Anyone with UPSC 1A have chemo but NOT radiation? Or only external radiation?
I'm coming up to a crossroads and wanted to hear from my UPSC sisters. I was diagnosed IA in October after a robotic hysterectomy. Had de-bulking/staging surgery in November - 22 lymph nodes, omentum, tubes, ovaries, cervix, vaginal cuff, washings all were negative. Yeeeha! One gyn/onc told me I'd need nothing but…

Hi all, My mom is 73, with stage 4B UC. She's had a full hysterectomy, then five sessions of Taxol/Carboplatin, and now because they've full a 4c mass in her abdomen area near her omentum, they are recommending more chemo. No surgery or radiation is recommended. The good news is that her CA125 decreased from 95 to 32 with…

With medicare eligibility coming in July, I would like your guidance on which plans are best for cancer patients. It gets expensive when procedure co-pays are $200 like my present BC/BS plan. I'm interested in your feedback. Thank you in advance. Mary Ann

PET Scan results - Several nodes lit up again!
Nurse called with results. My first thought was, "Super. She's calling with good news!" NOT. I have 3 pelvic nodes and one post ascending aortic node that lit up. Plan: get the pelvic nodes biopsied Feb 3. using CT imaging. I've heard this procedure is not painful. If positive, this will be my 2nd recurrence of UPSC. I…

Need some suggestions
Ok. Back in August, September and October I have had some bouts of back stomach pain (I believe it was 5 times). The first two times, I vomited afterwards and then felt better. The other three times I just had the pains. At first I thought I had food poisoning, but then it happened 4 more times. I thought too that it could…

Everyone has a suggestion to cure cancer.
Everyone I know has a suggestion to cure my cancer. The newest one is to go to a holistic health place in Austin, TX. Has anyone heard of this place? Optimum Health Institute of Austin. They also have another one in California. Here is the web site. http://www.optimumhealth.org/locations/ohi-austin.htm The classes are for…

Will start third round of chemo
Went to the doctor today and he recommends that I start chemo again. My CA 125 is 2700, the highest it has ever been. My CAT scan showed 5 enlarged lymph nodes, three in the neck area and 2 in the abdomen. So I will start chemo February 9th. It will be Taxol and Cisplatin every three weeks. Since both drugs need to be…

Port troubles
Well, I am currently on my seventh day in the hospital. My port became infected and caused a blood clot in my neck. The infection also went to my blood. I am hoping to go home today after heparin and antibiotics. I also had the port removed. Now I will be on fragmin shots, which I give myself. I also have to get a pick…

Insurance problems - AGAIN!!
It's deja vu time for me. I switched from Aetna to BC/BS a year ago. I had already battled Aetna and we had a "truce". I anticipated problems when next PET/CT was ordered - and that time is today!! I'm scheduled for scan tomorrow but insurance is balking at approving. This type of thing infuriates me. I have a huge copay…

Has anyone here had to have the daily injections of the drug Leukine, to boost WBC levels, prior to me starting chemo my white cell was 3.1 so to say I differently needed this drug, but the side effects are terrible, fatigue, loss of appetite, low grade fever, just to say a few, but it did bring my levels back to normal,…

Overall Survival Research
I have been doing some reading on Uterine CA and in particular, recurrences. There does not seem to be much research available regarding radiation / chemotherapy vs no treatment. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can find information that would shoe comparisons of patients who did nothing vs patients who proceeded…

DOES CHEMO DESTROY OUR TEETH?
Saw dentist two months before start of sandwich treatment but not since. It's been about a year and know I should go in for cleaning and checkup. But am afraid to face likely need for major work as a result of chemo; have heard that chemo can wreak havoc on our mouths. Can any of you report what kind of dental problems you…

I'm soooo friggin' PO'd!
Just another example of why you need to be your own advocate. Standard treatment protocol for MMMT is usually 3 rounds of chemo, radiation, then 3 more rounds of chemo. I finished the first half of the chemo and all the radiation and was "recovering" for the last few weeks. I met with my oncologist for the first time since…

Endometrial Cancer??? (uterine lining is 31mm/3.1cm)
I am 41 y/o and have one dtr. I recently had a TVUS that showed my lining to be 31mm thick. I am scared that I might have endometrial cancer. I am scheduled for a hysteroscopy, d&c and will have my last remaining ovary removed [I had one removed in 2000 due to stage IIIc Ovarian cancer]. I am hoping the pathology report…

Stage 1 UPSC
Here's a good review of the literature discussing management and outcome of women with Stage 1 uterine papillary serous carcinoma. Remember that with the new FIGO system, surgically staged 1b has been collapsed into Stage 1a, which may make the findings of new studies seem worse than those reported prior to this change.…

I have a question,
What would you ladies say(or do) to doctors who DID NOT bother to stage my USPC because I had "too many" other morbities issues? I later found through digging through my medical records on line that I had 1a USPC. I had the radical hysterectomy with the five rounds of radiation and six rounds of Carbo/taxol. I was…

Insurance questions - anyone able to share their knowledge?
I never used to ask questions for fear of someone thinking I wasn't very smart. But now, after my cancer diagnosis... I've decided I'm always going to ask questions from now on and never assume I know the answer.. so here goes: My FMLA will be over at the end of February and my HR person (who is kind of a jerk) has…

If I have a recurrence within first year - will it continue to recur?
I appear to finally have an answer to the vaginal bleeding I have been experiencing for the past 7 or 8 months. Just 6 months after a TAH/BSO I started to spot/bleed and the oncologist has been unable to find what is causing the bleeding. Finally they have identified 2 masses at the vaginal cuff - believed to be a…

Amidst our panoply of serious concerns, let me lighten it up--our topics, not my hair)--with this question: Have any of you who was coloring your hair before chemo done serious research on whether there IS truly safe color? Before treatment, I wore my dark brown hair, nearly shoulder-length, pulled back most of the timel.…

Type II Diabetic - perspectives on artificial sweeteners affecting tumor growth?
I'm newly diagnosed and trying to read all the information I can on my cancer and wondered if there is any proof/study on artificial sweeteners and tumor growth. I know there are several now but I usually just try to only use items with splenda rather than aspartame and rarely use things with saccharin. Thanks, Julia

MMMT survivors
Dear June, Jan and the other ladies who have posted about MMMT (uterine carcinosarcoma) I had my third check up today and all was fine. A physical exam - outside and inside - of the pelvis. Asked about Ca125 but it is not thought to be useful (I had it tested during chemo and it was never more than 16). Next check up is…

Anyone Have Info./Experience With Regard to PR Receptors?
