Just looking for advice...
I am four days out from chemo and feel horrible. How do you ladies cope? I don't want to eat or drink. I feel so sick. The time drags. I just want to sleep it off but only do that in spurts. Thankfully I slept well last night so I didn't have to be awake those long, lonely hours. I have so much to be happy about but right…

"The Cancer Ward" recommended reading
The Cancer Ward is a semi-autobiographical novel by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, first published in 1967, and banned in the Soviet Union in 1968. The novel tells the story of a small group of terminal patients in the hospital "cancer Wing # 13" in 1955 in the post-Stalinist Soviet Union. This is not an easy beach read by any…

Hi loves, a quick note to let you all know about the annual OVCA walk/run. There are so few of these as compared with ones held for breast cancer, etc. and this one happens to be in my home town! ca125 up again!!
I was shattered to hear this week that my CA125 has jumped another 102 points to 525 (my 6th consecutive rise!). I am continuing on with Topotecan but my Oncologist wants to add Avastin so that is planned for tomorrow. Has anyone else had this combination? Another complication - this week at chemo discovered my portocath…

VEGF Inhibitor
Avastin works as a VEGF inhibitor. Elevated VEGF results in angiogenesis, excessive production of new blood vessels, allowing new blood vessels to develop and feed a tumor. A tumor cannot grow larger than 2 mm, without a blood supply. This research indicates that Grape Seed Extract is also a VEGF inhibitor:…

I have chemo
at eleven today. I haven't recouped from the last one on May 29th. I still feel tired and when I try to do anything I have hot flashes or cold sweats. My blood work from yesterday improved but some of the red blood counts are still low and one white blood count is at the minimum. I didn't hear from the doctor so I guess I…

Pets
I have been having a conversation with Iceman about our similar-looking pets, and I thought it might be a nice, lighthearted topic for the rest of the board. Tell us about your pet! This is my Hugh Jackman. He came to live with us the day I learned I had cancer. Didn't need a dog; wasn't looking for a dog; can't say I…

Neuropathy
How bad is your neuropathy and how do you handle it? I quit IP chemo after four and a half rounds because of neuropathy in my hands and feet. My oncologist was afraid it would become permanent if I continued. He was convinced I had enough, scans are 100 percent clear and my ca125 is 6. But the oncologist/gynecologist who…

The beast is back!
Was six months into my second remission. (CA 125 in May was 16.) Had a great weekend and golfed 36 holes and took a trip to go to a funeral. Had a good dinner Monday night and got up nauseated on Tuesday. Off to ER and the CT showed partial bowel blockage and the yucky NG was placed. My CA was 83! Was given the choice of…

maintenance chemo?
Just when I thought it was over my oncologist is encouraging me to join a clinical trial for a maintenance dose of taxol for one year. There goes my hair again! I would get low dose IV taxol once a month, or a new and improved taxol with fewer side effects, or nothing as the control group. Has anyone heard of this or is on…

Here we go again. Low platelets delays Doxil treatment.....again
Platets were only 69 for scheduled doxil treatment. He said we'd check it every week and "wait it out" as we did last time. He had reduced the dosage by 20% last time. He said that this is not at all unusual with as much chemo as I've had over the past nearly two years. He said he would reduce the the dosage more next…
