Susie's Hero & Trooper-Brendon
I had the honor and privilege of meeting Brendon and Susie and Brendon’s parents at Presby. As the Lord would have it, Brendon was placed in a room directly across from ours. I got to hug Brendon for real and his parents and Susie too-who will be a lifelong friend/sister of mine. It is with a heart wrenching regret that I…

Surgery this Week
Good Evening - Tonight is the first time I'm posting to this board, even though I have been reading it since my father has been diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer. Luckily it was caught at Stage I, and he was able to go get a second opinion from Dr. Luketich. He visited Pittsburgh last week, and already has his surgery…

My hero - Brendon
Please pray for a miracle. Brendon has been in the hospital since Thursday. The doctor told us today that they don't see him making it out of the hospital and gave him a month to live. I need my hero in my life.

STAGE 3 TREATMENT CHOICES
Hi Folks my Ammunition for Big Cannons thread aimed at stage 4s has crossed over into the stage 3 community and since it has become such a long thread I thought I would separate out the postings most relevant to stage 3'ers to make it easier to follow for those with an interest in that stage. Main post from Megmacd with…

To all the special "Dads" that have left us
I just wanted to remember all the "special dads" who have passed away on this site from this ugly cancer. I still read daily although I do not post very often these days. Tommorow, being "father's day" once again, without our Eddie, is especially a hard day coming up. We used to make it a very special day and this year is…

Requesting a Corporate Prayer 4 Susie & Brendon
Brendon was rushed to the hospital last night with what they thought was possibly a heart attack. It turns out that it is a blood clot on his lung that they are treating. He is stable but needs the road opened. Please pray that the Lord remove the hurdles in his treatment path, so that he can make his way towards a total…

Thayer family I met at Shadyside
Dearest Thayers, I know you have been on this site before researching options for EC. I met you at Shadyside, (Husband and 2 daughters) and your wife/mom was in Presby at the same time my husband was. You have been on my mind and I should have gotten your phone number before I left. Please respond to me if you read this-I…

New and confused
My husband and I are brand new to your site. But we have been reading much of your postings. We need help. My husband had an esophagectomy 7 weeks ago. He had many setbacks and was in the hospital 35 days (stage 2 cancer, I think). He is eating some food by mouth, but is having a terrible time with swallowing liquids. He…

Question for anyone having rad to spine
Steve is presently having rad treatments to spine. Scheduled for four treatments. Three done and one to go. The pain seems to be getting worse. Doc says a small percentage of patients have increased pain for a short time, then pain decreases. Just wondering if anyone had experienced this? Thanks for your info. Nancy

A future option that's cooking;something to watch for
I suppose I'm done researching EC surgeries for now. I understand how my husband contracted post-op pnemonia and subsequent respiratory failure. Previously, MIE EC patients had an NG tube in place for nearly 5 days. They removed my husband's NG tube a little early and the juncture where the stomach meets the small…

Good Report on EC via CT Scan
I am fairly new to this board but not to EC. I want to first say that you all have helped me a great deal reading all of your trials and the good things that do at times occur. I have just returned from a long day at UVA and have mostly good news. I have 4 in a row clean CTscans. NO disease progression found and the three…

First Time Posting and CEA Markers
As you can see I joined this family awhile ago. In February of 2010 my dad was first diagnosed with Stage IVB esophageal cancer, mets to the liver and other areas, but this is my first post. I keep up to date with everyone on here and even though you haven't known it I have been keeping all of you in my thoughts and…

Post-Sx symptoms
My fiancé is 40 years old and was diagnosed with an adenocarcinoma 1 year ago this July. Today he is 3 wks out post sx MIE. He is having a weird gurgling sound and a lot of pain still. The soft food diet is a challenge, it's hard to know how much to eat and how often to eat it, without causing a lot of pain. Lots of new…

question regarding time
Hi, I'm also on the colon cancer board because my aunt has colon cancer. My question concerns esophageal cancer, because my cousin has stage 3 esophageal cancer. Do Dr.s give you a "time frame"? With my aunt they told her 6 months if she does NO treatment but she has stage 4 colon cancer, her son has stage 3 esophageal. He…

Local Relay for Life
Jim and I walked the "Survivor Walk" at our local Relay for Life last Friday night. The local paper took photos of us and told a little about us on the front page of the paper. Thought you might like to see it. It was especially emotional for Jim only five months out from the surgery. It was especially wonderful seeing so…

Back pain after surgery + pain meds
Hello everyone, It's been 4 weeks since Tom's surgery, and all in all I would say he is doing ok. He got all the tubes removed and is able to eat very small meals. I am, however, concerned about two things: his back pain and his dependence on pain meds. 1. Back pain He has been having this back pain since surgery. I do not…

Esophagus closing up again?
A little background; my father was diagnosed with lung cancer in May of 2010 which had spread to his esophagus. He had radiation on his tumor roughly 2 months ago (luckily around this time he also had a feeding tube put in since the tumor basically closed his esophagus completely where he couldn't even swallow water).…

My beloved Jim has passed on
Hi, I don’t post a lot, but read the site daily. My dear husband passed away June 3 from esophageal/stomach cancer at the age of 59. I don’t want to take away any hope from those battling this disease, but thought Jim’s story might help others. He was diagnosed February 2010 with gastric cancer. The mass was at the…

My dad's service
Hi, I wanted to share this with those friends who were unable to attend dad's funeral in New Orleans today. It was a sunny and beautiful day. We sent dad off with full military honors, military pall bearers, taps and a 21 gun salute, with a jazz band processional. It was a wonderful day and service. I will miss him very…

What Ammunition for The Big Cannon?
Hi All, I am still preoccupied with what constitutes a “big cannon” and thought that I would compare 2 stage 4s, Lu’s early treatment with my brother Peter’s. (hope you don't mind Lu!) These are shown in summary below ( I hope I got Lu’s right) and show the very different approaches adopted. Lu had 28 days radiation at…

UPMC is the best of the best!
I have to share our experience at UPMC Presby. This hospital and its staff all the way from the housing and insurance people to the surgeons and nurses were excellent! Been a While

I came home on April 18, returned to work full time May 2nd. Got PET scan results last week and all is clear, no hot spots at this time. Started Carboplatin/Taxol…
