That was quick... Glad to be home...
Home from the hospital today about 4:00pm. Had my takedown surgery around 8:00am yesterday. Doc said everything went great and things are working as they should already. I'm pretty sore but overall feel pretty good. Very strange though, they left a nickle sized hole in my side where the stoma was. They didn't close it up.…

Is anyone considering treatment for sleep apnea in light of the research?
During my first colonoscopy and the colon resection I had afterward I was told that I had sleep apnea that put me in respiratory distress while under anesthesia and that I should have it treated as soon as I recovered from cancer. This was also mentioned a year later when I had a liver resection to remove mets from liver.…

Do Lung nodules hurt?
I know that I have two small lung mets on the surface of my lower left lung. I can feel discomfort from them. Is this possible or is it all in my head? If I can "feel" this then I imagine the surgery will be painful.

So, it returns
Hi, haven't been on in a while. Last night we found out that my husband's cancer has returned. This time there are 4 spots on one lung and 2 spots on the other lung. The Onc has changed him over to Camptosar and Erbitux every week for 3 months. She seems optimistic that is going to help. But you know, we were just starting…

Surprise Visits
Reading the posts on this discussion board I know that I am not alone in this experience. I know there are many others, older & younger, who are experiencing the same thing I am. I realize that there are those who have been dealing with this disease for many years and those who are new to it. And this is an outlet for me…

Need WBC count advise.
My husband ended his 5FU 6 months ago. He had issues with a drop in his WBC counts. He took Neupogen for the last two months of treatments. The Neupogen substantially raised his counts over 15. Had one of his first blood tests today and his WBC count was only 2.7. Has anyone else experienced this low of counts 6 months…

A friend of mine has
A friend of mine has a thyroid disorder and rectal cancer. Okay it's me. Anyway, I just read that I should not be drinking almond milk or eating brocolli sprouts because it will cause my thyroid to swell. Better call my endocronologist and I'm making the nutritionist a sooner than later appointment. So for four days I've…

Reflecting while recovering from surgery
So, here I am at home, recovering from resection surgery... I thought I'd google and find some inspirational quotes to reflect on... And then I thought I would share them for all who may be interested... Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant - Robert Louis Stevenson. I have found that if…

Vultures on the fence
I've been fighting for two years now and the tumors in my liver are now at the smallest they've been since my dx. But still, in the past few months I've been getting people asking me if I'd leave them certain things when I die. At first I'd laugh and say "let's talk about it after that happens" but frankly it's starting to…

Beach Glass
The Pacific Ocean. There is no other place quite like it. When I was in treatment, I spent as many days as I could at the coast, absorbing the tangy salt smell, the cries of the gulls, the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore. It filled me with a sense of peaceful energy, enough to give me the strength to return to…

Having to curb my sense of humor.
I tend to deal with life's dilemmas through humor. Called this my new facebook. My sister didn't see the humor. I'm usually the one who makes lots of corny jokes. I try to keep them tasteful. After spending the week hearing how everyone's father, brother, cousin, father's friend's uncle's cousin's grandfather died, I am…

Dad newly diagnosed-lots of questions- and I tend to get long-winded
Hello all. I hope it is ok for me to post as I am not a cancer survivor. My dad went into the hospital about 4 weeks ago for bleeding. During a colonoscopy, they found a mass said it was probably not cancerous. Then the Dr. tells us it was cancer, but that he got it all. At his follow-up appointment with the surgeon, the…

Surgery video
I am having my liver surgery at a teaching/research hospital. I was asked if I would agree to having a video done of my surgery and medical students allowed to observe. I was fine with this, but my husband feels uncomfortable about it. Any thoughts from any of you about this? thanks for any responses...

Oncologist's Opinion....
Met with my Onc yesterday and this is what he came up with. I just had a PET/CT done at a different facility and read by a different set of doctors. I do that so I get different eyes on different tests. More than 1 opinion is important to me. The Rad Onc at St. Louis Univ read the scan and said I had a recurrence with 4…

Brocolli Sprouts.
Are they really all they're cracked up to be? So as I mentioned I haven't slept in 3 days and so as not to wake up my family, I've been taking random midnight/1 AM walks. Well to my surprise day one, one of my neighbors was out speedwalking at 12:30 in the morning. Who does that? My neighbor apparently. Oh yeah and me. So…

Liver Biopsy
Last week, I had an MRI of my liver to address elevated LFTs and CEA. MRI revealed a small spot and now onc and GI want a liver biopsy. Could someone tell me what that is like? I am in the "thinking about it" mode and know I must move forward. I am stage II, almost 3 years out. There is nothing like info from people who…
