How long will this new port be so sore and red and ugly?
I had my Power Port put in yesterday morning. It is really sore whenever I lift the smallest thing or even move my shoulder to do dishes, etc. It looks red and sore. I don't have a fever or anything. Do they ordinarily hurt quite a bit? For how long? I don't want to be a baby and be calling over there for nothing, and I…

OUCH! Injections for white cells count
I was prescribed 7 injections of Neupogen right after my 1st Chemo cycle was completed. A nurse mentioned that I might experience some bone pain. After the 4 injection, I started to feel pain in my bones throughout my body. This was nothing like arthritis! By my last injection I was in tears. A nurse suggested that I use…

(((((((Mary Ann))))))) A special hug as I feel my recurrance has taken you to a dark place.
I hear such discouragement in some of your posts since I recurred. I'm so sorry to have taken you to a darker place, even if it is just temporary and fleeting. I want to tell you that I allowed myself to believe that I had beaten this thing (for the most part anyway) and am so glad that I allowed myself that special joy…

Doin' the Dance!!!
My CT scan looked good!!! They are still following the 2 para aortic lymph nodes that were biopsied, but they are smaller again this CT than the one in September. My doctor said that cancer grows without treatment and these nodes are shrinking. I asked about the pap smear and he said that he quit doing them as a measure…

Why UPSC patients need to INSIST on tissues assays; (from my new recurrance perspective)
All this research recently posted plays into the research we did way way back into EGFR and how this factor GREATLY changes the prognosis of anyone with UPSC. And yet it is so hard to get the assays done! I pushed for it unsuccessfully after my initial diagnosis, but they just weren't doing that where I go. Now I see that…

Preserving Orginal Serous Cancer Speciman in Parafin
I called my pathologist that read my orginal report on my uterine cancer. He said they preserve it in parafin for quite some time and tests can be added at a later date. He was not sure what tests could be added. I am not familiar with the molecular testing or tissue assay they perform. But I know they are testing for…

Post treatment pap tests
Are any of you getting routine pap smears after the hysterectomy, chemo and radiation? My understanding is that the top of the vagina is a common site for reoccurance. Wouldn't that make it important to do pap smears to that area to check for changes in that tissue? Are any of your doctors recommending pap smears? I am…

For Linda
Dear Linda, I try to be tactful, but when I am worried about someone I get a little bolder. I am worried about you. You said you are going back on taxol. My gyn Onc said she would use topocatan (I do not have the spelling, I am sure we can find it online) if I relapsed within eight months. I am not sure that is given with…

We're such girls
I was lying in bed all snuggled up nice and warm, letting the days events wander around in my mind when I happened to think about us, and I started to laugh. Here we all are facing this uncertain life and possible death, and even then what do we do? We try to protect everyone from any pain, though it costs us dearly. It's…

The Importance of Menitoning that you've had a recurrence on this network.
A December update: Everyone, I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, no one does. However, I do feel it's very important to mention a recurrence. What I'm thinking is this. If everyone just hangs around til things go wrong, and then just quietly slips out of the picture, then we all have false hope that we'll be fine if…

cancer has spread to the liver
I have been a lurker on the boards since January when I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. After the Hysterectomy the pathology revealed that the cancer had spread to a pelvic lymph node. So I was to get radiation - but before I started the radiation oncologist had me get a PET scan (which insurance has since denied)…

Again, can't recommend highly enough Dr. Boik's book, Natural Compounds in Cancer Therapy. Free onli
He explains how cancer gets started, foods that can act on and defeat it and how to incorporate the proper foods with chemo and/or radiation for the best possible results. Aside from the last two months, an anti-cancer nutritional approach has been my only treatment. I don't know if it will be enough, but I do know that my…

My recurrance is offical. I start back on chemo Monday. :(
Well, ladies, this isn't the news I wanted to be posting. I remember how I felt when Fran's cancer recurred. I sincerely felt so very very bad for her, and at the same time, I felt that shiver of knowing "if it could happen to her; it could happen to me." I'm so so sorry for sending that shiver up each of you. Please try…
