Avastin
I'm presently on Avastin/Cytoxan. Last January, during my 3rd ovarian cancer surgery, I developed a small blood clot in my lung. The doctor immediately put me on a blood thinner and when I was released, I was put on Coumadin. I thought I would have gotten off of the blood thinner by now, but since I started on Avastin, the…

I'm in real trouble now: CA125 almost doubled even though I've been getting carbo chemo. :(
I have that 'beginning of the end' feeling; maybe I'm just shell-shocked. I went this morning for my every-Thursday labs/doctor visit/fractionated carbotaxol chemo. Only this morning when I met with my chemo-onc, his opening words were "I'm not happy." Seems my CA125 jumped up from 330 to 450 to 712 on the last 3 weekly…

Mom's CA 125
My mom's ca125 is at 89 after having 7 infusions of carbo/taxol. Not sure what this means? If chemo is successful do you always reach NED or a CA 125 of 35 or below? She was suppossed to get 8 infusions and because of such terrible neuropathy in her feet gyn/onc decided not to do the last infusion. She's in so much pain…

I'm in....for better or worse
I had my last Taxol infusion today and a long heart-to-heart with my doctor. He strongly encouraged me to take advantage of the vaccine trial I was offered at MSK. Getting into the MIMOSA trial is a long shot. They may not recruit new people. They may stick with the criteria that excludes anyone more than 8 weeks out of…
