Also, about a month ago, One of my cousins (who is 2 years younger than me) was diagnosed with BC. She was told she needed a mastectomy, and she…

Anyone been severely neutropenic?
Hi all. It's Jackie. I'd like to thank all of you who responded to my little outburst of despair. Your encouragement meant more to me than you'll ever know. Family and friends can sympathasize, but they'll never truly know the suffering, fear, and frustration that goes with this disease. On the flip side, they'll also…

I was diagnosed with breast cancer three days before my 39th birthday. If that's not bad (sad) enough, I have two kids - one of which is 9 mos old. My family and friends have been very supportive, yet there are times when I feel alone. As far as I'm concerned, unless you have been through this, you have no conception of…

Miserable on chemo--just want to quit!
Hi everyone. It's Jackie. I haven't checked in for a while, but I really need some wisdom/empathy. I finished my 4 courses of Adriamycin/Cytoxan. Last week I got the 1st of 4 courses of Taxotere. I was told this would probably be easier on me. Wrong! The first 2 days were better, but then it hit! I have been in "total body…

Elective mastectomy
Since having a modified radical mastectomy of my left breast in September 1999 I have had a couple of 'scares' relating to my right breast; first, cysts, then "calcifications". I was planning to have reconstructive surgery (TRAM flap) early next year and am now considering having my right breast removed as well. I have…

Estrogen receptive and HER2 positive
I have learned that my cancer, now in recurrence, is strongly estrogen receptive, and has tested medium positive for HER2. Does anyone else have this combination? My oncologist has only treated 6 women with Herceptin for HER2, and none who have both characteristics. He plans to treat me with a new estrogen blocking drug…
