Number 5. Always thought 4 was my lucky number
Yup. I'm on my 3rd recurrence of Hurthle Cell cancer, surgery number 5 coming on May 4th. Long story short, diagnosed with HCC Dec. 2003. TT Feb. 2004, followed by RAI. Subsequent check ups for three years, fine and dandy. 2007 scan showed a recurrence. Had another dose of RAI, but it didn't work. A year later had surgery…

Upcoming Scan
I am starting my LID diet on Monday and my scan starts the week of May 9th. I haven't been told by my Dr. of any precautions I should take if any after being given the RAI pill. I will take the pill that the nurse will be double gloved handing it to me with tongs after taking it out of a steel container, the day before my…

Esophagus Pressure
This is a feeling that someone is pressing down on my throat and choking me. I can eat, swallow, and drink but it feels like the esophagus is somewhat constricted. It started well before I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and continued on for about 10 months after I had a thyroidectomy in Feb. 2010. It finally went away,…

Thyroid Meds & Weight Gain
I'm sure this is a pretty common problem but I'd like to hear others stories. Last Thursday (the 21st) I started on my Levothyroxine and have since gained 8 pounds in 6 days! Now I know it can take time for the body to adjust but to gain a pound or 2 everyday is not something I am willing to be patient with. I lost 90…

rapid heartbeat
Recently I have been having a rapid and irregular heartbeat accompanied with severe dizziness. My neck has hurt since my surgery April 6th. Has anyone had these symptoms? This has sent me to the emergency room twice, once in an ambulance.

Newbie Apologises in Advance
Hello to all, A quick intro - I'm the child of someone recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer and I am struggling (as is my mom) to come to grips with things and I am still at the stage of feeling overwhelmed by not only the diagnosis, but the disease and treatment options. So my apologies for any dumb questions and my…

Update
TT - check. LID - check. Thyrogen Shots - check. RA131 - check. WBS - Check. As of today, we are on the the downhill slide and I am trying my darndest to stay upbeat and positive. The only thing annoying throughout this process has bee and still is, this lump or knot that will not go away in my throat. Any sneeze, cough or…

having trouble getting in
I had my second thyroidectomy April 6 and my doc did not suggest seeing an Endo until after the surgery. Now I am having trouble getting in to see one before the end of June. Maybe it's just me but I would think it is important to get the RAI done before that. Am I being paranoid or should I be pushing the issue?

LID diet
I am starting the diet next week and my company is taking us to lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is anything at all I can eat there and what the max iodine limit per day is? They can't understand why I can't just eat a salad and bring my own home made dressing.... Thanks Lynne

Afraid of RAI
Yep, me again *waves*. Please bear with me as I'm kind of using this as a place to get my anxieties out in a supportive environment. So my second surgery is over and the dr tells me there was no evidence of malignancy in the right lobe which is great. i'm waiting to hear from the Nuclear Medicine people to have the RAI,…

Where are all the Follicular Thyroid cancer survivors??
I'm sure you're out there! I've been reading lots of older threads and have even done a search and it seems the majority of survivors here have the Papillary variant of Thyroid cancer (correct me if I'm wrong). I'd really like to hear some personal accounts of FTC.

I wonder if my thyroid nodules are from cat scans and should I take it out now?
I had renal cell clear cell cancer 3 years ago. Now I need a complete thyroidectomy. The nodules are so large and growing into my throat. Drs. Did fine needle biopsy, and it doesn't show cancer, but they can't guarantee it doesn't! I wonder if the cat scans I have had for the kidney, gave me this large goiter. Do I wait…

Confused and Scared
Hello, This is my first post and I am hoping some of you have some information or thoughts to help me. I am 30 years old, and recently underwent a right thyroidectomy to remove a lesion. We did the removal since the FNA came back indeterminate. After the surgery the biopsy again came back as indeterminate, right now we are…

Upcoming RAI but still can't swallow pills
I am supposed to do my RAI on April 18th but I can only swallow small pills still. I still have issues with my throat like still not having a voice and can only swallow sips of liquid at a time, not enough to swallow a large pill. I tried today a 1/2 a large pill and I spit it out and start choking. I don't think that…

Confusing Situation
So I had melanoma last year and it was successfully removed last April. In July I began to rapidly lose weight and then I lost my voice. I had ultrasounds of my thyroid area due to having a "full" neck. The ultrasound showed nine enlarged nodules. Next they did an FNA that came back negative. We also did a thyroid function…

thyroglobulin antibodies high
Hi! I am new here. I had a TT on April 15,2009 due to papillary ca. They also removed 11 lyph nodes, where 9 were positive. I had the RAI in June followed by a WBS which was negative. I had a follow up scan in December the same year and everything was still negative. I never got copies of my bloodwork but doctor said…

Anyone else have fibrosis in lungs from RAI? Breathing is very difficult especially with any activity. Need 3-4 litters of O2 when just sitting. If up and moving need 4+. Looking for any suggestions on improving breathing. Doctors have on 80mg of steroids. No luck yet. .
