New Trial in the Works
Hi everyone, thank you for your support about my tumor growth and end of trial. I met with my Chiropractor and of course he is happy I am off meds as he believes there are other ways to heal. So I just got home from his office and had a call from UCSF to sched. an appt. with a new Dr. about another trial. It was 18 hours…

Maintenance Chemo
Anyone have any feedback on Xeloda or Avastin at low dosage for long term maintenance? Locally, onc's are mixed. Some feel it's reasonable, others feel Chemo should be held in reserve. My wife is Stage IV NED, been through FOLFOX, then FOLFIRI/AVASTIN. Tolerated both fairly well (worked throughout). Thanks in advance!…

"Oncxiety", now good news
Yesterday I posted that I was feeling "oncxiety" as I was meeting with my onc this morning. I had a really good meeting with her. First of all, my tumour was tested for the KRAS mutation, + I am a "WILD " thing, so I will be able to go on erubitux at some point if need be. I was very relieved, because @ my last appointment…

Got those Scan Results
Well, I went to SF today for my scan results. I guess I should have guessed at how the day would go. Traffic was bad and it took 4 hours to get there. At the lab, my normally grouchy tech was on vacation and the nice smiling man who was subbing couldn't get a draw... Then the next lady wanted to put the iv in my hand, but…

Painful liver mass
I have been treating for metastatic colorectal cancer for 3 years. 6 months ago I was told that the Folfiri I was on was effective in treating the 2 liver mets that I had and my liver was then clean. My recent CT scan earlier this month shows a new and large mass in the right lobe of my liver that has been causing alot of…

Chemo after surgery with no visual cancer cells present?
Friday they removed my recurring colon cancer from my ovary via hysterectomy and next they want to repeat chemo treatments similar to the treatment I just got over last Nov. Just isn't making sense to me. Why would I want to do the same chemo when it didn't kill the cancer that was obviously in my ovary the first time? It…

Way worse than I thought
I've been way too busy getting through life, getting prepared for chemo again, new port, lung puncture, thyroid troubles and appointments... life has been crazy. So I hadn't done much research about my current situation yet. Another colon cancer patient sent me a link to a procedure that can be done for paraaortic lymph…

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to give a last minute reminder that if you are in or near Rhode Island, there is a three hour seminar on "Cutting Edge Liver Tumor Treatments." I'm a' leaving on a jet plane.....Update....HOME!
Tomorrow morning, 6am sharp, the car comes to take us to Amsterdam, then flying to LA. We are leaving behind many friends and wonderful places...and the cows, of course!!! See you in the States! We arrived safely, and everything is fine in California...even my 'outside' orchid survived! Our flight was an hour late out of…

FOLFIRI w/Avastin
I don't want to jinx myself, but so far FOLFIRI and Avastin are a picnic for me compared to FOLFOX. This is still no fun, and I'm quite miserable, but in comparison, I don't wish I were dead today, like I did my first round of FOLFOX! I had a little gurgling and loose stool day of infusion, but no real diarrhea. Since then…

“The Cure vs Extensions of Life” - Just Sundance Pondering...
It’s been awhile since I wound up and had something to say about much since surgery and now with the treatments beginning – sort of sapped my inspiration. But my mind has been busy writing this post a thousand times. Having my 3rd recurrence this time around has gotten me to thinking a lot about my own mortality. Prior to…

No Periods but Blood tests say No Menopause Either
I haven't had chemo since April and no sign of a period. Not that I particularly want them back but I just thought the tests would show menopause. I was also having hot flashes until my liver resection. Any ideas? Catherine

Supplements/Vitamins
I was wondering what vitamins/supplements people were taking. I read the book "Beating Cancer with Nutrition" and it mentions so many different vitamins that our body needs that help prevent cancer, but it is overwhelming. My doc said take a multivitamin and b-complex, but not folic acid. All multivitamins that I looked at…

Carpel Tunnel
I found out I have carpel tunnel on my hands which probably got worse with the chemo and neuropathy on my feet due to the chemo. I've had this pain for about a year now. FYI: If you have carpel tunnel on your fingers, wrist or your shoulder hurts, it is better to not use the thumb and fore finger because there are nerves…

rising CEA whilst having chemo
I have just finished my 12 cycles of chemo. Is it normal for my CEA count to go up? I didn't have a test prior to having cancer cut out (stage 3 and in 1 lymph node). After operation it was less than 0.5. Around cycle 6 it was 1.7 and today it was 2.8. My doctor has said not to worry. Should I worry. He has said to leave…

today's homily is from John23
Hey folks. I just have to share this story with you. I hope you find it funny. On Saturday night I made dinner for Kim and me for the first time since surgery in April. (baked, fresh caught trout - roasted potatoes -salad) It took me forever to get it all ready, and it was about 8:30 before we started eating. I have an…

Scans today
I've been experiencing some "discomfort". Nothing serious, but it's enough to make me think hard about my scans today. One year ago tomorrow was my surgery. Getting results one year later is ironic, and playing with my head.

Need fluid suggestions for hydration
Currently my husband is struggling with hydration. He has a ileostomy bag and is on chemo treatment (oxiplatin & Xeloda). He is drinking Gatorade and water. But, of course, it just runs real quick through his body to his bag. He is also eating quite a bit of soup. Are there some fluids better than others to help with this?…
