Swelling in neck/clavicle following radical nephrectomy
Hi everyone, My stepmother recently had a radical nephrectomy to remove what the consultant originally believed to be a large tumour but contained to one kidney. Fairly sure it must have been at least a stage 3. Following the surgery (4 weeks ago) my stepmother has had terrible pain in both her back and now her tummy, the…

I'm feeling great (getting tired of the Oregon rain this winter;-)) and doing everything that my artificial knees allow me to do! Well,…

Here's a switch: Freaking out the physician(s)
Before I had my surgery, I realized that the copy of my Advance Directive that most of my regular medical team had was -- oops -- just a tad out-of-date. As in, the people they were encouraged to chat with, should the need arise, had already gone on to their rewards (I'd encourage you to pause here and look on YouTube for…

Good News for all at Coffee this morning
We call ourselves the Bakery Family, because that's where we see one another...or all at the same time. If one is there, the next one joins in. Kathy had good results on her follow up CT scan for lung cancer treatment, which she has been undergoing for a year. Letha (age 84) had skin cancers on her scalp removed a week…

My Partial Nephrectomy Too Complex for da Vinci?
Scheduled for an OPEN left partial nephrectomy for a 4cm renal cell carcinoma in a few weeks. Really like my urologist. He is very skilled surgeon, listens to my questions and has a great bedside manor. He is telling me that he recommends that I have an open procedure instead of robotic because of the complexity of the…

Scans Tomorrow
My quarterly scans are coming up tomorrow. These days I get my results a week after, but not this time because I have a business trip that came up next week. This business trip is going to put me right back where I was 4 1/2 years ago when my first tumor was found. I'm even staying at the same hotel. I did that on purpose.…

Single Kidney Long Term
To all of you long term nephrectomees... I am very curious to know how your single kidney function has held up over time. Does it hold steady or decline slowly? I always assumed, and I think it is a common assumption, that people get along just fine with only one kidney and it is just as though they had never lost or…

lifetime of fun
I have access to my medical records through the "My Chart" online system. It eliminates the need of getting copies of everything as it is available on line. However, something truely mind boggling became apparent. I can not always remember all my treatments, results of tests, chronological order of my care, and more. Part…

Funny story...related to nephrectomy
I have had a bug for the last week or so. Tuesday of last week, I woke up in agony: extreme pain on my right side. So, I went to the local ER. Since I did not think it was cardiac (wrong location), I chose the hospital based on the ER wait. In the hospital, they did some tests and a CT scan to make sure there were no…

Sitting here in the hospital
Well, we are sitting here after surgery and the surgeon said everything went perfectly. Am I worrying too much about something that he said? He said that they couldn't tell for sure if it was contained within the capsule. That only a pathologist can tell for sure. He even had the pathogist come into the OR. He said if…

I'm CRash.
52 year old dude. Last year, I too pissed blood. No other symptoms. My tumor on my left kidney was as big as an eggplant, when they cut it out. 9 months and 3 scans later, just learning to live before it's too late. Definitely a wake up call. i live in the southeastern US.
