Update on my friend
Thanks for all your support on my posting for my friend. The latest update is that she had the surgery (day surgery) last week to remove the tumor. It turns out that the surgeon was not able to remove it all. He told her that a resection would not have helped so she doesn't need a colostomy. She will have radiation and…

Morning all, My lips feel like they are on fire, and the inside of my mouth is so sore and raw that even jello hurts right now. Any recipes for a magic mouthwash out there? Thanks, oh, and someone asked that I update my "About Me" page. Will do as soon as possible.

Pet Scan Denied by Ins
How hard should I fight my insurance company to get a pet scan? I have Tri-Care (military retiree) I had one in early '08 but it has been denied two years in a row now. My oncologist has decided that since he can't get the level of care out of my insurance provider then he's not going to be able to follow me anymore. I had…

Morning all - weird question
So, I'm talking to an ER nurse last night who is a good friend. She tells me that she's hearing good things about using a homeopathic remedy for radiation burns. I'm the skeptical sort, so I thought I'd bring it up here, where the knowledge is first hand, not second or third hand. The thereapy is the ingestion of an herb…

New to the board
Hi all, Brand new to the board today. I'm a 56 year old male diagnosed with anal cancer on January 22nd - about a month ago. Of course, like several of you, especially if there are other men (meaning obstinate, stubborn, know it all individuals) out there, you had if for months before finally figuring out that this was not…

Hi Everyone!!! You guys bring tears to my eyes. To come home and have messages from people that I have not even met, but understand so fully what I'm going through is one of the most AMAZING things I have experienced. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your thoughts and prayers! I came home Saturday exactly 4 days after my surgery,…

New warrior - scared
I am so glad to have found this board. I have just had my first exam and consultation with the Cancer centre team for squamous cell cancer in anus and vulva. I'll be starting radiation therapy in 2-3 weeks (five days a week for 6-7 weeks they say). Meanwhle having tests for other underlying health issues (lungs and liver)…

Can you bleed 10 years after having a hysterctomy
Just wondering if anyone else had this happen. I had surgery to open up my vagina at the end of December 09, healing very nicely. I am using estrogean cream and gel on my dilator. I have been using this since the middle of Jan. It is not a constant bleed just every once in a while. I just found another hemi, wondering is…

Radiation Side Effects
I am so relieved to have found this discussion group. So far I am an anal cancer survivor. Was diagnosed in July 2009 - then had surgery, chemo and radiation. I finished radiation in October 2009. I am having a problem with my hips not being limber at all. I have reduced flexibility and range of movement I used to be able…

Our Stories
Thank you JDuke for starting this new discussion board. I've gravitated to CSN periodically during my treatment but found Anal Cancer discussions going on all over the place under CRC and "Other Rare Cancers". So I've spent time on another site. Good to be back. I thought it might be nice to start a topic where we can all…

Liver Resection scrapped!
Looks like I am not a candidate for the liver resection. New scans show the damn tumor decided to take up residence right up on the top of the main ventricle and then wrap itself around it for good measure. The surgeon says the surgery would be too risky and no chance of clear margins if they did try. At least the…

FINALLY.....a section on anal cancer!!!!
WOW.....people I can relate to!!!!!! I was diagnosed with anal cancer in April of 08 at 49 years of age. NEVER even heard of it before...oh except Farah, and she never returned my calls!!! I was on 5FU chemo and 6 1/2 weeks of radiation. Stage 1, and all was good. All the docs, etc., said it was gone. But WOW what a…
