My dad-inlaw (Stage IV) has colon cancer which has spread to his lungs. Just now he noticed that he's fingers look dark. Yes, its dark like he had touched black ink or black dye but he didn't touch any of those. He can't wash it off either. Is it side effect of Xeloda - 3000mg daily, taking them for 3 weeks already. No…

Visited the surgeon today...
... and came away with a gaping open wound packed with gauze. Yippy!! You mean all that complaining I did over the weekend to the on-call surgery team was justified? Would have been nice when I was telling them of the swelling, the redness, the night fevers, the leakage, etc., that they would have told me to come on in.…

Surgery on August 1
My husband is scheduled for a colon resection with ileostomy on August 1. That will be the end of the 6-week period post chemo/radiation period. The doc seems concerned whether they will be successful in getting all the cancer but said he will do his best for him. They are going to increase his morphine this evening and…

What to do on the down days?
I hate to be a whiner, but I am sick of feeling yucky! And I haven't even begun chemo (if I decide to do that)! I've had fevers the last two nights, complete with fantastic night sweats, and no fever by morning. I'm wondering: urinary tract infection? I also had a little leaking of blood and clear fluid from my incision…

My mom's colonoscopy...
Wow! Did I get a lesson in reality. And how much mine has changed! My mom had her colonoscopy on Thursday (of course, she was telling people she was having a colostomy...sigh...) and I was her caregiver. Man! What a ride! I forgot all the stuff when you are an observer...and my mom's came out fine. One polyp. But she kept…

How fast can colon cancer return?
I was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in April of 2004. I had surgery and then 6 months of chemo. Since then every 3 months I have gone for my check up. The last one was in March 2006 and I was told that I was in "complete remission" and would have to go back in 6 months instead of 3. A few weeks ago I started not…

Caregiver Concerns
As a caregiver, I would like to hear from someone else that perhaps has gone through some of the battles I'm experiencing. Maybe I'm just having pity parties but even so, I would think others have done the same, surely I'm not alone in this fight within. 1) Has anyone ever wondered where your TRUE friends are? As faithful…
