I'm fine
I was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma in 1999. I was so scared. I spent so much time on line, there was so much doom and gloom it actually messed with my mind more than the cancer itself. I had my left kidney removed. Stage 2 grade 3. Fast forward 15 years. I am healthy and sometimes think about how I wish I could have…

Husband's surgery yesterday
My husband's surgery went well - longer than expected due to scar tissue, but successful. I'm not sure if I've mentioned before that my cancer surgery was the same date as his 6 years ago (colorectal cancer). What an anniversay to have to share , but I'm doing fine now and praying that he does well after this also. They…

Good morning everyone. Sorry I have been MIA - dealing with some seasonal allergies and feeling under the weather. The good news is that my first 3 month scan was excellent - no signs of metastasis or recurrence. I have lost apprx. 25 lbs since my surgery in December and the scan said I no longer exhibit "diffuse fatty…

Anesthesia
I met with my anesthesiologist today. He asked if I would I would like epidural or a spinal anesthesia to control pain along with general anesthesia or general anesthesia alone. I asked him what he thought was best. He said he had reviewed my recent CT scans and would go with a spinal over an epidural (with general…

Need advice... Go back to work?
Hey, all, So the doctor was pretty weird regarding my return to work. Generally, with gallbladder surgery, they only tell you to take half a week to a week off of recovery. However, my surgery was open and I have a 7.5 inch incision across my right upper abdomen. Now, I DO feel better. The last couple days I've been able…

Bone Scan Question
I had a nuclear bone scan the other day, and thankfully the scan did not indicate any mets in my bones at all. One concern that was brought to my attention was the fact that my "good" kidney and my bladder were both lit up like a Christmas tree on the scan, as the radioactive material was being filtered out of my…

An Update Following My Adrenalectomy
Hi. Sorry I've been away without stopping by for a few weeks. I started back to work yesterday after 7 weeks of disability after my adrenalectomy. I can't recall if I checked in to say my adrenal tumor tested positive as RCC, but it did. I've just been trying not to make cancer the center of my life. I had a hard time…

Drug Holiday
Well thats what my oncologist called it. I immediately thought of Aldous Huxley and his Soma holidays, but no such luck. Stage 4, grade 4 RCC with mets in lung, I had my kidney out in 2013. Taking sutent. I itch all over, I have an all body rash, trouser-destroying diahrea (sp), loss of appetite, dry mouth and throat. The…

Scans
my husband's scans were finalized at 5 pm; the radiologist faxed them to us. Since I got rid of my Fax, they were faxed to Kinko's (now FedEx) and this crazed wife drove to get them. there is a definite met on the left 8th rib; this showed up on his bone scans in August and December but only began to hurt two weeks ago. It…

Open vs. Laparoscopic? NO CONTEST!!
Hey, guys, I'm a little over 2 weeks removed from the gallbladder surgery, which was switched to open after the surgeons couldn't get it out laparoscopically. I've seen some people wonder about the difference between the 2 styles and I guess I'm in a pretty good position to compare the two and give you some insight. This…

3 year scans.
Tomorrow my son has his three year scans. Dr. told him after this year chances go down. This is with a different dr. so we won't get the results the same day. Read so much about chromophobe being indolent but I know the chromophobe people on here with lots of trouble. Need prayers.

One Year Check Up Looming!
My one year check-up is coming up on Tuesday. Chest x-ray and kidney scan. I’m getting nervous so please wish me luck. Worst part is, usually I see my oncologist afterwards so we can discuss the results but this time I won’t see him until April 2. And MSK posts the results of the tests online so I can look forward to…

Anyone have RCC reappear in lungs?
Hi ... my husband of 25 years is now 49 and had a 10cm tumor (stage III) along with his left kidney removed 3 years ago. He then took part in a clinical trial where he took 2 pills a day for 12 months. The study based out of Loyola Hospital in Chicago will never tell if he was given a placebo or everolimus. We are 99% sure…

Action to Cure Kidney Cancer
I invite everyone to visit the website of an organization called Action to Cure Kidney Cancer-- ACKC. Just google the name and websites will come up. They are lobbying Congress for money to fund research to cure Kidney Cancer. They visited Washington DC this week on March 16 and 17th. I signed a letter to Congress they…

May I Join the Club?
Hi All, Until recently, this isn't a club I had ever considered joining, but a CT Scan for an unrelated reason resulted in a surprise admission ticket. Clear RCC, at 4cm just made it in as a Stage 1A, which is good. Not so good was that the location precluded a partial nephrectomy, so four weeks ago my left kidney came…

New cheap test for RCC?
Just found this while browsing... A urine sample in certainly a fast and inexpensive way to test! I am always looking for the breakthrough that will allow cancers to be detected early and prolong prognosis for all patients! I'm not sure if this is an old idea, but the article is new so enjoy!…

Need eGFR advice
I was diagnosed with ccRCC last year and had a partial neph last May. The tumor was less than 2cm and the surgeon told me that he only took about 10 percent of the kidney when he removed the tumor. I just got back the results of some bloodwork I had done and my eGFR went down sustantatially from prior tests (I get regular…

18 yr old son... softball sized cyst has a blood supply
Hello again. I posted a few weeks ago about my 18 yr old son. He went snow skiing and thought maybe he injured something when he fell so took him to the ER. MRI showed what looked to be a cyst with some calcification and filled with blood. Because it was filled with blood the MRI image couldn't reveal what exactly it was.…

Another NED for today
Hello everyone, my turn to share good news. My fiance had his 3 months follow up today. Ultrasound is clear, blood work is perfect except for slight liver enzymes elevation (due to hepatitis C). And last chest x-ray he had was about a month ago - he had pneumonia, but no mets :-) So far so good! Next check is in 6 months,…

CT Scan Showed Changes
Yesterday I went through CT Scan, CXR and cystoscopy. The CXR and cystoscopy looked fine, the CT scan, however, showed a lesion on my right kidney. This is the kidney that had the tumor 3 years ago in which the tumor plus 1/3 of the kidney was removed because of tumor location. Looking at the CT scan the right kidney…

First 6-month Follow-up <<<NED>>>
Hi, all, Just got back with my first follow-up with Dr. Lallas at Jefferson. It was a nice visit; he said everything looked great, no evidence of disease whatsoever and continued to spout that my chances of recurrence were "around 2%." Can't say anything bad about a visit like that. The plan is ultrasound, chest X-ray and…
