My other daughter Kristy and I went and enjoyed the Christmas spirit. And the fireworks. And the snow. (Hey, for we in Southern California, even FAKE snow is a big deal!!!!).…

Question about CEA levels -
For the life of me (pardon the pun) I can't get a read on what a low CEA level is and what is a high one. Mine have stayed steady at 0.5 - which seems low right?? Is there some chart I can see??? I know the CEA is not a definite but I want to understand it better - Thanks!

update
So my mom learned that there is something in the thyroid, but we don't know what it is yet and she is scheduled for a biopsy on xmas eve. She really didn't get any news that she didn't already know. Her doctor was awesome. She feels really comfortable with him and he is delicately agressive. I think she is in good hands…

Rambling Commentary
Hi Everyone, I spent many years doing the "Bah, Humbug" thing at Christmas. The main reasons for this were that I was poor & couldn't get the stuff I wanted to for my family & friends, and also that I was alone for many Yuletides. Well, I'm still not wealthy in material things, but I am very happy to see another Christmas…

THE TALK
I had my ONC do a letter for me to give to SSA and I got that letter today. In it he gives me 20 months to live. Happen to have a doctor appointment today and she comfirmed what the latter said you might say. She told me to get things in order, to mend things with people if I needed to, and to try and enjoy every day I…

Need some support
Hello, I'm new to this forum so I'll explain my case and look forward to some needed support from fellow friends. I just turned 35 and was diagnosed and treated for colorectal cancer just over 5 years ago. It is about 4 yr and 3 months since my surgery (illiostomy) and I'm still clean (THANK GOD!). I have CAT scans about…

Thinking and waiting
Hi there, Went for the CT Scan today and now will wait a couple weeks to see the onc with the results. While waiting for the scan I started runinating about this sore knee that I developed a week and a half ago. I had been working out at the gym and had put some stress on the knee joint so it was a bit sore. The next day I…

Once a year osteoporosis treatment and semi-colons
I'm a semi-colon who was diagnosed with stage 1 cc in March 2006. After my resection, I started taking Actonel, which is a once a week osteoporosis pill, along with daily calcium and vitamin D. Since I have been having some occasional severe bone pain, I requested info about the once a year IV treatment for osteoporosis,…

Hope but still frustrated!!
Well, the swelling in my dad's abdomen went down after starting a new medicine (fluid pills). In 10 days, he lost 15 pounds of fluid. He is 6 feet 2 inches and now weights 165. This is why I am concerned. The oncologist is not concerned about his weight loss. He lost 20 pounds in 4 months. He has had fluid in his abdomen…

Oxaliplatin
To all who have Oxaliplatin as part of your chemotherapy. I am looking for suggestions as to how better to administer. I currently get this drug every 3-weeks via IV. During the infusion, the arm where the IV is begins to get an intense prickly/tingly feeling and some stiffness and soreness. The Oncology nurse has tried…

Questions concerning scheduling after completion of treatment
Hello everyone. Haven't been here for awhile. Stage 3 colon cancer, 1 positive node aout of 18. Just completed my 12 rounds of Oxal. 5fu and Leucovorin. Will have a CT scan with bloodwork on Jan. 8th and also see my onc for first follow-up. He then said that I will continue that same routine every six months thereafter for…

Going for CT Scan
Hey gang, I am going for a CT Scan and bloodwork on Wednesday for follow up. Getting the willies again but not tooo badly. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me and say a little prayer while you are at it. If can get passed this checkup I won't have to see the onc for 6 months. Here's hoping. I won't hear anything for…

Funk mood post treatment
Hi all, Haven't touched base in quite a while. My 2 year mark from stage III rectal cancer was in September. I had my port removed last Monday. Everything cancer related is going well, but I have been in the most foul depressed mood for a long time. I was so positive during treatment, but 2008 has sucked emotionally. I…

Neuropathy tip
I went to the spa yesterday and had a facial and a hot stone pedicure. It was my totally decadent day, and I LOVED it. I have gold toenails! Anyway, the point of the post is that the girl doing the pedicure was chatting about those pedicure flipflops that have divisions between each toe. She says they're super comfortable…

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Have been out of work since 1 Oct 08 and still looking for full-time work. I am waiting tables until I can find something full-time. I never knew all the work associated with waiting tables and the hourly rate if $2.13 per hour. I call it cheap labor. Anyways, just wanted to ask my family here to say a prayer for my son.…

Say a little prayer
I don't post often, but I'm here every day. This group has been a great source since I was dx'd in Oct. 2007. Recap: dx'd Stage iv cc Oct 2007. 2 surgeries and 6 mos of FOLFOX which ended in June 2008. I have been NED since Feb. 2008. Huge blessing! For the background, I was in school finishing my master's to be a CPA when…

Saw my doctor
Just wanted to let y'all know that I saw my family doctor today. He feels comfortable about my chest pains I had on Monday not being related to a heart attack. Since I've had continuing pain since my colon resection, he believes it is spasms in the lower intestine. That in turn can cause esophogeal spasms that mimic heart…
