THE ONCOLOGIST SAYS NO MORE CHEMO
Hi All The dilemma is increasing and the oncologist from Stanford has refused chemo for my sister, 33, with EC stage four. Now we really do not know where to go from here...whether to take a second opinion, what shall we do? She was ready to give chemo ten days back and today even when her vitals were matching the…

What a mess!!
My husband went for his 3 month CT scan Friday. He's a three year survivor of squamous ec. He gets a call that the CT revealed a hole in the esophagus and a blood clot in the vein of the liver. Of course that means driving to the U of Chicago again in rush hour traffice which is horrendous. He gets there, no bed so it's…

Don Reed has passed
Judy Reed asked me to let everyone know that Don passed peacefully away at 8:45 tonight, with Judy and Caitlin holding his hands and his cute little dog Peanut lying by his bed. I had the honor of meeting Don last week, and he was quite a guy. He was dying and he of course knew it, he was on powerful pain meds and was…

Just wanted to share with all of you: Dear Judy, Thank you for replying with the additional information and request to reinstate William and Loretta Marshall to the CSN Esophageal Cancer discussion boards. I'm very sorry for the unpleasantness this…

Sad to find myself here
Last week we found out the cause of my mothers swallowing problems is because of a tumor in her esophagus. She has had trouble swallowing for months and finally after much debate and practically forcing and a stay at the hospital mom finally got herself to a doctor. They did xrays and saw that there was a blockage in her…

geocam70--Welcome from Sandy thread
It was great Sandy noticed a newbie: geocam70 and welcomed him. Sounds like he is doing great. That's one important task William and Loretta made sure to happen. They would catch a new member whose information was in another thread. I've seen Bailey, Paul61, Sandy and so many others notice these people. This is so…

Jr is still with us!! UPDATE
July my brother was given one month to live, and here it is going on two months!! The doctors tell him to continue with whatever he is doing. He is no longer on chemo only his pain meds. He has the g-tube and putting that tea through that. My mom said he was playing 500 rummy with her and his wife all day Sunday! He is…

Welcome
geocam70--George, I saw your post under MasterP. I want to welcome you to our family, if this is your first time posting. It was great you were diagnosed at and early stage. Even though the surgery is the same, chemo and radiation can really be rough. The earlier a diagnoses, the better the survival rate. It's good to hear…

Dumping
Hi board, My husband had an esophajectomy last September so he is 1 year past surgery now. In the beggining he had some difficulty with food and lost about twenty pounds. He didn't really have problems with dumping because he stayed away from dairy and sugars. He would have cramping but never complained of diarhea. Over…

ptom -- How ARE you doing?
When you first posted, I must have overlooked or it did not appear until later that your form of EC was the squamous cell form. From what I have read, if I am recalling correctly, this type of EC is on the rise here in North America, that it used to be or still is the more prevalent form in Asian countries. Again, I may be…

My tumor has all but disappeard and I am feeling pretty well again finally. This Tuesday, Dr. Orringer will perform my THE surgery. I see you all again in a few weeks (hopefully the CSN…

Don is resting peacefully
Just hopped on to give you all an update on Don. Don continues to rest peacefully at home. Yesterday his medicine was slightly changed to give him more rest and less agitation. There are absolutely no bowel sounds at all, but the kidneys did start working again. This probably is good because at least he won't have any pain…

dysfunction and ingratiation
I just posted a response to a call to "Share what CSN means to me" on a thread started by skiffin16. Look in the head and neck forum under "What CSN means to me" and my post is called "blatant ingratiation". I think you will find it interesting!

Surgery seemed to go well, now a leak.
My husband had an MIE on August 31st. Everything went great, he had a couple rough days about day 3 and 4, but since then is doing great. The swallow test was done on Thursday and there is a "very small leak". The doctor doesn't seem too concerned, in fact they plan to release him either tomorrow or Monday. He will come…

curious about attitudes to medicare
being from a place where full cancer treatment is made available to all regardless of means, I was shocked to read some posts on this site where some elements of cancer treatment could not be 'afforded'. Is it fair to assume that all those posting on sites like this would be in favour of universal medical care? I'm curious…

CAREGIVER'S DILEMMA- TO CRY OR NOT TO CRY?
Hey My sister 33 years old has been diagnosed of stage four EC two months back. Since then we have been struggling to get her the right care. And in the process when the doctors tell her upfront that she has a few months it becomes difficult to keep her spirits up. She has a two year old son and she starts crying saying…

Antidepressant
Anybody using them? Went to my primary dr last week complaining of sore throat etc. Expressed how I was hoping it wasn't the cancer coming back. His response was " you need antidepressant because you are obsessive about this returning" REALLY.? Ya think? I was pretty ticked for at the time. But now I'm wondering if maybe…

Protest, move or put up with it?
Many of you are far more articulate than me in your open letters and tributes, but i need to say something. I am a newbie and was halfway through reading a massive post from William about my dads fight against ec and his post was deleted before I read all the links. I am furious. I am angry my dad has a cancer that is…

An open letter to the Cancer Survivors Network
"proselytize |ˈpräsələˌtīz| verb [ with obj. ] convert or attempt to convert (someone) from one religion, belief, or opinion to another:" [Definition from dictionary] As I understand, CSN has removed a member of this discussion group for proselytizing. I have reviewed your policy regarding religious postings. The two…

CSN Email
Wow, I just checked my email, and all my messages from William are gone. And that's a darn shame, because as we all know he furnished so many of us with such great information. Now I wish I had saved some of them, but didn't ever think it would be an issue. I have a feeling that all of what CSN has done is *technically*…

I've been lurking for 6 months...
I've been reading this forum since mid-March when my husband of nearly 30 years was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer, with mets to his liver and lung. I buried him a week ago. I often thought I'd post and introduce myself when things slowed down a bit, but they never did. Despite that, I was so grateful to have…

Dear CSN Site Moderator or whatever you are. RE: William and Loretta Marshall
Listen here Mr or Missus Moderator or whatever you call yourself. What an absolute atrocity you have just comitted in removing William and Loretta. You cannot be serious? You have absolutely NO idea of how much help, comfort and support William and Loretta have been for hundreds of Esophageal Cancer warriors, survivors,…
