Happy New Year to All...and a Resolution Revolution.
Well, once again a new year rolls around, and once again I start thinking about the resolutions I would like to achieve in the coming months. In the past, I’ve been in the habit of making resolutions that are impossible to achieve, so this year, with the hope of reducing the degree of soul-crushing disappointment I…

“Society’s Perception or Misconception on the Image of What Cancer Really Represents?”
In the midst of a hectic schedule and all of the associated mayhem I’ve found myself dealing with, I paused for just a few minutes to check out one of the football game that was playing yesterday – Indianapolis vs Houston The head coach of Indianapolis has had leukemia and for the past three-months had been under going…

Wishes for the New Year
Dear Friends, As we count down the hours of the old year and celebrate the stroke of the new, I have a few wishes for us all: May the trials and tribulations that we experienced fade from our minds and be replaced by memories of the best that we experienced. May those we have lost be fondly remembered for their love of…

Big day a week from tomorrow (Jan 7th)
I'll be getting my second set of CT scans post treatment (total of 12 TX with 5FU and Oxy + 10 TX of Avastin). My first results (after 5 TX with 5FU AND OXY + 3 TX with Avastin) were good with no growth in any tumors and 40+% reduction in a couple of tumors. I have been feeling VERY good since the last CT scans, and have…

8 Years, so far so good...
Hi all, I have not been on this board for some time and most will not know me so here's a brief history: diagnosed with stage 2a colon cancer 12/2004 and underwent a laporoscopic right hemicolectomy. Opted not to do the chemo due to the lack of evidence of benefit for stage 2 at the time (although would have done the chemo…

Did you know Hemerrhoids has two rr's and not two mm's and now that we've broken the ice on this lov
I love telling the world I have hemerrhoids since I've had my kids. And better is having to say that the radiation obliterated them and now I can't sit or go to the bathroom without cringing. Does anyone have any solution to healing this situation faster? We're already tried lidocaine, Hydrocortisone suppositories,…

Protein in Kidney on Avastin
Being on Avastin they always check my urine for protein in kidney. It's always been negative but this time it was 1% which the nurse said was no big deal. My urine is a weird amber color. Has anyone else had this? Will drinking a lot of water help with this or does it get worse the longer I stay on Avastin. Can it be…

Word Of Warning
This is something I was told by a Walgreens pharmacist tonight when I went to pick up an antibiotic for my hubby. I was discussing his recent reaction to the CT contrast dye, and she asked me if he was on Metformin. He is not, but I know that some cancer patients have recently started taking Metformin. She said that there…

Treated like diabetes?
My CEA doubled to 30.6. Doctor says we are limited in treatment because platelets are low and he does not see them coming back up. Said he doesn't think we can get this into remission. He said that these days colorectal cancer can be treated like diabetes but that he cannot promise I will get that either. What exactly does…

"You don't have to do that."
Recently a friend of mine sent me a pair of those colorful, wooly socks that are so popular these days. She said that she was going to send me a pair every month. My first thought was to tell her "you don't have to do that" then it occured to me that maybe she did. She lives in New Jersey and all she can really do is sit…

Did your Onc. mention diet?
The anecdotal info. I have is that most Dr's do not give diet/lifestyle advice to cancer patients, in fact some will even say 'eat what you want', personally I believe better to be happy and have a cookie than be miserable eating brown rice crackers. This paper shows diet can change gene expression;…

neutrophils and platlets
I am pleased to report, that my Husbands bloods have come back to pre chemo levels. He was able to have his treatment this time, only missed one, however they dropped the Oxaliplatin by 35% and rehydrated him on disconnect day. It seems to have done the trick as he is starting to get his determination back (with a little…

Oh what a night!
Well, my Christmas Eve was nice up until the part where my sister had to take me to the ER. I'd been out of breath and had a bad pain in the upper part of my right chest.
